QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Feb 1 2007, 08:31 AM) Guys, i have a few noobish questions regarding DD-WRT 1) It's true that the 218.XXX ip work better on my PC, i would love to get them whenever i connect to the internet again due to changed DD-WWRT settings or sudden disconnection. I always use the reboot router button to restart my router, if i do this frequently will it damage my router? 2) Next, is it neccessary i use QoS to reduce the router's load and probably give BT a nicer balance in terms of consistent speeds? I don't use QoS, but i don't really have problems with surfing + BT at almost full speeds without QoS on. EDIT: Thanks 1) Why do you have to reboot ? If you want to reconnect, go under Status and there is a section on Internet. Click disconnect and connect again. 2) If you don't have problems downloading with BT and doing other things at the same time, then just use it without QoS for full speed.

Yes looks like QoS is not configured so multi-tasking isn't really capable.

QUOTE(irix @ Feb 3 2007, 02:35 PM) new WRT54GL user here.. just bought it this afternoon.. so, what's the latest n most stable DD-WRT version u all currently use? For a home user, the DD-WRT v23 SP2 mini version is sufficient.

QUOTE(intothefantasy @ Feb 4 2007, 07:24 AM) can i know the chances on bricking my router for v5? cuz i am kinda worry tho and i am new to this thing I would say only 1% if you follow all the instructions given. The 1% comes from maybe a power outage during flashing.

QUOTE(snowmei @ Feb 4 2007, 05:53 PM) what is xlinkai?? the QoS we talking is the feature that we can put priority for something like web browser top priority and bit torrent second priority... so that web browsing speed with not affect much by the bit torrent.... and also to control the upload and download speed limit..... the router dc and reconnect maybe affected by the high SNR value on modem side..... Correction, it is a low SNR margin. The higher the better.

QUOTE(irix @ Feb 5 2007, 09:50 AM) another question here.. how to block BT/p2p for just one pc?? means that other clients can use BT except one, without knowing which port he uses.. i've already tried to set Bulk priority for that pc, but it still sucks all the bandwidth n causes slow web surfing for other clients.. which packet scheduler is better, HFSC or HTB..? Have you edited the BitTorrent settings in QoS ? By default the protocol is set to P2P but if the person uses protocol encryption, the router won't be able to identify all the P2P packets, so the best thing is to find out which port he uses.

QUOTE(RyanTham @ Feb 5 2007, 07:14 PM) yeah !!!!thanks guys...i hv succesfully flash my router to DDWRT v23 on my GSv4 but then i feel that it is slower than the original firmware.. Have you raised the maximum ports for your router ? Also try playing around with the QoS section, it helps a lot for me as I normally multi task like downloading and playing games at the same time.

QUOTE(unnamed @ Feb 5 2007, 08:05 PM) when i first flashed to dd-wrt, i also felt a lot slower but then i figured is because of the enhanced firewall(not sure about this - correct me if i'm wrong). i'm now running with firewall disabled and is fast again. I enable the firewall and no performance difference can be felt. Perhaps it could be the connection too.

QUOTE(snowmei @ Feb 5 2007, 11:35 PM) go to web GUI... administration > management... find IP Filter Settings (adjust these for P2P).. change the maximum port to 4096... both timeout to 120... the signal strength... wireless> advance settings change the value of xmit power... hardyboyz please advice this.. me didn`t set this before... As for the xmit power, raising it to 70 is the maximum recommended value as anything higher would generate a lot of heat and it will reduce the life span of the router.

QUOTE(intothefantasy @ Feb 7 2007, 01:34 AM) can i ask how much does u guys that using 1mb streamyx put ur upload and download speed in the QoS? and...i kinda suspect the line is going up for 1.5mb for some reason cuz before i flash this firmware i can direct download a file with 150kbps.....so do u guys put 1500 for ur download or 1025 for download? and how abt upload? For me I put 90% of the maximum download speed achieved and 85% of my maximum upload speed achieved.

Usually if you want to host a game, you can't have any BT or P2P running in the background. Players would want the best gaming experience therefore they will complain of any delay. If you are just a player, things should be going fine as hosting a game depends very much on your upload too.

Read on it.

QUOTE(blindbox @ Feb 8 2007, 08:30 PM) The thing is.. my QoS is enabled, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Having QoS does not mean you will have 100% no delay at all. It just help improves compared to those without QoS.

QUOTE(vandetta @ Feb 13 2007, 03:57 AM) I'm in the lastest version of DD-WRT. Using Linksys WRT5G. Sharing with 3 wireless and 2 wired connections. What I want to do now is I want to block all bittorent connection. Let say block all connectrion from Bitcomet software. I don't want to use QoS since just want to block Bitcomet only. What I already tried was: Access Restriction -> Blocked Services -> Bittorent but the Bircomet still downloading and uploading. Any other suggestion? For that you have to find out which port are they using but they can easily overcome that by changing the port again.

QUOTE(mfa333 @ Feb 19 2007, 10:43 PM) err, it doesnt strong enough to cover whole 2 storey house? is it possible to find WRT54G v3 and below in lowyat plaza? cause, i found a custom fw that is compatible with xlink kai(online gaming with adhoc to my psp) and the problem here is it only support up to v3. I looked at wiki, current version for wrt54g is v8.. so, is it possible to find v3 below in lowyat? You can just get Linksys WRT54GL which is a revision model for WRT54G v4.

The WRT54G doesn't have any overheating issue but he was just recommending to play safe if you are going to leave it on 24/7 by adding a cooling fan or something to keep the temperature lower.
