Hi,

Are there a lot of people using smart tags nowadays? From what I have observed, usually the toll lanes for Smart Tags are lease congested.

Personally, I prefer using it as it saves me time. However I find it troublesome to remove and hide it every time I leave my car. Have anyone tried concealing their smart tags where they can just leave it there (with access to Touch 'n Go - to reload) unless we are using Quik2Go.

u can DIY it to fix in your car by put the sensor on top of the dashboard and hide the card reader below the dashboard, all u need is wiring and some DIY skill

You mean the Smart Tag can be dismantled?

SmartTag works on IR (infra-red), means needs line of sight.
The best position for best signal strength is in the middle (rear view mirror) and as front as possible (dashboard)

Safest is still to hide it, and hence, I think the best is still to dismantle and re-wire it.
Keep the tag in glovebox. Do another power rewire from Cigarette lighter, but make sure your cigarette lighter is those type that will switch off when you off ignition. Otherwise, drain battery.

Also, you need to reduce the voltage from 12-14V to 8-9V range.

Test it on the left-most SmartTag lane, where you can always reverse into T&G lanes or manual pay.
Also, test only on non-peak hours so that a long queue won't suddenly build up behind you.
*
Thanks for the valuable advice. Will update here as soon as I attempt.

Dismantling Smart Tag

I have managed to dismantle the Smart Tag without issue.

There are basically 2 screws. The 1st one is located on the left side just below the "Smart Tag" logo. There is a plastic cover that covers the hole of the screw. The second one is inside the battery compartment.

The screws however are not "-" or "+". It is a type of six lobe screw. The casing can be dismantle without any problem as soon the screws are removed.

Now I am exploring my Kenari to know which would be the best position to place the board. Would I be able to install it under the dash board and connect the sensor on top of the dash board? Any ideas where can I get the add on sensor and what type of sensor is that? Can normal RFID sensor work or there is a special type?

I have thought of concealing under my sun visor. Not sure if the tint on the top part of my front screen will cause any issue though.

Found a website where the author shares his guide, but he is based in the U.S. and not driving a kenari, LOL.

Nice job dude! thumbup.gif I was thinking of doing this - just couldn't get a used SmartTag at a good price yet tongue.gif
Anyway, just a thought - why not tap the 12v line in your car to power the circuit? You'll need to bring 12v to 9v to power the circuit but in the end, you'll end up with a SmartTag with no battery brows.gif

Keep it up dude... and keep us posted smile.gif

Yeah, will do that eventually. Hate to change the battery. But I have to find a way to expose the access of inserting Touch 'n Go. I don't think drivers in the US have a separate card for their credit and that is why they can conceal it fully, unless I apply for a Zing Card?

I think creating an insertion port is better than Zing card - they charge a certain fee for every auto-reload. A few RM IINM. Not worth it if you as me - but that's just me. Maybe some people find it worth their convenience...

I share the same opinion. Will see what I can do.

I mean why you need to dismantling it and conceal it to a way no one can see at outside and need to see feng shui where it can detected when passing the Smart tag. I know the reasons but it is quite hassle or ma fan on my side. Why don't put to the in arm rest or glove compartment or the side compartment at your door? And take it out when you pass the smart tag.

Even i saw few cars just stick to windscreen without care of the world. I know previously a lot of people steal smart tag, but now is like majority have smart tag till sometimes i prefer go cash lane or touch n go due to line dam long. They even have RM90 promotion during every Raya.
*
The reason I am doing this is as you know. I find it less hassle in the long run.

Stealing smart tag is not a bit issue, the issue is stealing a smart tag with a few hundred credits and worse if your windows are broken into.

Haha, it might be, but my sole purpose is for convenient and yet safe.

If only smart tag is not targeted, I would have leave it on the holder 24/7.

Looks like the sensor is souldered onto the chip?. If that is the case might as well just wrap the PCB with some phone/camera cover & stick it onto the windscreen. Nobody will know it's a smart tag.
*
They might not realise what it is for sometime, but will soon find out. Am thinking for a permanent solution.

You stick it at the back of the rear view mirror wrapped in same color black & leave the sensor open unlikely anyone will spot it unless they go point blank and see.
*
That's what I am thinking as well, not sure how the tinting of the top part of the mirror will affect. If possible, I will probably just attach it with the original casing given there is enough space.

But the real idea is to extend the sensor to the top of the dash board while I can just place the original module the glove box - gives easy access to crediting the card and looks neat!

I think the 6 items "LED lookalike" are the transmitters.

Do you think I can desolder them and extend with a smaller PCB board. It will then be wired through?

Do you think it can work?

*Edited:

Should be circuit board rather than PCB Board.

Have not. As I might be purchasing a new vehicle, I am thinking to unsolder this current smart tag when I received a free new smart tag. LOL.

Did this middle last year. Tried numerous way to powered by car power, but somehow can't detect when passing the toll, probably the grounding running on the car chassis somehow interfere with the signal.

Wouldn't it be noticeable from the driver and passenger window?
