What custom roms are you guys using? I schemed through XDA and found Glazed and Smooth Rom to be the more popular ones. any feedback?
*
glazed rom stop development for a long long time. it was the first custom rom. thats why the view count so high.
dont get cheated by it.

cm10 is a good rom,
paranoid not bad also.
or you can try aokp.

i am using stock tough. feel sien with these custom roms. always need to update, always got new version.
sometimes update got problem need cwm restore back.

stock is already fast and fluid, these custom rom dont add much in terms of speed.
they are similar at best. battery life like same only.

i miss toggles, but there is an app for it "notification toggles'' for stock rom users.

just wana use the tab. dont want to spend hours everyday flash rom to explore.
stock is good icon_rolleyes.gif

i don wanna root or rom
*
then there really is no other way.

in the custom roms i mentioned,
just long press power button, got one extra option will appear, called "expand desktop"
then the nav bar and notification bar will dissapear smoothly. long press power and tap the same option to make them appear.

Wireless display: Allows devices to enable wireless display. Users can share movies, YouTube videos, etc., which are on their screen, via an HDTV. Just connect a wireless display adapter to any HDMI-enabled TV to mirror what’s on your screen.

this is one of the new features of android 4.2.

what exactly is a "wireless display adapter"
got sell? how much?

other android phone and tablet also can use?
then no need to cry over no MHL port, this is better than HDMI cable.
anyone using that?

Thanks for sharing your past experiences smile.gif I read the XDA it seemed like there was a new update on the 28th oct? anyway, those bravia engines and what not engines dont have much notable improvements to the fluidity oh?
*
glazed rom is a really ciplak rom.
the version number write wrong, project butter not working at recent app list, icons oversize till cut off at notification tray
it was the one of the early custom rom, and also the most laggy one. stock rom pownes it.
but problem is many people in xda never try stock rom, once buy straight flash custom rom.
doh.gif thats why the view so insanely high.

the developer small kid only. 13 or 15 years old forgot.
it was built i think development end since end of july. and started again only recently.
now the new one maybe much more improvement. you try and see.

i also looking for a way to make the colors on n7 punchier and more vibrant.
tried so many screen related app in market, all not work one.

you try and see the bravia engine got make it better or not.
everytime after i look n7 after see amoled screen. the n7 loos like black and white only. so pale.

Eh? I thought Android 4.2 will only roll out when the Nexus 4 gets released, sometime around mid November.
You already got the 4.2 update? O_o
My Nexus 7 is currently stock. Just rooted to install Ad-Away, but no ROMs.
Personally, the only custom ROMs I trust are Bugless Beast and CyanogenMod. I've heard good things about Paranoid Android, but haven't tried that one personally.
I can't confirm, but I think one of the launchers might be able to let you hide the nav bar. Maybe the newly released ADW Ex or Apex or Nova. I know for certain that you can hide the top panel, but I never checked if you could hide the nav bar or not.
*
those apps hide the dock bar & notification bar. but certainly not the navigation bar.

since honeycomb days, lots of effort have been made to toggle the nav bar.
all fail. they are too laggy and caused much instability.

finally in ICS, some custom rom got this feature and its much more smooth.
currently the one in cm10 and PA are truely seamless. appear and dissappear without lag.
even when playing games like asphalt7.

but like you, i'm using stock. sick of custom roms, always have a new version.
its not a must to update, but knowing there's a newer version out there, its just kinda iresistable to flash the update.
when using PA, i hit 2 updates which are worst then the current built, i think its 2.12 and 2.15. have to cwm restore. really sweat la. 2.12 swap the nav keys for no reason, and 2.15 cause it to be so laggy, no more butter.

now on stock rom, no need check update or not. i rather lose those extra & not really neccesary features and have a peace of mind and enjoy my tablet.

Custom roms are not better than stock for Nexus 7 unlike other devices. So weird but true.
*
High 5! thumbup.gif

all custom rom same only in terms of fluidity.
you cant get smoother than 60fps.

haha i guess project butter helped close the gap between stock and custom roms a lot. I'm prolly gonna root it and wait till 4.2 comes out.
*
root is ok, but dont flash anything that does changes to system UI.
such as tablet mod hack, or change battery icon.
doing so will change system UI, and OTA update of sideload update via adb will fail.

had problem updating to 4.1.2 when i was stock,
all because i changed the battery icon. haiz doh.gif

Can you guys recommend a root kit that simply roots without unlocking bootloader (just like Chainfire's CF auto root for S3)?

I wish to root but remain stock rom as I don't intend to flash any custom ROM. Tq
*
dont think got such thing yet. just leave the bootloaded unlock la. no difference also.
if got any problem need send warranty, can always lock it back.

another thing is, samsung S3 bootloaded locker? i thought all samsung phone is unlocked one.

Thanks bro Mtxx, wasn't aware that S3 bootloader was already unlocked which explains the ease of rooting.

In your opinion, between wugfresh and mskip, which toolkit is more reliable then? Thanks
*
Mskip one.
I prefer cos smaller file size. And faster.

Xenon HD tablet UI enabled and Franco kernel r25...so smooth like durian cream:-) :-)

4.2 coming out.
duwan to be on other rom, wana get OTA or sideload via adb asap when 4.2 out.

Added on November 1, 2012, 8:01 pmfew pages back i reported nexus7 MTP got problem handle file transfer involving big quantity of files, especially with chinese characters.

i think its a n7 issue cos the same files i send to S2 using MTP mode was just fine. no idea why.

but to solve any similar issue, fastest way is to zip the file in N7 then copy out using MTP. strange my n7 cant detect anything .zip when i check in MTP. i rename to .txt then only it appear. so i copy the fake txt file out and rename back to zip on my pc and extract.

Firmware 4.2 is coming out on Nov 13
*
the features that i am looking forward is already available.
haha.

the swipe keyboard and photo sphere camera.
the new patched camera works even for non nexus phones ^^ so happy.

pointless to get the camera on nexus 7,
but you can get the keyboard.

http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-and...2-keyboard-apk/

i mentioned this is a previous post, but i think no one notice.
if you are on stock 4.1.2, there is a hidden keyboard called asus keyboard.
unfreeze it with titanium backup.
its basically an ugly keyboard with swipe features.

same as the one google anounce in 4.2, but google one is much nicer since its holo themed

Any info what kind of sim card would the 3g version use?

Normal?mini?micro?
*
hmm.gif
im more curious where is the sim card slot, right now i looking at my nexus7,
dont see a place to put sim also.

there is a tiny hole below the volume down button.
maybe thats for pin to poke to push the sim tray out, similar to iphones.
but where is the tray goin to pop out?

Or need to open back cover to insert sim? that would be quite troublesome.

My Nex 7 suddenly cannot mount pendrive via stickmount. The pen drive only flash for a few milisec. Push in, push out few times also can't. Last time it was working smoothly.  IT happens b4 but that time the batt was low, but after recharge it working again. Now even the batt is at 70% not working at all. Anyone experience  such thing? Your advise is highly appreciated

Does this mean my current setup will never get 4.2 ota?
Even when official ota arrive, after I download, when it flash, it will have error too right?

Even small changes in system folder also cause ota fail.
How many people actually use 100% stock.
Last time due to battery icon mod can't upgrade 4.1.2

Now due to aosp browser and modified maps app, fail to get 4.2.

If you do not have a nandroid backup than flash the 4.1.2 google image using toolkit than only upgrade
*
That's what I did when I wana upgrade 4.1.2

I stayed on stock because I don't want the same hassle when 4.2 arrive.

Can't believe have to go through that shitty process again.

Heck I'm still on stock rom! Just wit a molded maps app. Even if I totally remove the maps app also it reject me from update. Sweat La

The crap talk about nexus getting easy updates. Even on stock rom also like that.

Worst is my laptop is not here, can't use toolkit to restore. Angry.

are you some kind of hardcore freak nexus fan, who are arrogant and think highly of yourself for being a pro in android stuff?

whatever. i am just average user, have some interest in android, read all the instructions and knows basics about rooting, unlock bootloader, flash roms etc.

i dont feel special using a nexus device. its just a toy to me. bought mainly because its cheap and a good deal.
seeing people say android/nexus is for pro, you nood dont use it is plain stupid imo.
nexus device is still a tablet, suppose to be usable and user friendly too.
its NOT meant to be somekind of extra complacated tablet for PRO users ONLY.

that being said, i borrowed a laptop, installed mskip toolkit, download factory image for 4.1.2, flash, deleted everything, unlocked, root, flash cwm recovery.

transfer TB files back into tablet, send the 80MB flashable zip that has the 4.2 update.
boot into cwm recovery, flashed it, completed, when wana reboot, ask me want to keep cwm and root or not,
i said yes.

but after boot into 4.2, i cant restore TB, it says i dont have root access?????
i have superuser icon. but i cant use TB at all.

reroot using the toolkit, but still fail.
what should i do? how to get back root access?

i stuck with an empty blank 4.2 nexus7.
