hello sifus,
I have a very worn out wira aeroback 1.6l auto. Currently i have two problems with this car.

1) Engine stalled when the gear is in N during braking/ idle in front traffic light. It only happened 4 times. Normally after the engine stalled, i just have to ignite the engine and it's ready to go. But the recent incident i was not able to start the engine at all. after like 5-10 mins i tried again and it works again. Checked with my mechanic and he suspects is the throttle body issue. he told me that the throttle body will cost about rm700. However, he said that he does not guarantee that will solve the problem. any suggestion what are the other parts that might cause the problem?

2) High fuel consumption. The FC of the car has gone from worse to worst. Previously, the car able to run 250km on rm50 of petrol but now only can run 150km on rm50 :S do you guys think this issue is related to the engine stalling issue?

Hope to get input from all the sifus here on what are the cheap solutions available for this car. Thinking to change car by early next year. But have to make sure this Wira can last until then.

Thanks!! smile.gif

since u already planned to replace the car, dont change the throttle body. waste money.
try getting a 2nd opinion (or 3rd) by visiting other mechanics.

actually unless u share more about your service/maintenance history of this car, its quite hard to give an assessment

hmmm... when the stalling happened initially (1 month ago), i have sent the car to check and replaced the spark plugs, air filter, engine oil. Other things never touch before.

The car does not vibrate badly during idling. It only vibrates horribly when it is going to stall...

try cleaning the throttle body. as i know it affects the idling a lot (and during braking, engine stalls)
however, this does not explain your poor fuel consumption at all.
whats your car mileage to date?

the thing circled in red is the throttle body. just disconnect the big rubber hose from airbox, then clean the throttle body with petrol or some solvent with a cloth. try to clean the "butterfly" as much as u can. best is if u can remove the entire throttle body and clean it, but this should do. try it

the car mileage is about 196k km now.

Added on October 22, 2012, 11:17 amfor the high FC, i thinking if it is due to faulty carburettor?

been through this...what you need is to check your speed sensor (located behind your meter panel)...either it's faulty or not enough earthing. bring it to a proper auto electrician to solder a new wire through it if it's not enough earth.

high FC could be due to faulty O2 sensor. likely the case due to the age of the car.

should be the case if my 14 yrs experience with the car serves me well. good luck

hi,
Not to doubt your valuable input, but why does the speed sensor will affect the stalling issue?

May i know roughly how much does it cost to change the O2 sensor?

thanks!

sorry really no idea how much to have it cleaned, as i usually clean it myself once a year. should be cheap? since its just cleaning, not really hard at all LOL. u gotta ask your trusted workshop...

faulty carb shouldn't affect FC as far as i know.

no need special cleaner la. cars are machines, no need too pamper IMHO sweat.gif
i use either kerosene or petrol. use some old rag (old t-shirt works very well) dip in kerosene, then start use finger to clean the insides of the throttle body. clean the cyclindrical passage, and also pay attention to the butterfly. open the butterfly and try to clean as much as u can (i'm assuming u will only disconnect the big rubber hose and clean)
