QUOTE(idoblu @ Jul 21 2013, 08:14 AM) QUOTE(annienee @ Jul 21 2013, 12:04 PM) Hi guys! I came across Nex-3N and I find it a great camera from my first impression to it! I'm never a Sony camera user and I need some advise from the existing users here. Dim lighting n portrait, easier to get a lens with F1.8. NEX Kit lens.. so so only, may push it abit to ISO1600, or use a slower shutter speed aided by putting both elbows on the table prevent your camera from camera shake.I am someone who likes to take photos of food and portraits. Essentially, I never like using flash. However, many restaurants are currently always in dimmed lightings and I am very concern if this camera can take a good picture despite it being in low light condition. Also, I've heard that Sony's camera photos format are in RAW and requires a software to convert it to JPEG. Is it still the case currently? Appreciate if you guys could give me a good advice on this!! NEX's E-mount has choices of 50mm 1.8, Zeiss 24mm 1.8, Zeiss Touit 32 f1.8 or 35mm 1.8. I use the 50mm for portraits and cosplay photography. Not the case.. you can choose to have RAW only, JPG only, or both RAW + JPG. This post has been edited by nlik: Jul 22 2013, 12:32 AM |

QUOTE(gsJackMin @ Jul 19 2013, 03:12 AM) Search for Dicapac, available from shashinki website.. should be less than RM500, made in Korea. Otherwise , get the Olympus TG-2, or cybershot TX series which is about 1k each. Less heartpain if it ever screws up and drowns. I myself use TG-2 and i had it strapped across my body when i swam in Port Dickson Triathlon in July, no problems. QUOTE(KaNGaRooBaby @ Jul 19 2013, 05:36 PM) hi there, i would like to know is the external flash for NEX 5R can be adjust? or it is fix? i mean adjusting it up and down? Try looking for SOny HVL-F20 if you want more bounce capability on the smart accessory terminal. The bundled 5R kit flash cannot adjust it's orientation. External flash can trigger via your own camera's flash actually.. if let's say you want to use a Sony HVL, or Nissin, YongNuo flash, set the mode on the external flash and then fire your camera flash. Both flash should go off. Old NEX-5 had pre-flash problem that can be solved using the SYK seagull adapter.QUOTE(KaNGaRooBaby @ Jul 19 2013, 09:56 PM) errr another question, i am torn between the gf6 and nex 5r, i've read quite a lot of review about the 16-50mm power zoom which serve as kit with nex 5r has horrible distortion and vignetting and the colour is not accurate too (blueish ) , is it really that bad? because i might be sticking to the kit lens for quite a long time. If RAW yes.. big distortion at 16mm and 16mm ++. JPG no worry, everything is corrected for you in camera. Color accuracy not to worry. depending on the scene in front, u should quickly tweak the White Balance Adjustment on the spot and take test shot. Probably takes less than 2 minutes to fire 3 test shots and get the WB right.also i dont like editing pic (heard that i can be fix with Adobe Lightroom) and i have no knowledge about adobe. |

QUOTE(ChinWY @ Jul 16 2013, 11:42 AM) Need to know your lens make and camera model if possible.. If it has separate aperture and focus ring, you are game! QUOTE(ibnazmi @ Jul 16 2013, 01:48 PM) The camera is canon eos 66, the lens kit is canon 35-80mm. I dont know the exact lens model, but i guess it is a standard kit came with the camera. What do you think? Do i need adapter? Yup, need adapter. Some Nikon lenses have manual aperture ring control, so you can adjust it with the adapter ... I think Canon's mostly don't have aperture ring, which means you have to set the aperture in your Canon body and then only plug it to the NEX adapter. when you want to change aparture, unplug from NEX adapter back to Canon body and change Aperture again. However, I think there is the more expensive speed booster adapter with electronic aperture control. I haven't searched for it so not sure the price and whether you can buy it retail here or not. By the way.. that 35-80 canon Mark II model, you may try removing the front element of the lens.. it becomes a crazy sharp macro lens haha... |

QUOTE(wengwei @ Jul 17 2013, 07:46 AM) NEX has a DSLR sized sensor inside but a kawaii body size, so it's just as good as the latest dslr's at your price point. Some photo shoots contest Winners and magazine published pics are from NEX, so don't worry. You should consider it! This post has been edited by nlik: Jul 22 2013, 12:19 AM |

QUOTE(redlyfs @ Jul 27 2013, 12:23 AM) How is getting a new body solving the requirement to shoot from afar? Not being insulting but trying to understand your logic QUOTE(awiekupo @ Jul 27 2013, 05:33 PM) thanks ChinWY. this is exactly what I'm looking for and your explanation really nails it. I guess sometimes going from 16mpx to 24 mpx gives you slightly more possibility for cropping, and getting out a decent 1/2 body portrait of the speaker on a rostrum. Crop should still look decent for facebook upload or 4R print. Or the new cam body has significant enhancements in sensor performance in low light. But still yea, a faster lens is the most straightforward way to go.just in case if anyone wondering, I am planning to use this lens to snap photo in a meeting room/workshop/function for my company where subject is mostly vvip or the presenter (during talk or Q&A session). since most of the time i am not allowed to go near them or being block by table or other participants, that is why I am looking for some kind of lens that could solve this issue. cheers! Maybe can consider the SEL 50 1.8 or the 18-200, if you are talking about e-mount. The SEL50 1.8 would be good if you are some distance from the speaker. But once you move into the meeting room, you will face difficulty in capturing the entire room in the frame and have to switch to kit or a wider zoom. if you take the 55-210, you will still have to swap it out when you get into workshop room, so perhaps the 18-200 would be the best compromise. OR.. wait till October ,November cause there's 'rumors that "Sony could launch the new e-mount 55-150mm f/2.8 G zoom lens in September" . In addition, you may consider a flash add on so that you can use lower ISO on the long zoom, to get a cleaner picture while cancelling out the dim orange/green lighting on the speaker's face. by the way, ANYONE GOING FOR THE FLASH WORKSHOP at the CURVE 3pm today???? I'll go cause I wanna learn more about it, so maybe can meet up. I covered my company's townhall meeting with the sel50 and 1650PZ on friday. Yes, slightly troublesome to switch lenses during the event; 50mm 1.8 when i capture the speaker and Emcee, switch again to 1650 while standing at the corner to capture the entire hall , switch to 50 when Q and A session comes up to get a good portrait of the persons asking the question. Switch back to 1650 when everyone is standing in a line to take the group photo. It's doable but of course not so convenient, sometimes i'd like to have a second NEX haha. QUOTE(poolcarpet @ Aug 3 2013, 12:36 AM) Dslr sensor will produce better quality photos compared to compact. If you're new and really just want to take some pretty good quality photos at a budget, consider the panasonic lumix dmc-lx7. I think it can go as close as 1cm for macro shots. Check out the reviews. For me, it's not that case. I bought an Olympus TG-2 even after having nex5 n nex6. More Important that the picture you compose tells a story, or invokes an emotion from the viewer, irregardless of what camera was used. But of course, once you step into dslr world, you may never want to go back to compact unless somehow portability and convenience is still more important to you I use the handphone cam where appropriate |

QUOTE(poolcarpet @ Aug 3 2013, 08:32 AM) this is still back to portability... i think there was a saying.. the best camera you have is the one in your hands. Right, portability Yup and the waterproof reliability. Yea, generally the bigger the sensor, a higher quality image is be expected but technology keeps changing the odds. That OM-D jpg results can beat some APS-C's! Also, New Panasonic GX-7 look to be upping the ante to APS-C's too.i understand what you are trying to say, what i mean is given the same scenario, mood, location, if you take a photo with hp, compact, and dslr - i’m pretty sure the dslr will capture the highest quality shot :-) The end results depends on which medium and size is being used, I've seen those huge billboards, department store wallpapers that are huge, single storey high, which probably requires high megapixel count to be that sharp n detailed. But of course maybe they stitched smaller megapixel images to form that one big picture.. who knows QUOTE(SubRoutine @ Aug 3 2013, 12:23 PM) Hi guys, i have some questions about sony NEX-5R. With the kit SEL1650 lens, is it any good for landscape photography? ic.. my simplistic mind says... just borrow his filter and ask for the settings, copy the same settings on 5R. Maybe Meng Keat can help on the filters and stacking of filters to get that. Also, i have a friend who uses a canon dslr with the square filter set. His long-exposure beach shots came up extremely saturated, sometimes alien-looking in color. How do i replicate this with the nex-5r? Not really sure on what to buy. Thanks in advance! Today @ CEX, met MengKeat and RX-78 . - For NEX, one stall selling casings RM50 for 2 items.. the casing looks like Gariz type. - Sigma selling 'Art' line 30mm 2.8 and 19mm 2.8 around RM650 - RM690 price. - Tamron 18-200 i think priced at RM24xx.. - There's a display that mounts and OM-D on a vibrating platform and u see the image shake on the big screen. When you 1/2 press the shutter.. my gawd |

Oh ya.... Guys... My NEX-6 built in flash short circuit. When I flip it out n flash, it spark with loud noise with bunga api effect. The plastic cover On the flash assembly also flew off.
Crazy... In front of cosplayers. Just this afternoon indoors at sg Wang. Happen with my eye On the viewfinder. Lucky it didn't explode or shock or shatter into my eye. I use Nex weekly for the past 10 months, only sometimes with flash.. But still.. Surprised. Really surprised. |

QUOTE(RX-78-2 @ Aug 10 2013, 04:29 PM) Bro, can give more details how this happened? Is it just flip out and fire the flash? Just press button to flip up flash n fire. No manual finger tilt/bounce.Any tilting when it happen? i just suspect the bending on the connection was short circuit, and when fire the flash it spark! Did u send to sony service center to check and claim warranty? I was triggering an external optical slave flash, but have done that many times before without any issues.actually fired several external flash shots before that occurred. Got event soon, so I can't send nex-6 to service center until end August. Who knows how long Sony would take to repair n return it to me. |
