Although Citizen makes some automatic movements, their main focus is on quartz Eco-Drive. (80% of their production in 2011)
today the competency is quartz and certainly Eco-Drive that even goes on their campanola line.
they do make alot of miyota movement for the used others, but quartz movement production is always that high even for ETA.
The purchase of Prothor Holding SA may change their direction for their campanola line.

swatch group will not touch a nomos.
U can get a private watchmaker to do it.
I own the below nomos and I wear it daily.
http://www.nomos-store.com/en/Watches/Ludw...ystal-back.html

JW watch in SG is a AD but u have to order them, I don't think they have it in stock.
else order on watchbuys.com if possible. I got mine there, had to order and wait for 2 mths iirc.

Only problem is, if it goes bonk, there will be no service agent in Bolehland. Since it is not swiss but Deutche, I am afraid there may not be skilled people to do the servicing here.

That is my caveat for this horologie piece de resistance.
U got to find a trusty watchmaker locally.
Its not a complex movement like EP, if there are no damages simple cleaning and oiling a trained watchmaker can do it.

even with JW watch, they are just trained watchmaker. I doubt they flew into german to get training to do it the official nomos way.
JW does all kinds of servicing, they do Rolex when they are not official Rolex service centre.

I've been looking around for some time, and finally decided on getting this watch. Any opinion on it and the acceptable price?

ML Les Classiques Phase de Lune, get from AD is very much controlled.
lowest online is this, try to get close to this number.
http://www.gemnation.com/watches/Maurice-L...-13E-21818.html

the les Classiique range is their entry level watches, expect undecorated movement (ML 154 base on ETA 7751)
http://www.chrono24.com/en/mauricelacroix/...cnum=3&tab=pics

can get a similar movement at lower price and better decorated.

No. Orient does make other calibers with single crown and quickset day and date.
I believe they still make these since they are still popular and in demand.
those royal orient and orient start don't have anything in their collection with day date I recall.
do U know which model has quick set day date?

yes the Hamilton Jazzmaster H38515555. in fact only under 3k.
unlike Epos no blue hands and no guilloche dial making the price much lower than Epos, then again according to watchtime rumor has it ETA sell movement outside swatch for 4X the price.

Any links to the auction sites? Prior to 2005, they were using ETA 7001 movements and were originally priced DM980 in 1991. Roughly RM 2K.
Their current in-house movements are actually based on ETA 7001 ebauches anyway. wink.gif Stowa makes something similar to the basic Nomos Tangente. So does Orient and Seiko with true in-house movements.  brows.gif

Looking at the modifications made, the addition of triovis fine adjustment regulator and taking into account of ETA restriction of ebauches, ultimately its the buyers' decision whether the current asking prices for new ones are worth it.
*
the current inhouse movement alpha is base on ETA 7001 design, alot of tear down on those pre-2005 alpha movement. ebauches is used when a maker buys parts from ETA and make them. Its much like Tag Heuer getting Seiko design making their Chrono.

there are little mention on their other movements, some forum says they just beautify alpha movement and change to 3/4 plate, forgetting that these mod are done too ie hacking (iirc original Peseux 7001 does not hack), Glashütte click, Trivois fine adjustment. others claim all these chances qualify its as a inhouse movement as there are little resemblance. Anyway, so how much by industrial standard to qualify inhouse?

Today, they make most of the movement inhouse only parts like rubies and balance springs are bought from suppliers. nomos didn't move to make their own movement because of ETA restriction on ebauches.

much like buying any watch, its always buyer decision if a watch is worth it. A tudor use unmod ETA prices are higher than many brands that do Mod their movement. LOL

Seagull also make inhouse movement for that matter.

If you ask me my budget. It would be best if its around 300-600 range. How's Bulova brand..? thanks in advance !

page 1 post 1 is always a good start, to learn the terms and what not.

Bulova - American brand most watches are quartz and they are reliable. Today they are under Citizen.
they mechanical today uses citizen movement

U mentioned invicta, sometime to read
http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/ori...rum/60077-2.htm
QUOTE
nvicta and the 'Far East'

Evidence suggests that Invicta watches are manufactured by subcontractors, a practice common in the industry. IWG's market share is big enough to allow them to competitively offer original designs rather than rebranded stock OEM catalogue items. And by having watches built to order in both Switzerland and China, Invicta are able to offer an enormous and constantly changing product range from budget quartz fashion watches to Swiss made certified chronometers. The Swiss models, like the company logo bearing the Swiss flag and 1837 date, are important for maintaining market awareness of the heritage of the name. However it is the Chinese-made watches that provide the bulk of IWG's watch production.

Miyota-powered mechanical watches were a staple part of the collection until recently, when Invicta switched to Seiko/TMI automatics. However any Invicta mechanical watch with more than basic function (apart from automatic chronographs) can be assumed to have a Chinese movement. Quartz powered Invictas have usually had ETA movements made either in Switzerland or Thailand, although increasingly Invicta have been favouring Ronda for special function quartz watches.

Invicta often brands non-Swiss, non-Japanese movements as Technica Swiss Ebauches, though the movements are Chinese in origin. It is helpful for enthusiasts to note that if their Invicta watch is marked 'Swiss Made' it is Swiss Made; if it is marked 'Swiss Movement' then the movement is Swiss and the rest is likely Chinese and assembled in China; and if any other usage of the word 'Swiss' is used (e.g. 'Technica Swiss Ebauches') then there is unlikely to be any significant Swiss content.

The quality of Chinese made, Chinese movement Invictas continues to improve. Currently, the most common source for Chinese movements in Invicta watches is Sea-Gull.
