I gave in and went ahead and install VS and GC from Eric Tioh....big time....hit all 3 cars with FULL set of VS and GC. The city with existing brisk racing VS only get GC set.

Driving Civic these past few days. Acceleration SEEMS to improved. Engine noise and vibration SEEMS to reduced (it gets noiser with I used Petronas semi 5W30 on it instead of original Honda mineral). Would never use Syntium again.....bloody wrongly bought last time...thinking I'm buying W40 lube. Might be placebo effect but the smoothen acceleration and noise/vibration reduction seems obvious.

Have not tried my PE tho...do note my Cities are 7 years old and Civic 4 years definitely original GC degraded, so effect might be more obvious. Eric did mentioned PE stock ground is original much better the Hondas...surprisingly.

Only mentioned PE stock grounding is surprisingly stronger than Honda's stock probably based on experienced after installing on so many brands of cars. He does have a device that measures the flow current of cables.

Hike up the current flow of my City 3 year old photo-conductor cable from alt to battery from 7 to 16. Do get a bit worried initially if it might cause inbalance flow of the alternator original cable to ignition area as the direct to battery new cable gets a much higher ratio count from the alternator.

he actually got another idea on the alternator to battery direct link by the GC cable, but due to the diffculty to install and need to jack up the car and remove the bottom cover, he not doing this for customer.

IMO, the filter might be able to last but it might be pushing the boundary of the filters.....a risk Im not going to take. Pushing the boundary does not concern most car manufacturers at this point as popular demand is more important. The filter can still take it but might not work efficiently at the end of that life span. Same with lube, I believe most FS can go 10K and above, but efficiency near the end of the life span might be 50% and below....maybe.

well, it do depends on individuals. If people can afford, they will surely service as often as they can. but then, some people have different thought even when I mentioned to them about the importance of servicing their car. there is this person that told me that, the amount he saved from dragging the service interval to the max of the lube can do and the labor charge can let him to do a rebuild so why care so much about spending the amount. I sweat.gif when I listen to what he said.
he even do the calculation for me. as long as you don't drag fully EO more than 10k, the damage may just be minimal. of coz, it will be not as clean as you service at a higher interval. however, the damage may only come to be obvious when reached more than 100k km. the first 100k km definitely won't see any damage.
mileage = 100k km. service every 10k = 10 service. use fully every service is approx Rm250. x10 =Rm2500
the same amount of mileage service every 5k = 20 service. Rm250 x20 = Rm5000.
He mentioned that, for EO service alone the extra Rm2500 is not worth for him. He might just spend the money to do engine cleaning or overhaul which there is still balance left.

for me, this type of issue is quite subjective. as we know from previous post, gearbox is having even much more wear than engine but people rather shorten their service interval for EO rather than shorten it for the ATF. For me, if I am not mistaken, the cost of changing a gearbox is not cheaper than changing an engine.

my dad is one of those typical people that doesn't like to follow the service interval. so my persona is never to be handled by him.
however, when I wanted to say that his dragging of service is damaging the car, I can't tell him that. My dad volvo is already 15 years old and the engine when revving to red line is even smoother than new persona. make me feel like throwing my car away. but then, the real damage is at the gearbox. the gear change is no longer smooth and have jerk. To me, this is a very good example of showing what happens to a car when you drag your oil change of EO and ATF.
from my real life example, damage is highly done to the gearbox. therefore, I would suggest to spend the money on the ATF instead.

did you charge the VS before plug in?
as mentioned in saga thread, if you have the VS to be charged by stable current before installing, the effect will be very significant.

Thats what the photo-conductor cable do....alternator direct link to battery. Yes, need to jack up car.

Now the probable (he not sure able City, but sure abt gaga and myvi), the photo-conductor cable actually provides more negative than good after installation of his gc cabling.

The original cable from alternator goes first to ignition then to battery (at least thats my understanding from what he said). The PC cable bypass this and direct the alternator current straight to battery thus power charging the battery. The battery current also flow back to ignition (I can't remember)....however PC cable pulled way stronger current from the alternator due to the high quality cabling.

The original ones that goes to ignition (actually more important), got less of it. Whatever alternator produced, PC cable will get way higher split ratio than the original (as it split the current with higher ratio on its side), thus ignition might get less current. The flow back from battery might be stronger than the current coming into engine direct from alternator.....somehow that produced underpower effect on his gaga and myvi test kuah...

He not sure abt City effect on this issue tho....but that makes me feel not so nice abt my PC cable now. Without GC, PC cable has immediate power affect but with good gc setup, PC cable might be render less effective...possibly negative as current flow from both side to ignition might not be balance. It boost up the PC cable from low 7 reading to high 16 now...if alternator produce 70amp and split between all usage....not sure how it works now.

Err....my City CVTF change is at 40K mileage. I change it every 20K. Gearbox got no stock cooler, lube there get wear down faster actually. So I usually cut down ATF change by half the service interval.

As for engine cleaning vs maintenance cost.....he forgot......once damage is done, its done. No matter how you repair it, it will never perform as good as before. My idea is keep damage away....performance never goes down at any time.

His way have to utilized underperforming engine for years (gradually goes down much faster than maint..perfect car) then overhaul. Get power back but never as good as before coz miniscule damage to engine already there...he do have to suffer underperforming engine all this while all the way to overhaul.

My way is to maintain PEAK performance all the way with no down time (sure get sick one day, but till that day comes, peak performance lor...).

So is it worth RM2500 for underpowered engine for the last 5 years of the 10 years life or spend RM2500 and get that 10 years of peak performance. I choose the latter coz I really really enjoy driving...
