QUOTE(Katharsis @ Jul 26 2025, 08:23 PM) Personally, I really like Starling's Big hall and the cinema itself. While outside, it's kinda this open area and pretty meh, once you pass the ticket check-in, the place becomes very chill and comfy due to its blue-ish aesthetic and shaggy rugs for floor surfaces. Once you also enter the hall, you're greeted with a big ass screen and dark yet sleek hall with comfy chairs and good legroom. Agreed with this, I'm also a fan of Starling & IOI Damansara's GSCs, in a sense they feel very cozy and family friendly, if that makes sense? Equipment is also pretty well maintained, it's definitely still a comfy watch. Cental I-City TGV is also nice but I try to only go during late night as the jam and crowd there can be pretty intense. I do like that they have the Stormtrooper statue there tho at the spiral stairs, give it some character hahaHonestly, the PJ's GSCs of Starling and IOI Damansara (tropicana gardens formally) have great vibes. I really love them but too bad they're very far for me to visit commonly. The other one which I've only been to once is Central I-City's TGV. That one is luxurious as hell with white pillars and all. You have to walk up this spiral stairs I think? And ya, the atmosphere and architecture of the cinema was so prestige. The IMAX hall itself was dark, greenish and just mostly dark. One of the best experiences as a cinema explorer hahaha. Lastly, Pavilion Bukit Jalil TGV is luxurious as well. Really red, bright and the premier halls themselves of the DA and IMAX hall look like those live-theater hall for performing arts. The hallway before the entrance to the halls is sleek and modern. Ya, I think I-City is my favourite out of these just for the luxurious atmosphere. Really a great spot for movie going. Unfortunately ya, it's far af in Shah Alam haha. |

Planning to watch the new Demon Slayer movie, is it recommended to watch it in IMAX or should I just watch it in GSC's ATMOS ONYX or BIG ATMOS?

Thanks for the replies, in the end I chose going for Onyx ATMOS at IOI Mall Damansara's GSC instead of IMAX (not like there is any IMAXs with vacant seats, all booked out for next few days everywhere!). Still had a damn good time even when it's not IMAX, and the Onyx LED screen was a damn treat with gorgeous animations!

QUOTE(shinjite @ Aug 18 2025, 10:16 AM) Hey ya, after trying out both Starling and 1U's newly renovated HLB BIG halls with DA. Starling's one is big and we the viewers are a lot closer to the screen itself as it was one of the earlier adopters so the seats were only standard with minimal leg room. 1U's one has an elevated experience with upgraded premium reclining seats with big leg room space. Best of all, same ticket pricing so I will continue to patronise 1U's BIG hall for a better overall experience. 1U's hall is definitely smaller as well. Cheers! Thanks for sharing this, have not been going to 1U's GSC for the longest time cuz their stuff were kinda old & outdated, nice to see they upgraded after the recent reno![attachmentid=11517147] shinjite liked this post

QUOTE(ericling @ Sep 10 2025, 09:28 PM) Just curious - if purely based on image & sound quality (disregarding price & value), which format & which hall do you think would've been better than IMAX for Demon Slayer? I didn't watch Demon Slayer on IMAX, went to GSC IOI Damansara's Onyx Atmos instead, and it was still very enjoyable due to the HDR LED tech so animations on it look very crisp and contrasty, while the surround audio is pretty good too (got one moment with the crows that scared the audience due to it coming from only one side, we thought some fella yelled from behind us). Just sharing based on personal experience, didn't get to compare with IMAX version of the movie. And tbh, I feel IMAX bigger screen ratio is wasted on animations anyways |

QUOTE(LightKeyDarkBlade @ Sep 12 2025, 03:30 PM) Like what Katharsis said, something like Onyx or BIG or those with Dolby Atmos would've been good. Not to say that it's wrong to watch it in IMAX but you're paying a lot more for quite possibly not even the best experience. But yeah, it depends on your preferences in terms of the balance between visual and audio quality since they all offer different perks. Just watched Princess Mononoke on IMAX couple days ago, it was actually quite enjoyable and immersive due to the bigger screen and might be worth it since the movie itself has a lot of environment shots or scenes of a bigger scale. It made me reconsider maybe to rewatch Demon Slayer on IMAX even though i still enjoyed it immensely on Onyx.Just watched Seven Samurai at Mid Valley yesterday (first screening) and it was amazing. It's remastered in 4K and it was my first time watching it, and some more on a big screen in cinema. Fantastic. Also watched the special screening of Diamonds in the Sand at MyTOWN on Wednesday for free. Too bad there's only 1 screening for that because it's a very good film and it's a Japanese-Filipino-Malaysian co-production, with the same editor who also worked on The Gardening of Evening Mists and Abang Adik (both very good Malaysian films). The Q&A session was also insightful. Most likely going to watch some other films for this JFF. Really like how JFF is turning out when they show really good films like Seven Samurai. JFF 2024 even had Godzilla 1954, Godzilla Minus One, and Akira. I watched a few Ghibli films before but not Mononoke so I might watch that. Most likely not in IMAX though. Katharsis liked this post

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Sep 14 2025, 04:53 PM) Anime classic especially by Miyazaki is different animal Agreed. It's really beautifully animated and still held up well even though it's a 1997 film. Pacing is typical Miyazaki being a bit slow but it gives room to breathe and ponder on things. As a fan of the manga, Demon Slayer itself is actually adapted really well, but as a standalone film it sucks hard trying to cram 2 & 1/2 main battles/arcs into a single film.Original anime today cant top what is offered in Ghibli classic I not counting demon slayer because this is adapted from manga๐๐ Katharsis liked this post

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Sep 25 2025, 03:42 PM) Anyone up for Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Probably should check out the 1st season of TV anime adaptation to see if it's something you'd like, it's a bit on the weird & unexpected side and definitely not family-friendly/kid-friendly, but it's one of the best manga of current modern era IMO.More length friendly at 110 minutes hahahaha I never heard of this manga before other than the traditional top 4 manga adapted to screen like DS JK DBZ and Naruto Seems like anime invasion is real not just America but globally |
