AirAsia X, Airbus plan US$13b (RM42b) A330-900neo aircraft deal
AirAsia X Bhd has signed a memorandum of understand (MOU) with Airbus for the proposed acquisition of 50 units of the latter's A330-900neo aircraft. Delivery of the aircrafts to long-haul budget airline AirAsia X is scheduled to begin in 2018, according to a statement by aircraft manufacturer Airbus. "Reduced fuel consumption, extended long range capability and competitive acquisition costs will make the A330neo a true game changer and we are proud that AirAsia X will be among the first airlines to fly the aircraft,"said Airbus president and CEO Fabrice Brégier. The latest MOU from AirAsia X further consolidates the position of the AirAsia Group as one of Airbus's largest customers. Excluding aircrafts under the MOU, AirAsia has ordered 536 Airbus aircrafts. |

AirAsia X granted Indonesia’s air operator's certificate
AirAsia X Bhd, the long-haul low-cost arm of AirAsia Bhd, said its Indonesian unit has been granted an air operator's certificate (AOC) from Indonesia’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). An AOC allows an aircraft operator to use its aircraft for commercial air operations. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, AirAsia X said PT Indonesia AirAsia Extra (IAAX) had received the approval from DGCA for the AOC yesterday. “With this AOC, IAAX will now commence application for operating permits and slots to its intended international routes. “At present, IAAX has one Airbus A330-300 leased from Epic Leasing LLC, an intermediary between the company and IAAX. IAAX also aims to lease additional aircraft moving forward,” said AirAsia X. It added that the holding of AirAsia X in the share capital of IAAX will be 49%. "IAAX will also be the first long-haul low-cost carrier in Indonesia," it added. |
