WRT54G v3.1
BTW , you guys could overclock to 228Mhz [stock] without any problems* , assuming humidity is high , or you have some-sort of 'external fan' !

The power light would just blink blink blink and blink. You would brick your router , thats for sure

Here you go guys I have finally managed to add heatsink to my WRT54G. I would suggest people to buy a heatsink and install it. You should install it if you your load is high and consistent. Attached thumbnail(s)

240Mhz , well I could go up to 270Mhz. But I dont want to take the risk , I would need a fan to be installed on top of the heatsink and i would need to place few more heatsinks on the Wireless chip.

I heard there is a BitTorrent client for DD-WRT as well.....so if you have an external HDD aka a network drive , you could use it for your BT needs...

Thats the beauty of GS , it has 32MB of RAM , thus allowing you to use 16MB of VRAM for installing programs and stuff like that. You could even run a miniWebServer.

Wow yours is pretty old , go to www.dd-wrt.com and download the firmware there , download the SPv2 firmware. Remember to read the WiKi !

It depends on your usage. If you're a light user , then V5 would be okay , but if you're going to any serious 'job' such as IPV6 Tunnel or running your own miniWEbserver go with GL

Yes you could ! Linksys' firmware sucks , to be honest with you. It just 'sucks' , not ideal for 'torrent freaks' or someone wants his/her router to be the best router ever for 1/4 of the price !

Now you could ping , your router is alive , I think now you need to use tftp to flash the firmware

I just use XP's bulit-in firewall , of course I did shut the router's firewall off as it takes soo much of load and it hogs RAM plus it blocks IPV6 Connections. For me , I just use standard firewall , it does the job. even if someone managed to hack my connection , he/she would only see my router and not my computers...So I dont really care

thats good. Anyway , I had no choice but to void the warranty. I opened it up , ground the pin 16 [to recover the router back] , and installed a heatsink to keep the router cool !

you may want to do that , open up , shorten the pings , and then see if you could get replies..if so , quickly flash it to linksys' default firmware , and then you're set.....
Remember : Disable JFFS , if you're not using it. If you turn off the router when its booting , it would also cause it to brick as well

as I have said , Linksys WRT54G sucks when it comes to wireless. If possible , disable it , just disable it. Broadcom chipset has some problems transfering to other non-broadcom cards. Disable it , and use back your old router [if you have it]
It loves to drop the packets. Try tweaking the wireless settings. Play around with ACK Timing and stuff like that !

If you want to create a repeater , you better go with OpenWRT. or use WDS [it has some weaknesses]. I suggest you to go for OpenWRT for pure 1337.

1) How long does it take to RMA wrt54g?
Depends....
2) Lets say mine is v3.1..will i be given the current version (v5 ++) or still v3.1?
Always.......THe latest ones...They love that
3) Is there any other way for me to RMA without going thru the shop?
.....................Open up the router and RMA it yourself
4) Is there any surge protectors that can support telephone n LAN ports? My house have the tendency to blow anything when it comes to lightnings
no idea...
