I suggest you to read the 'How to set QoS' guide from http://www.solosoft.org

Two ways

If you know *nix/Linux , you can be a sifu...I mean play with iptables and do lots of stuff. Like manage bandwidth , drop packets , and even limit the packet [Thats the beauty of Linux]. Of course you can always use some 3rd party application to generate it for you.

Any PCI Card will do. But its best if you choose to go with SpeedBooster/AfterBurner-enabled card

If you want go for Linksys speedbooster series if you want to enjoy true broadcom to broadcom. As for me , I had to get D-link DWL-G520 Revision A4 as its an Airport compatible chip (aka it works under OSX).

Its opened when you want to run a server. A dedicated server that does hosting and stuff like that

If just for p2ping , its easier to port forward.

I have to say that it supports WRT54G v7 and WRT54G v8 (even with the cool looking graph). So its worth it. Plus there are tons of new features such as connection uptime

get the latest and you can block the whole site

There are few options , firstly you can QoS. Secondly you can edit the DNS to point out to the router. Thus you can have full control of which sites to block. You can even redirect the whole thing. For example , when he enters the website , it will be directed to localhost. It can be only bypassed by proxy. You can even block proxies with DD-WRT. So its quite secure

I am having that memory leak problem too. Currently I suggest you to keep v23. I think they are working on it currently

Or set the router to reset everyday

DO not oppen too many connections. The router will 'lag' , its not able to cop-up with 4096 connections. Try to set it to 2048 or higher. The RC-4 has few memory leaks..It might be the cause of your problem

I am using Tomato right now. I have to say its way better then DD-WRT. Before this I was using DD-WRT because I was using IPV6 .But now , I'm on Maxis (and no IPV6). So I switched firmware to Tomato. Pretty much Tomato firmware looks sleek and nice. No memory leaks

The beauty of this firmware lies with QoS. I mean it has a better packet controlling system then DD-WRT and it does not hog any memory. Its just lighter version. I'll post screenshots later for all !

I had that problem. What I did was , Clean Reset...I restarted the whole router and cleaned

It seems that upgrading/downgrading from DD-WRT has messed the router up. So I had no choice but to start from fresh. Now its working okay and my PCs can detect it

QUOTE(GreenJellyBean @ Dec 27 2007, 10:14 AM)
hard reset.. do you mean pressing the power button for > 5 second?

Will this go back to WRT54GS original firmware or go back to DD-WRT clean default state? I might need to download dd-wrt v23 sp2 first if it will revert back to buffalo's firmware.

Btw, just a quick check. I am using streamyx RM66 package (512k) so I set in my QoS default bandwidth to be 400 down and 200 up. Is that ok?

Okay , GreenJellyBean

You need to do hard reset. This is how it works

Firstly , press and hold the reset button for more then 5 seconds (you should see DMZ Light up or power LED blinking continuously , if you see this. You have restarted the modem successfully). Next up , you should flash back to the default firmware. Just go to upgrade and flash back to a linksys firmware (This step is optional). Then once you are in the linksys frimware , flash back to DD-WRT and it should be okay

The other option is to go with Tomato. Tomato offers a better QoS service and its not bloated as DD-WRT. I would suggest you to try tomato a shot.
