QUOTE(allycat @ Nov 29 2012, 02:38 PM)
Hi Sifus
I a newbie with smartphones with tablets.

I'm thinking of getting Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7. The S3 will be a mobile internet and wi-fi hotspot. The NExus 7 will be an e-reader.

Will this combo works well?

Appreciate your advice
*
The S3 battery will exhaust at 30-35% per hour n phone will gets very hot above 45-50 degree C
Best is use Note 2 at 10% per hour n less than 40 degree C

Tks benny888.

I was thinking of note2 but it's very large when put into pocket.

The 30-35% drop refers to wifi hotspot use? Or normal phone n mobile data use?

Tks
*
Hotspots use n continous 3g browsing
Normal use it is twice worse than note2

Anyone uninstalled superSu before? After some google it seems like its either we need root explorer or there are no certain 'confirm' method to uninstall it. Since im already unrooted, i can't be using the root explorer method.

I can hid superSu but i can't remove it entirely.
*
How did you end up in this situation having supersu retain and lost root ?
The only way to remove supersu is to flash back stock google image and this will delete all your stuffs completely including all your visible data in internal memory
Even if rooted you cannot uninstall supersu using say Titanium Backup

QUOTE(chaukeng @ Nov 29 2012, 09:28 PM)
I update (OTA) to 4.2 and hence my root is gone. But superSu still remained.

http://androidforums.com/marquee-all-thing...-superuser.html

"Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.

Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one."

Some users from that particular forum actually found this method to be working. But need to do factory unlock.

Thank you uncle for the reply. But i guessed there's no other way around right? Or if i just leave superSu as it is, is it going to affect anything, say performance?
*
That android forum trick does not always work but than you need root to do it
Leaving supersu app there will not affect anything as it is not working, just a dead app
Why dont you root it back and expand the potential of your tablet ?

QUOTE(chaukeng @ Nov 29 2012, 09:39 PM)
Im still quite new to rooting and flashing. The only device i've rooted is the kindle fire. the first gen one not the new one with locked bootloader. Its only few simple steps using the utility but i still messed it up getting bootloop 3 times.

Don't feel particularly 'secure' when my device is rooted. Btw, is the performance difference so huge between a custom rom and a stock one? Since N7 on stock already seems very good for me. tongue.gif

btw: If in any case i need to send n my N7 for warranty. Any chance i will be rejected if they spotted my superSu logo?
*
I have quoted here several times. My previous unit was with bootloader unlock, rooted and installed with Clockworkmod recovery. After one rom flash the tablet keeps rebooting only to clockworkmod and it cannot go beyond the recovery menu. I cannot even get it into fastboot mode to reflash stock rom
So no choice i send in to JB center and the tech straightaway know i have unlock bootloader, rooted and change recovery - he still tell me warranty is FOC and he will request new motherboard. However he screw up changing the motherboard and give me anew unit as replacement

BTW use the Nexus 7 toolkit - i always say this is an no brainer tool ( meaning literally no need brains also know how to use ) . Just pick and click what you want - no need to write manually any adb commands from terminal. If you know how to read, choose and click you can root, unroot, unlock/lock bootloader, flash recovery, flash stock google image etc etc

Sorry uncle, i've read before but this may just be a one-off case?

Ya i rooted my N7 few days back using the toolkit. Easier than the kindle fire's. I will do some reading over at xda first and if something caught my attention then i will root it again. But at least at the moment im very contented now. Even the speaker is good enough for me. biggrin.gif
*
Several users here in the earlier thread one has reported having speakers replaced with their tablets rooted. That was done at KL center

You can't be too sure - apparently the Nexus 7 uses the same Broadcom chip as a call-capable China brand tablet. People at XDA working on it..
*
So far at xda there is a thread talking about this. Tests to date show it can be used for only SIP calls ( similar yo VOIP concept)
Results are mix
SIP enabled call server I m not aware in this country probably some big corporation used it to cut down phone call costs

Copy back the whole tb folder to tab internal memory
Launch TB n it should auto detect the tb backup folder

What folder you copy over ? Is it name titaniumbackup ?? Open the folder in your PC - is it fill with all your backup contents. You see a listing, something like this ( just a partial take) :

afzkl.development.mVideoPlayer-20121021-090803.properties
afzkl.development.mVideoPlayer-20121021-090803.tar.gz

If so, that could means a possible corrupted backup if the app cannot detect it

Why is it that Im on TWRP and when I click backup it says my file path cant be accessed. How to change the file path?
*
You have 2 choices - internal storage or external SD. Default it will go to internal storage. If you have a USB thumb drive plug in, select external SD
These choices are just immediately above the SWIPE TO BACKUP

yes, the folder name is TitaniumBackup....n inside the folder, all were zipped file. so i juz copy the whole folder n paste into my N7, but when i tried as wat u said juz now (detect the folder place), it show cant detect folder. n the "restore missing apps+data" also showing zero @@
*
Most probably your backup is corrupted but than quite unlikely as you can open it and see the files
Or try uninstall the TB app, restart tablet and reinstall it again
And i hope you are using the original app . IF cracked app, sorry cannot help you further as many cracked apps are badly coded and will bring unforseen issues

did you select Whole Device for detection?
*
Actually this detection step is totally unnecessary - more for trouble shooting. The app should auto detect it in internal storage as the tablet do not have external sdcard . I find it strange that he cannot have it done at all

I have no idea at all. First time i come across such an issue. Try asking for help at TB support page since you bought the app
How big is your TB backup folder. If not too big perhaps you can post it at box or dropbox and i could download it and check the contents for you and test it out on my N7

You cannot even see the file contents of the TB backup folder using any file manager/explorer ?? That is indeed strange
Than I would say is your rom issue already. Try reflash the rom instead

btw, is the diff android versiomn affect? i backup the previous 1 on 4.1.1, n yest after i get back my N7, i straight update to 4.2.1
*
Titanium Backup has no problems working across all the later versions. Infact my N7 data is a backup from my older tablet Galaxy Tab Honeycomb 3.2 than progressively upgraded its data to 4.01, 4.04 and subsequently used on the N7 ver 4.1.1 and than upgraded to 4.1.2 , 4.2 and now latest 4.2.1
