Be careful with what your wish for biggrin.gif
ERU is a place where you need to solve your problem about subject adding & registration. Everything about subject go knock their door.

Yeap this form. Do I have to go to ERU to acquire this form? Or do I have to inquire from my lecturer?

Guys, Im in the last semester of Beta year, it is obvious that many of the students faced the online subject registration problem. Here's the thing I realize since yesterday, MMU opened the registration earlier for the new the intake students. To my surprise, I dont know FOM did this purposely or just PURE accident, the system actually recognize the student's online registration based on their ID. For my batch of students, the ID starts with 110XXXXX, whereas the new students have ID starts with 112XXXXXX. As I have many friends from June intake and this October intake, they did not seem to have problem at all. More surprisingly, my June intake friends who are considered to be OLD students already GOT all the subject they wanted even though the ONLINE SYSTEM showed class section FULL. The bulletin always posted announcement saying MMU had to be fair to new intake student, yet the old students couldnt register properly. I planned my timetable 4 times, it was ok because when it came to MMU, I know I should not demand much already. But the thing is even though I manage to plan a terrible timetable, I COULD NOT register all the subjects. I am following the course structure and Im taking 4 years degree. When will I be able to graduate if this happens again and again in the future? FOM pushed us to do manual registration by getting the signature from the lecturers, yet the lecturers say they do not want to accept any more students. But, we are FOM student and following the course structure, FOM does not seem to bother our problem, FOM staff merely scolds us and ends everything with the lecturers ''have to sign no matter what'' and asks us to leave. Again, the lecturer will just scold and kick us out of the office.
So, my question is if FOM doesnt solve the problem, and MMU has limited resources(limited lecturers to teach), why does MMU keep on accepting new students? Then, with the limited space, old students are blocked from registering, news students take all the place? If you think I make up the whole story, I should tell you that, there are TWO online links that direct you to the registration of course. New students are using the second link, in which the system was opened for registration many days before our old student's registration. Our old ID can never get accessed through the second link, made specially for new ID student. Old students can only use the first link to register and the system show FULL all the time. New students have the special right, when the class sections are full, they are able to get the VIP seats by STILL registering that slots.
Im not here to blame, I just wish to know that in your experience, does this always happen? or does it happen only to my batch, and will it continue to happen to us in the future? If you know something about this and if you think Im wrong please correct me, so atleast I know MMU is not that terrible. I met my advisor yesterday because I have made up my mind to quit MMU(if you think Im too emotional), I know every university will have the management problem, but what I mind so much is that, other majors can take up to 8 subjects. And we? We can only register 5 subjects. Course structure allows us to take 6 anyway. The lecturers kick us, FOM does not bother our problem, ERU emphasizes the need of getting the stamp and signature from FOM. I am already extending 1 semester just because MMU blocked my batch of students from taking extra subject. My batch was all naive last time, we did not know what did it mean when FOM allowed us to take only 1 subject. Therefore, we never went for complain. Here's the problem, if FOM did not open subject for us, and asked us to follow june intake when our batch was march intake, why does fom open march intake? Why not just open June intake and could have asked us to wait for that June intake, instead of binding us in MMU? So far, MMU is planning to keep all the new stundets to make more money and FOM does not seem to allow the old student to take more subjects. This is the only conclusion I can make to explain everything. I hope I am wrong anyway. As I said earlier, I am in my 3rd semester of Beta year, meaning that I have experienced this 3 situation times. This is my 3rd time.. I dont think MMU has the right channels for students like us to voice out our mind, if you think yes and there are many, then you are wrong. I myself can name some of them, but will they help us? We tried and nothing happened. Do you expect us to do this again and again? No way, Im here to study. If tried once, twice and thrice and the attempts did not change a thing, then it isnt our problem for not trying harder. Perhaps changing university is the correct initiative. MMU is focusing on getting more and more students, with so few lecturer, the seats are reserved to the news students. And old students are being pushed aside, MMU knows that we are bound to stay in MMU because it knows that we have wasted some years in MMU and nobody is willing to quit MMU just like that. We will get nothing if doing so. As a result, we are taking all these problems. I went to meet my advisor about the procedure of quitting MMU. My advisor said my decision was unwise and asked me to stay instead. I insisted that I wanted to quit but my advisor was very patient and did not tell me anything about quitting stuff. So, if you happen to know the procedures of quitting MMU, please roughly tell me. I will discuss with my family. Thanks

Try typing in paragraphs, its easier to read.

Actually, existing students' registration period starts way before our final exam. Probably the subjects' slots are full from that time. I don't know about the priority given to New Intake students, but I can see that MMU is not planning well. They're taking in students without considering their subjects' slots.

Do me a favor and blast the management. Try ur last shot by going to the FOM office and tell them ur difficulty about lecturers are not signing and FOM is pushing responsibility. Then, demand a solution or else, u would quit and send an email to medias/mmu president. That should trigger something.

i suggest you to complain directly in their face, writing your story here it just can help you to release your stress, won't help much. One thing that we can't deny is that MMU's management is really bad and not only FOM, same goes to other faculty..

Flash90, as you noticed, old students should have registered all the subject the semester earlier, during the period of final exam(or during the study break). Yet, the old students, waited endlessly we could not register a thing. We should be able to register those subjects according to the registration schedule. Many of us waited and waited, then 1 or 2 days had past. Yet, we only got the announcement from the bulletin board saying that, the following subjects cannot be registered because ''MMU has to be fair to the March/June/October intake students.'' If so, why wasn't there a slightly earlier announcement made about this? We waited and waited. Study break or final exam was the most busy moment, many of us went back to hometown, we had to rely on calling the office to clarify the problem. Otherwise, we would just have to wait for the late announcement for 2 days and it was for nothing.
And to answer your doubt, the slots were not full, FOM simply didnt want us to register. FOM did not open the subjects for the existing students until the new students are enrolled. The thing is, things always come easy for the new students, why? From the announcement, it mentioned that the system for the registration of the following subjects will be opened on October 19, 2012 at 3pm. I personally went to the registration page at 2.30pm. To my horror, the system has already opened! I did not even know when it started to open. I missed out the slots I wanted and replanned my timetable. In other words, 3pm is not the exact time for all the students, is this even fair? The existing students are only able to take the slots leftover.

The timetable Im using now is the 4th one with 6 hours of gap(This is a small matter since my concern is education/being able to study). The excuse given by FOM was as easy as ''to be fair to new intake student''. If you need proof, kindly drop by the FOM counter, have a look at the notice posted on there, and read the slogan-''to be fair to new intake student.'' The announcement is a a print page obtained from the bulletin.

Added on October 25, 2012, 9:33 amMr TeddyBear, I guess you are focusing on the wrong point. Im here to gain the suggestions from others about the procedure of quitting MMU. Im not being here in an attempt of making MMU to remedy the problem. And yes for the many words I have written, Im just to release my stress as you already realize. And if my memory still serves me right, I already say that Im not gonna take any action pertaining this issue. MMU needs nobody to tell them how to do stuff, there is no need for me to write a proposal or something. I am just a student back to the subject. I have done whatever I can, telling MMU what to do is really a waste of time. I fought with the FOM people yesterday, that was the 2nd time I did it. If they are taking steps to correct the problem, I wouldnt have fought with the staff. Bringing the issue to the higher level will take longer and will be much harder than it seems to be. Respectfully, if you think that other faculties' management is terrible, then I would say that you are not a FOM students. smile.gif No offense.
Thanks for the replies. They make me feeling lighter now.

1. Please learn how to type in paragraph.

2. Subject registrations are opened long before the new sem. Priority has always been to seniors.

3. Number of credit hours differs from faculty to faculty as it has to meet MOHE/MQA/EAC requirements.

4. Number of slots has always been according to the projected no of students. Problems arise when student fail and has to retake or start deviating from structure. This trimester, too many failure/barring cases so the no surged.

5. To quit study, you need to fill up a form and get your AA and dean to sign, if i am not mistaken.

Added on October 25, 2012, 9:39 amI dont know why but FOM has always been the problematic one.
