Hey all, I'm looking to get a 19" widescreen LCD monitor (too poor to buy a 24") and connect it to my X360. I know several X360 owners here connect their X360 with their LCD monitors, so I have some questions to clear up before I take the plunge...

1) What do you use to connect your X360 to your monitor?? Seems that there are 3 ways: VGA cable, VGA box or TV Tuner. Is TV tuner really a good choice to connect your console to the monitor?

2) For widescreen, do you need to change any settings on the X360? I'm eyeing the VA1912wb which has a weird 16:10 aspect, so can the X360 support such a setting? Or must it strictly be 16:9 or 4:3??

3) Anyone know where I can get a VGA cable around here for the X360? laugh.gif

4) Oh, and since I'm doing this anyway, I might as well ask.....what the heck is that other cable (next to the X360 RCA cables) supposed to connect to?? tongue.gif I assume it's a HDTV connector, but I've honestly never seen one....so is it specifically for HDTVs only? Can this actually connect directly to LCD monitors by chance.....

5) I might as well add this one in just for the sake of it......

Dell has a 20" Widescreen as well
Link
2)When u connect a WS to the 360, u can select the different screen resolution, .e.g 720p or 1080i... these res are already in WS format.
3) I thought Chinsc is doing a bulk on VGA cable?
4) If i'm not wrong, that connector that u're referring to can only be found in Japanese TVs
5) Most WS are LCDs or Plasma's right? But u guys were discussing during PGR3 tonight about some SONY WEGAs that are in the WS format..so I dunno.

p/s Most ppl claimed that the VGA cables causes the colors to be washed out. Since I connect using component, I don't know how true that is. U might wanna ask Zakaath, he connects using D-SUB inputs.

I think that's true for 3rd party VGA cable. Supposedly the official VGA cable is excellent. But the price is....aiyah....over RM100, which is quite pricey just for a cable....plus I don't think the official VGA cable is available around here.....

Nope, the 20" 2005FPW has D-SUB, D-VI..not sure if it has S-VIDEO and COMPOSITE.

But if u're just using for PC and 360, then it should suffice...BUT if u're thinking of adding a PS3 later then u will need to buy some kinda switch box.

Actually, I've had bad experiences with DELL but lots of ppl have had no problems too. I personally will not buy anything from them in the future.

Nope, supposedly the VGA cable by MS produces washed out colors..However, ppl have claimed that the VGA made by MONSTER has no such problems. Read the forums at http://www.hardforums.com. You'll have so sift through the thread.

1) What do you use to connect your X360 to your monitor?? Seems that there are 3 ways: VGA cable, VGA box or TV Tuner. Is TV tuner really a good choice to connect your console to the monitor?

for monitor, the best is only the VGA cable. else, try vdigi. i got both. vdigi is a transcoder for progressive scan mode to VGA. so it's only support the console that have 480p, 720p or 1080i support (xbox and xbox360 will have this turn on by default) my opinion, the VGA cable need to adjust the brightness and contrast manualy. vdigi will have more balance colour compare to it. but VGA cable will have higher resolution up to 1280x1024~ but i didnt see any deferent in between 720p mode.

2) For widescreen, do you need to change any settings on the X360? I'm eyeing the VA1912wb which has a weird 16:10 aspect, so can the X360 support such a setting? Or must it strictly be 16:9 or 4:3??

16:10 is ok, just that u will notice a bit of black line on the top and on the bottom of the display.

3) Anyone know where I can get a VGA cable around here for the X360? laugh.gif

i do have a bulks... but i guess it's not be able to success due to slow respon. i got my VGA cable from Djin's, original.

Can this actually connect directly to LCD monitors by chance.....

yah... it's mostly use on japanese tv only. over in malaysia it's rare....

5) I might as well add this one in just for the sake of it......

CRT or LCD? tongue.gif

CRT will have best image, LCD still not 100% perfect specially the respon time and also the black and white not as natural as CRT.

2005 FPW has S-video and Composite but no component. Want a component? Get yourself a Dell's 24" widescreen lcd..but add RM1k more for the additional 4 inches lol! laugh.gif

I'm using Tv card to play my PS2 using S-video input. Tried the direct S-video input from the monitor, but the picture is not that sharp if compared using thru tvcard + Dscaler software.

No more free TV Tuner? sad.gif

Credit card is always a hassle in small shops these days. Instead of getting a discount for paying with cash, these days you need to be charged an extra 3% or so just to cover their own credit card charges. Which is why I only use my cc in big shops and pay cash for others.

Credit card = convenience? Not in LYP mad.gif

Here is my review..
The 1912W is a great budget widescreen 19". Colors are sweet.. response time is 8ms, wiewing angle is also sweet. It has DVI and Sub-D, I use the DVI to connect to my PC and the Sub-D to the X360, hence I eliminate the need for a video switch/selector. Played a couple of DVD's like Revenge of the Sith n Gattaca, nice color reproductions and fast image turnaround no noticable lags. Dvix files also seems nicely shown. The only downside is that there will be a little black bar on top n bottom even the Movie is in widescreen format n the player is set to show in original aspect. This is because the 1912W is 16:10 and not the normal 16:9 widescreen ratio you tend to find in other widescreen displays. Nonetheless is a small thingy to me. Games on the X360 are gorgeous man. Its breathtaking to finally go to resolutions like 1280x768. Which the 1912W will do. Its all good man, PGR3 loooks stunning n Joanna Dark is amazing.
For those on a budget.. Think bout it..
Cheers all.

^ ya normal VGA cable coz the V1912W got DVI n VGA input so u can use bot at the same time n press the button (2) to switch between both displays..
Provided that your PC uses DVI then u can switch the inputs from the LCD itself.
IMHO, GET the V1912W n GRAW, the FNR3 can wait..

maybe u can try to hunt for 937D CMV widescreen model which have the DVi input as well.

but for me, the 937A model is really sweet enough.... oh yah, forgot to post up some screen shot from COD2 pc version lastnight. the graphic is imagine! clear and sharp! (sharpness only set to 3... max is 5~ )

but the drop down point is when playing quake4, the widescreen mode seems to be not as perfect as COD2... it might be due to the resolution setting. COD2 can set direct to 1440x920 but Quake4 only can max at 1280x768 in wide mode.... cuz even though i turn on the AA to8x, still notice a lot (gigi)~ (sorry, forgot how to explain le.)

and also when playing DVD movie, the dark colour is not as good as CRT. might need some tuning... ill make a report on that lately this weekend.

but when i play condame DEMO on xbox360.. the dark enviroment is really clear! same as CRT!

so my point is here... base on some information, this is 2nd generation of CMV's LCD monitor. so a lot of improved now.

CMV~ way to go! nice and cheap! really cheap :-)

BTW, I'm reading reviews that say the VA1912W has some bleeding light issues.....do you have the same problems?

Is 4ms - 8ms that much different? I dunno, I read many opinions that say you won't see much difference between 4ms and 8ms, unless you have a super-sensitive eye.

something to share when purchasing LCD

- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 8ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2

350 cd/m2 & above would be a lot better

Just bought the XBOx360 from DjiNn, at the same time also purchased Viewsonic widescreen 19" LCD VA1912W the other computer shop. Since the VGA cable was out of stock according to DjiNn, I have to use my compoent-to-VGA transcoder VD-Z3 to connect my XBOX 360 to my new LCD. THe resoluation was set at 720p.

The result is totally unsatisfactory, the color was dull and the graphic was not sharp at all. mad.gif Then I decided to use the same configuration but connect my xbox360 to 17" CRT monitor and the result was excellent, just like the display quality direct from PC source.
TO confirm my LCD display quality, I plugged my LCD to PC and playing PC games, I also get the excellent result.

From above experiment, I guess the culprit should be VD-Z3 as it is not optimized for LCD display purpose. I plan on buying VGA cable and hope that I will get the PC equivalent display quality. Is it possible?

I also found the feedback from the net about the inferior 3rd party VGA cable will produce foggy effect graphic quality, anybody experience that?

yeah. mk84 also complaint "ghosting" effect on the third party VGA cable. is best that you find a direct cable that from xbox 360 to pc. comparing using vdigi progressive scan vga box.

it works well on my xbox. but.. not 360.. laugh.gif

Yes, direct cable is the best. I've been using the Dragon 3rd party VGA cable (got from Djinn) and it has so far been excellent for me. A little bit ghosting at first, but after a while I got used to it and it's really great. My VA1912w is loving it laugh.gif

Thanks for the advise. I am playing on my CRT monitor through Vdigi VD-Z3. Too bad that VGA cable is out of stock. I might want to direct order from Play Asia, until then I will start to play it on my VA1912W.
The ghosting was due to slow response time on monitor, or VGA cable quality?
Btw, what resolution do you set for VGA output?

sad.gif what a waste, got big LCD screen but can't enjoy it now.

Res is set at 1280x720, which is the 16:10 ratio that the VA1912w caters to.

Not really sure what caused the ghosting, but I'm just guessing that it's because my eyes is too used to watching DOA4 on the TV, and hasn't really adjusted to an LCD. Now I don't really feel there is any ghosting at all biggrin.gif The response time 8ms shouldn't be much of a problem, and the VGA cable has been great so far, colours are all nice and bright.

Hey guys, anyone here using Dell 2007WFP with your beloved 360 & PC (via VGA & DVI)? well i just got mine yesterday tongue.gif , and i can tell ya, IMHO it looks WAY much better compare to CRT, literally... worth every single penny smile.gif
Anyways, i notice this model has PIP (Picture In Picture) & PBP (Picture By Picture) mode, my question is.. can i use either PBP or PIP between VGA (360) & DVI (PC)? cuz, i tried switching betwen VGA & S-video, VGA & composite, DVI & composite... so on and so forth, it's all there. Except for VGA & DVI. Anyone know bout this? or there is no such option for PIP/PBP between these 2 ports...

Hey there, another Dell 2007WFP user here. thumbup.gif Yeah, unfortunately there's no option for DVI and VGA in PIP, only DVI/VGA with Composite/S-Video in PIP. sad.gif
