QUOTE(tapirus @ Nov 30 2012, 04:23 PM) I want to ask. Can endi comm with gars? What is nice setup(economy) for me as a newbie.. Really poison look all of your fish.. Yes, AFAIK they can comm without probs. The only issue is gars quite aggressive when it comes to feeding time. If the feeding is basically on feeder fishes (as in my case), most probably gars will finish all the fishes before Endi can get any of them. The solution, as in my fren's case, he feeds the bottom dwellers with prawns (dead or alive lol) and sometimes, meats. I'm lucky that my arowana doesnt take feeder fishes (except occasionally when he's too hungry, maybe). So most of them goes to bichirs belly *Nice siggy u hv there. Proudly gunners fan here also. QUOTE(tapirus @ Nov 30 2012, 05:32 PM) Oooo.. Nice info... What about to setup tank? 3.5feet is enough? Bichirs and especially Gars grow very fast. U'd want as biggest tank as u can afford. Furhter reading here : http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/predatory/gars.phpQUOTE In aquariums gars are quite demanding and require a lot of space and clean water. I recommend you to use as big a tank as you can for your gar, and I wouldn’t recommend keeping gars in an aquarium smaller then 200 Gallon/720 L. And that should be considered a minimum, a 400 gallon/1400 L tank should be preferred. Feet to gallon conversion : L x H x D x 7.481 = Gallon US. So a normal six footer should get about 180 gallons of water. 6 x 2 x 2 x 7.481 = 179.5 gallons.

QUOTE(LuQEE @ Dec 1 2012, 10:46 AM) after 2 weeks of experimenting:» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « my conclusion: 1)the 0.5 µm is nice, giving the best water clarity, but having to change it after every 3 days is tiring, if not, you will put alot of load/stress to your pump(in my case, my cannister filter) due to it is easily clogged by small particles and making your water flowrate looks like a trickling rat piss. 2) the 20++µm(?) is good, give the average water polishing quality, but will eventually be less effective after 5-7 days due to its pad have been used up and become clogged. But the goodthing about it, even though you leave it more than a week or 2(like my case), the water flow will not decrease but it will just pass thru those filters and out into the tank itself. so no stress load will effect your pump. Win Win situation for me.
any comments? will try to experiment with another type of filter pads this month Whoa.. u really serious into this kind of filtration system. My experience with cannister filter, really hard to maintain cuz its very heavy, and we have to open the lid up to clean the medias, one by one. So i gave up on cannister filter for now, although i still keep it well. Pic : Guys, i just stumbled on this pic from this http://www.greenlake.com.my/home.htm. Does anyone know this company? Finally a quarantine tank for feeder fishes. Before this i used to stock them in turtle tank, to realize that the condition didnt suit the little fellas well. But i still keep a few strong ones to accompany my turtle (and cleaning his shell as well ) Notice in the 2nd pic, the fishes are in poor shape, too skinny. No wonder many got stuck in sump filter if i just transfer them from shop to predator tank straightaway. So i think raising them a while could do good, u know, stuff them with good foods and better condition. Beside the turtle tank (4 x 3 x 2 feet temporary tank). The known benefit of keeping ur stuffs well, is that u always can get to it anytime in future. I just re-unboxed my old waterfall hanging filter + used plastic ware + old plastic plants.

I started from childhood, my mom set our 1st aquarium up when i was still very young. Everytime i quit, i will think of starting over again after seeing other ppl's fish

QUOTE(kakarocht @ Dec 4 2012, 10:32 PM) bump I tot Son Goku Kakarocht would say KAME HAME HA instead of bump. lol Bro if u dont mind, whats ur collection for now? Have u had flowerhorns before? Quite an experience for me before. I named him Marko (with k instead of c). The guy used to eat from my hand. He was an eating machine, i feed him variable pellets n dried krills. Miss the good old time with him * Note : Later when he reached adulthood, i noticed that 'he' is a 'she'. So i changed the name to 'Markonah' instead. lol This post has been edited by antzz: Dec 4 2012, 10:55 PM

QUOTE(happy_shopper @ Dec 10 2012, 10:25 PM) Oh man i cant believe it I OWN THIS FISH NOWWWW!!!! think its only once in my life time » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « At the aquarium: At my home: Healthy, active and eating. Still thinking a name for him/her. Really headache. And he is very gentle with a smiley face always when it stares at you. Anyone can tell me how to identify its gender? More pictures coming soon, i could just sit there for hours looking at it. *Bought from local licensed fish stores not from illegal importer. And its better to buy licensedly this fish is cheaper than obtaining it illegally. At least save you 2k and up from my experience. I heard their reproduction organs are hidden inside their body, and other physical features are much alike for both sexes, so its hard to tell the sex. Further reading : http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1995-09...quarium-workersBut hey, u can still name him/her with a 'gender neutral' name, to be safe Anyway its an amazing fish. Good catch there buddy Mind to share the size and price?
