Top filter is starting to become inadequate for my big shitters too. gonna keep on reading what u pros post and consider them biggrin.gif
*
if your budget tight to get those external filters (ready made) why don't you diy it like what i did? save cost as well and most important is patient needed when goes for diy. brows.gif

can~ how much for one as powerful as Eheim's paling power?
how many L, how much capacity?
*
powderful is depending on your setup and your pump as well. since you're using 4 feet aquarium just get 4 tier will do size depends on you whether you wan s,m,l,xl or xxl. the 4 tier is depends on you where you wan to put either top of the aquarium or side. if top make sure you measure properly b4 buying the 4 tier if you put the centre cos i sked the load only dunno your aquarium can hold the load or not if put the top centre.

If my trickle filter just use foams, might be ok.
Now need to discard the blue cover. So, have to think of diy cover to prevent
kamikaze birchirs and cichlid.  nod.gif
*
can you post your aquarium pic ka for top (1st aquarium without covers) and bottom (2nd aquarium) from there can know whether can put the 4 tier or not whether is L/XL size.

Hi All,

I am wondering what fish is this called? Species? it's freshwater.

What Fish?
*
this fish kompom is the leaf fish aka Leopard Ctenopoma, Spotted Ctenopoma, Spotted Climbing Perch, Leopard Bushfish...but very sensitive fish towards water temperatures. Last time used to rear this fish (around 5 fishes) but all died not even 1 months. doh.gif

have. The usual type aquarium lor.
you have any idea how to make another cover?
*
for filteration you need to take the measurement for the 4/3 tier (length and width) in order to put on top of it. for the cover itself have no idea actually but depends on your preference what you want whether to put plain type of glass/arkelic to cover on top of it.

dah. the frame stands directly on the glass?
looks easy. but i might use whole day.
bad carpentry...
*
no need all you can do it get proper measurements and ask the carpenter to do it. from there you can know what you want actually. better still used your imagination on the layout if you wan to design using the woods types.. brows.gif

Still thinking..of course lar..lack of common  sense  tongue.gif
The frame itself is broader so meaning the wood is standing on the glass itself?

Added on November 27, 2012, 2:13 pmbetulkah you sell your diy canister to me?
Or i also need to buy direct from China?
*
yup. if you refer the redtube itself it is standing type. the diy canister i made is for fun only la. so far has no problem for the issues such as leaking lo. just the matters of preference requirement ->
-> tank size
-> types of media (sponge, bio balls etc)
-> size and measurement of the filter (3 tier/4 tier/ 5 tier) also depends on your media filter as well - the more media filters you put the more tiers you need hence i worry your filter is like bungalow house so you need to used the chair to check or changed the filters. laugh.gif
-> you need to measure your tank (from the centre itself in order to put the canister). Don't worry the cannister is very the light nia without the media filters not like Eheim which is very heavy without media filters. brows.gif
-> you need to check your submersible pump also whether can used/support pvc types or not. Don't worry most of the submersible pump do support pvc which already comes with pvc head unless you're using the power head (cheap type) then need to burn the pvc in order to stick it.
-> mine is not suitable your tanks cos i do is for 2-3 feet aquarium actually cos is medium size.

If my lower tank needs a filter by its side. Not top not bottom..what filter will it be?
Canister on the floor or on a stool or on a chair?
*
stool or chair will do. just like i did for my 3 tier. but make sure your pump is strong enough must used the submersible pump where the nozzle is pointing from top. brows.gif

it wont work without the overflow box. Hence if u use direct pipe inlet to filter, once the pump power cuts off the water will over flow from the tangki. So this is where the overflow box comes in. It helps to maintain and block water level from overflowing even if the pump is not working. There is only one pump in this system.
Check this video. It's somehow similar to the one below. Just mine is a simple version. The reason for all this trouble is mainly because i can't drill hole in my tank. The overflow box is mainly to solve this issue for sub tank filter system.

*
oic get it. cos mine also do similar but without the box like wat you used. cos i'm using the polytank and fibretank. the next project will do is aquaphonic. reasons is lazy to change water and etc wan to cut cost. only few things haven't get it actually such as river rocks. laugh.gif

Whoa.. u really serious into this kind of filtration system. My experience with cannister filter, really hard to maintain cuz its very heavy, and we have to open the lid up to clean the medias, one by one. So i gave up on cannister filter for now, although i still keep it well. Pic :
