is there such a thing called made in japan swiss watch?

there's booth near office that is selling Patek, Tag, omega etc at super low price. claiming that they are cheap coz they are made in japan.

too good to be true? hmm.gif
*
if its the real deal they would've been made in Swiss and nowhere else... don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantine

imho A.Lange & Sohne will be joining them(or kicking out Vacheron who everyone seems to have no love for these days) in the next 50 or so years...

Quartz watches due to their inexpensive mechanisms has becomes the world's most widely-used timekeeping technology, used in most clocks that you see in ppls living rooms, airports, malls, bedside alarms, appliances etc...

They tend to be robust, compact and in general, more accurate than even the best mechanical (what u called automatic) watches... The inexpensive Quartz is also typically much cheaper because it uses less moving parts and hence eliminates the need for long term maintenance...

Besides their relative strong points, watch aficionados have tend to frown upon any timepiece that is Quartz. Reason being that because they are so affordable they have become inexpensive and inevitably common.

The wealthy would rather spend thousands(hundreds of thousands and even millions) on a single timepiece from a reputable watch maker that has some horological significance and history. These pieces all tend to be mechanical, and many still have some form of old world methods in conception. For MOST of these fellas, telling the time accurately is the least concern, being more fascinated with intricate and complicated movements as well as the status symbols that these expensive timepieces have become.

err... i think that's it in a nutshell.

The term vintage is commonly misused.
Forget the 5513 and get a DSSD.  While I'm not a big Rolex fan, the manufacture and details built into the DSSD is the best for a dive watch from Rolex.  thumbup.gif

hi there catnip,

I have tried the entire of the latest range of Rolex Watches (except for the sky dweller and DJ which i don't care about) and i personally found the proportions DSDD too large for me...and this is coming from a Panerai owner... the escape valve and overtly protruding flat sapphire also just looks rather daft to me.. yes i know these are fundamental for the DSSD to reach teh great depths it is capable of, but the submariners are still my preferred of the Rolex diving range. Admittedly these preferences are mostly due to cosmetic reasons...I prefer the no dates because i prefer non cyclops magnifiers (yes i know the cyclops of the date-sub can be removed easily but i would never dare do that to any factory timepiece). My reasoning for choosing a vintage subbie is because i feel that the piece has evolved very little over the course of half a decade, hence it still looks relevant today. I personally love the challenge of looking for a full set, the tuna can bracelet that will still actually snap in place, decent condition hour and minute hands, etc... Vintage is new territory for me hence its i find it interesting, plus it would make a better story to tell my boys over our weekend piss ups smile.gif

ack! what a long reply for a sunday morning...
