Any places with good exchange rates in PJ ?
*
All PJ/Subang Sunway & Puchong Money changers are suxx...damn expensive (Esp those in the curve)...The best &still the best wth the smallest rate differential between buy & sale are the 2 competing money changers located at the LG -Mid centre court nxt to LG level San Franscisco coffee

OK..Just found out that wawasan money changer (The one in basement Ctr Court Mid Valley) is having a webiste:

http://www.wawasanmoneychanger.com.my/exchangeRates.asp

Cool now everyone here can use this as the benchmark.....For sure no other place that I hv checked even from Port Klang/PJ/Puchong & KL having such pricing......the bad thing about them- Parking rate RM3 at Mid Valley during weekend & probably distance/toll/petrol going there... sad.gif

change some thai baht last month at 10.45 for 100bath. used credit card to buy levis jeans at bkk, when the mastercard statement comes, the rate turns out to be cheaper @ 10.39 only. My advice... use credit card rather than change too much foreign note.

forgot to mention, i change at mid-valley, the best rate in town. and also, if u're going to bkk, u can change at SUper Rich green colour over there..  almost the same or even better than mid valley.

Oh OK... blush.gif Nevertheless I do notice that using CC in oversea sometime cheaper...especially when there is great fluctuation of that currency after exchanging in M'sia.

BTW, For those hate the que at Wawasan & MV at Midvalley, can try Sunway Pyramid money changer located at Makaresh new wing....can't remember the name but it's inside one of the convenience store. The published rate is abit higher than Wawasan but once u negotiate wth them and asking Wawasan rate. they do accept thumbup.gif ..Also those money changers surrounding Port Klang & Klang can also negotiate using Wawasan as benchmark.. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(shenzhou7 @ Nov 12 2008, 10:31 AM)
sure i know...  wawasan sentosa.. and the rate is usually better late afternoon compared to morning.

the rate in bkk is great if u go to super rich green colour, dun go to bank la.. sure will suck your blood. And mastercard is good.... hehe........

Yeah..Wawasan although cheap but they dun cary small denomination...Abit piss off wth them bcos of this....What I did during my last visit to Macau is go to the nearest bank located in the airport & ask for small change...they do entertain my request to my surprise thumbup.gif shocking.gif
QUOTE(estara @ Jan 9 2009, 12:59 PM)
Wawasan or MV Forex in Mid Valley. And also the one in Sungei Wang, at ground floor I think...don't remember the name...best rate?

Anyway does anyone know if I can change 1000 Thai Bhat to smaller denominations at KLIA(where?) or Suvarnabhumi Airport? The money changer didn't wanna give me smaller notes(or don't have).

Yes. They are the cheapest currently but there are few or more that can match him. I found out another Money Changer in Sg Wang Plaza (Not the one recommended by others here) located in the mid row of LG level. (Libra Jaya). Their rate actually exactly the same as Wawasan. (I compare Wawasan rate b4 going there y'day to change US$.

The advantage of Libra Jaya compare to Wawasan is they allow changing to smaller denomination. Even if u ask for smaller US$1 notes, they will give!! This is not the case in Wawasan...always give big denomination!! So for those wanted similar rate to Wawasan but needs smaller denomination....Sg Wang Libra Jaya is another alternative...(This round I din chk the money changer closer to the entrance. Previously they are pretty expensive compare wth Libra...)

QUOTE(awan_kelabu @ Feb 20 2009, 11:47 AM)
is wawasan sentosa still the best money changer around?

1) Most of us refer to this one...It's one of the cheapest (probabaly the cheapest) Money changer in Malaysia & rates much better than Banks.:
http://www.wawasanmoneychanger.com.my/exchangeRates.asp

& yes the rate changes everyday! but not realy by minutes, that's are for forex traders

2) Buy meaning they buy from you & sell meaning there are selling to you. So if u are changing RM1000 to USD at buy=3.595 & sell=3.615, u will be expecting to get 1000/3.615 =US$276.60.

SO if u decided to change you mind & change back to RM, they willo buy back at RM3.595 =RM994.40 ..Meaning the diff of RM5.623 is their commission/margin...pretty small indeed...

So if u see the spread between buy/sell is huge, the money changer is reaping huge profit!!

3) Based on my limited knowledge (Correct me if I'm wrong), Forex trading is only in selected licensed houses (Normally banks) & sanction by Bank Negara (Not usre SC involve). So you buy/sell via them..The best we as public is buy/sell at money changers...haha..or some form of bank deposit in foreign currency...I bet those saving in Aussie/New Zealand $$ will be crying out now..

In this case, it's all depending on the amount you're going to change..anyway the diff between RM3.50 & another RM3.70 cannot be so great!! Normally differences only about RM0.05 to RM0.10 among money changers. & those quoted higher than Wawasan Money changers, u can actually bargain wth them by showing them Wawasan rate for that date.

For me the distance does matter & thus, normally i used Wawasan rate & telling those Money changers in Puchong (Within 5km from my hse) that I wanted the closest to that rate..and suprisingly they willing to match...probably RM0.02 higher than wawasan...win-win no need go so far to Wawasan or Sg Wang Plaza

I will be going Taiwan end of the year & all the rate offered by local exchange & wawasan so horrible! RMM11.10-RN11.30 whereas, BNM & others quoted midian rate of RM10.50-RM10.70...haizzz.....need vkeong kor-kor to reserve some for me liao..

Depending, just do some research by googling current market rate & comnpoare wth wawasasn sentosa mioney changer rate..(As posted by joeylyn)...if rate bad, just change in HK. using yen.

Just like Taiwan, vietnamese dong & peso Phillipine..Not worth changing in malaysia bcos rate so bad...easier to change 1st to US$ & thereafter change at the respective country...(Not all hor...)

agak-agak only-lah..money changer for sure need to survive via commission but sometime dsue to lack of demand on certain currency, the commission here in Malaysia really siao-siao wan...normally i fthye rate too out from market, I will change a bulk of it to USD 1st & thereafter to the country currency when I reached. I only can a smalll amount of ~RM100 to that currency for emergency purposes only.

just do abit of homework...

Added on November 9, 2009, 2:48 pmcertain currency that are badly traded in malaysia is not RM1 or RM2 diff.even at RM0.50 diff is also a lot dy if u are converting >RM1,000..for eg..let say avg RM1=USD3.5, but the money changer asking for RM4

if u change RM1000, u lost almost RM40 liao. well if u change RNM2000, u lost RM80 & so on...

so it's up to u, certain ppl dun mind the RM40/RM1000 but certainm ppl do...but when u face wth problem for eg...Vietnam dong not all changer wanted to change, and once u find one, the xchange rate diff between market is so huge...I remember RM1=8000 vietnamese dong early last year but getting from money changer here, RM1= 5000 dong..You lost 3000 dong straight away!!
