Hey all, I'm looking to get a 19" widescreen LCD monitor (too poor to buy a 24") and connect it to my X360. I know several X360 owners here connect their X360 with their LCD monitors, so I have some questions to clear up before I take the plunge...

1) What do you use to connect your X360 to your monitor?? Seems that there are 3 ways: VGA cable, VGA box or TV Tuner. Is TV tuner really a good choice to connect your console to the monitor?

2) For widescreen, do you need to change any settings on the X360? I'm eyeing the VA1912wb which has a weird 16:10 aspect, so can the X360 support such a setting? Or must it strictly be 16:9 or 4:3??

3) Anyone know where I can get a VGA cable around here for the X360? laugh.gif

4) Oh, and since I'm doing this anyway, I might as well ask.....what the heck is that other cable (next to the X360 RCA cables) supposed to connect to?? tongue.gif I assume it's a HDTV connector, but I've honestly never seen one....so is it specifically for HDTVs only? Can this actually connect directly to LCD monitors by chance.....

5) I might as well add this one in just for the sake of it......

Dell has a 20" Widescreen as well
Link
2)When u connect a WS to the 360, u can select the different screen resolution, .e.g 720p or 1080i... these res are already in WS format.
3) I thought Chinsc is doing a bulk on VGA cable?
4) If i'm not wrong, that connector that u're referring to can only be found in Japanese TVs
5) Most WS are LCDs or Plasma's right? But u guys were discussing during PGR3 tonight about some SONY WEGAs that are in the WS format..so I dunno.

p/s Most ppl claimed that the VGA cables causes the colors to be washed out. Since I connect using component, I don't know how true that is. U might wanna ask Zakaath, he connects using D-SUB inputs.

I think that's true for 3rd party VGA cable. Supposedly the official VGA cable is excellent. But the price is....aiyah....over RM100, which is quite pricey just for a cable....plus I don't think the official VGA cable is available around here.....

Nope, the 20" 2005FPW has D-SUB, D-VI..not sure if it has S-VIDEO and COMPOSITE.

But if u're just using for PC and 360, then it should suffice...BUT if u're thinking of adding a PS3 later then u will need to buy some kinda switch box.

Actually, I've had bad experiences with DELL but lots of ppl have had no problems too. I personally will not buy anything from them in the future.

Nope, supposedly the VGA cable by MS produces washed out colors..However, ppl have claimed that the VGA made by MONSTER has no such problems. Read the forums at http://www.hardforums.com. You'll have so sift through the thread.

1) What do you use to connect your X360 to your monitor?? Seems that there are 3 ways: VGA cable, VGA box or TV Tuner. Is TV tuner really a good choice to connect your console to the monitor?

for monitor, the best is only the VGA cable. else, try vdigi. i got both. vdigi is a transcoder for progressive scan mode to VGA. so it's only support the console that have 480p, 720p or 1080i support (xbox and xbox360 will have this turn on by default) my opinion, the VGA cable need to adjust the brightness and contrast manualy. vdigi will have more balance colour compare to it. but VGA cable will have higher resolution up to 1280x1024~ but i didnt see any deferent in between 720p mode.

2) For widescreen, do you need to change any settings on the X360? I'm eyeing the VA1912wb which has a weird 16:10 aspect, so can the X360 support such a setting? Or must it strictly be 16:9 or 4:3??

16:10 is ok, just that u will notice a bit of black line on the top and on the bottom of the display.

3) Anyone know where I can get a VGA cable around here for the X360? laugh.gif

i do have a bulks... but i guess it's not be able to success due to slow respon. i got my VGA cable from Djin's, original.

4) Oh, and since I'm doing this anyway, I might as well ask.....what the heck is that other cable (next to the X360 RCA cables) supposed to connect to?? tongue.gif I assume it's a HDTV connector, but I've honestly never seen one....so is it specifically for HDTVs only? yah... it's mostly use on japanese tv only. over in malaysia it's rare....

5) I might as well add this one in just for the sake of it......

CRT or LCD? tongue.gif

CRT will have best image, LCD still not 100% perfect specially the respon time and also the black and white not as natural as CRT.

2005 FPW has S-video and Composite but no component. Want a component? Get yourself a Dell's 24" widescreen lcd..but add RM1k more for the additional 4 inches lol! laugh.gif

I'm using Tv card to play my PS2 using S-video input. Tried the direct S-video input from the monitor, but the picture is not that sharp if compared using thru tvcard + Dscaler software.

Interesting. I never would've thought that TV Tuner would be better than direct S-Video. laugh.gif

You need to use the components ..not the composite or s-video.
