I tried without DD-WRT on WRT54GL last night, got 1 time disconnected under usage of BT, messanging, and gaming. But recover within 5 minutes.
Tonight want to flash to DD-WRT, kekeke. Cannot wait already.

Please correct me if I'm wrong
Mine is WRT54GL v1.1 firmware 4.30.7. I flash to v23SP2 generic mini, then flash again to v23SP2 generic standard?

Thanks.
*
yes.. flash to mini version.. then standard version.....

if you are not setting up wifi zone... mini version is sufficent for your usage... for your information....

Just run a bandwidth test at any bandwidth test site and the readings would be shown. As for P2P you can just leave the protocol as P2P as the router is able to determine P2P packets.

wao..!! the router can be that smart?

er out of topic...i just got my dd-wrt on my v5 without any problem but does tis mean i can use this v5 to connect with xlinkai??
and wat does this QoS thingy that u guys mention in last few post?

and y does my router always auto dc and reconnect? cuz i was having 218 ip and it suddently dc and i get 219 again...
*
what is xlinkai??

the QoS we talking is the feature that we can put priority for something like web browser top priority and bit torrent second priority...
so that web browsing speed with not affect much by the bit torrent....
and also to control the upload and download speed limit.....

the router dc and reconnect maybe affected by the high SNR value on modem side.....

Correction, it is a low SNR margin. The higher the better.

go to web GUI...
administration > management...
find IP Filter Settings (adjust these for P2P)..
change the maximum port to 4096...
both timeout to 120...

the signal strength...
wireless> advance settings
change the value of xmit power...

you cannot do that if the router does the streamyx dialing. You only can access both modem and router config page if :
1) router's ip changed to another ip (not 192.168.1.1) eg 192.168.2.1
2) the modem ip can remain 192.168.1.1
3) the modem does the dialing for streamyx not the router.
4) set connection type in dd-wrt as "Automatic configuration-DHCP"

then, you can access the config page for both at
router = 192.168.2.1
modem = 192.168.1.1

but, for me it not worth it...
*
mind to ask.. why not worth it???
for modem does the dailing??

more load to the cheapo modem, wasted the advantage that router handles it better
*
oh....
no wonder my net so unstable .... coz of the modem dailing the net.... rclxub.gif
so you figure up how to config the address correctly????

how to configure dd-wrt so that wireless clients don't get disconnected after some time of idle? my laptop seems to always get disconnected when idle at home with dd-wrt, but it doesnt happen when using my office wireless.
*
is it after 1 day.. then it disconnected??
you can deal this problem at setup>basic setup....
find for DHCP > client lease time.. and change the value to higher one or put 0 (? never try this before)

for the MAC filter of wireless...
go wireless > MAC filter ... press enable tab and select the option there : "Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network"....
then press MAC filter list and put in all your computer MAC address inside..
or you just play around with options there....

did but i does show the ip mac of any pc.
i tried refresh but scan none
*
huh???
you mean you use the router to scan your notebook???
you should go to status>wireless/LAN and get your notebook MAC and put it into the allow MAC list.....

or your notebook can`t scan your router????
this i not sure what happen.. very rare case....

Hi,

I need suggestion/help. I'm going to buy wireless router to share my internet connection between my 2 pc (1 upstairs, 1 below). Mostly everywhere people will recommend me Linksys WRT54G. I got some questions about this router:

1) how far is the signal? i want to put it on downstairs, so need to know it can reach the other pc or not.
2) What's the diff between WRT54G, WRT54GS and WRT54GL? In terms of custom firmware, durability and features.
3) My current modem is wired modem router (Dlink 504T). Is it compatible to combine WRT54G and this modem? Should i set it as bridge mode?

I think thats all for now. Thanks for replying.
*
1. not so sure how far is it... me single storey i boost signal till 45mW... it covers my whole house using original antena... maybe you need to do something on the antena...
2. if you use DD-WRT ... all the 3 seems no different.. if original linksys firmware.. GS have speedboost where GL/G are disabled....
GL is WRT54G v4... where linksys come out for third party firmware purpose haha.... more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G
3. you can easily set it to run router mode or bridge mode....

err, it doesnt strong enough to cover whole 2 storey house? sad.gif

is it possible to find WRT54G v3 and below in lowyat plaza? cause, i found a custom fw that is compatible with xlink kai(online gaming with adhoc to my psp) and the problem here is it only support up to v3. I looked at wiki, current version for wrt54g is v8.. so, is it possible to find v3 below in lowyat?
*
not so sure can the signal cover the whole double storey house... coz i don`t have one.... cry.gif but you can boost up the signal strength...
play safe put one notebook cooler fan on top of the router for cooling purpose....

don`t think lowyat have v3 anymore... you need to get it from ebay....

The WRT54G doesn't have any overheating issue but he was just recommending to play safe if you are going to leave it on 24/7 by adding a cooling fan or something to keep the temperature lower.
*
ya..
because i recommending to raise up the xmit power....
who knows suddenly the router`s temperature go out the limit.....
depending on how much power you set on xmit power...

but the word in bold really make me cry.gif

Can WRT54GS v1.1 flashed with DD-WRT. This router to be used only a access point connected to a Dlink Router modem 504T.

And can with the DDWRT firmware i control the bandwidth of the client internet speed ? to restrict bittorrent ?
*
WRT54GS v1.1 - can
WRT54GL v1.1 - can

Connect to dlink 504T - can.. just set DHCP on the router side...

Limiting the bandwidth - can.. provided that you know what port they are using... not so sure about this.. i tried but failed... cry.gif

possible to set the maximum download speed and upload in term of kbps for a specific ip ?

example set the download speed and uploadspeed 50/20kbps for 192.168.1.66

?

this will effect the lan tranfer speed as well rite ?
*
i think this only offer for paid version of DD-WRT....

see it here.. http://www.dd-wrt.com/shop/catalog/product...&products_id=31

thanks.. but mine is a wtgv5 do you think it's possible to flash the firmware to ddwrt?
*
if not mistaken.. v5 only support micro edition DD-WRT...

i tried the ip routing for ip addressing of my router and modem...

modem: 10.0.0.1
router: 192.168.1.1

i tried this command:
ifconfig vlan1:0 10.0.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -o vlan1 -d 10.0.0.0/24 -j SNAT --to-source 10.0.0.2
but 10.0.0.1 no respone... for 10.0.0.2 it redirected me to DD-WRT web GUI....
