Hi... I'm confused abt these...
If I change the HDD to SSD, which the panel will be opened, will this consider as breaking the warranty?
I see many people add their RAM to more GB, that will need to open the panel to insert the RAM too. So, that is also consider as breaking the warranty?
Thank you...
Brands put "stickers" on important components. Basically this will help their technician to see if users has tinkled with the hardware.
So if user break the "seal / sticker", warranty is void. So the important thing is if user want to do any DIY upgrade, make sure don't break the "seal / sticker" all over the place

Fortunately, most brands don't put stickers on RAM slot or HDD place. Nevertheless, proceed with caution, and you should be fine

A lot of re-sellers will help too.

hi,
1. Budget: around RM 2100
2. Spec: Gaming Normal
3. prefer 15inch screen
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + AMD HD7730M@RM2199, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional, W7HP/W8
or
any other recomendation about this price range.
Added on December 15, 2012, 4:18 pmwhen will lenovo y400 come into malaysia. will the price high then y480 or lower then y480?
Other than the 15R SE you list:
15"
Lenovo
Ideapad Z580, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7HB, white
You have more options with 14" at your price point. Btw, if 15" and 14" has the same HD (1366X768) screen resolution, you see the same image on screen, just bigger
Y400 is already in Malaysia

Btw, it is 14".
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD
Please note this price does not include the ultrabay GPU, which is expected to be released some time in 2013.

1. Preferred Brand: Dell (I heard Dell LCD got problem?)
2. Budget: RM1.5k-2k
3. Usage: University student, writing report, doing assignments, surfing, gaming such as maplestory, minecraft, can be used for at least 4 years.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 or 15
14"
Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8
Inspiron 14z, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1799[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, *no VGA port, OD (this one is lot less powerful than the other 2 listed here, but it is lighter, has better battery performance, and good enough for your listed usage)
15"
Inspiron 15R, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM1899[2.65kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8
Price is RSP, negotiable, even if you buy online. Just online chat with as many sales agent as you can to get the best deal. Make sure you extend the warranty to 3 years, then anytime when hardware has problem, just call Dell, and their technician will fix it for you at your home within couple of days. (So what if the LCD got problem?)

1. Preferred Brand:any
2. Budget:<1600rm
3. Usage:asgment,presentation,movie,surfing(ipt student)
4. the most important things:light, thin, long batery life and powerful
4. (Light, thin, long battery performance) and powerful usually don't go hand in hand, unless your budget is a lot higher
Since you don't mention screen size, I hope 14" is still good for you:
Acer
V5-471G-33214G50, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT620M@RM1799[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7HP
Asus
K46CM-WX060V, B987 + Nvidia GT630M@RM1799[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD
K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD
Dell
Inspiron 14z, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1599[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu Linux 11.10, *no VGA port, OD
Inspiron 14z, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1799[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, *no VGA port, OD
HP
Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b012TU/b008TU, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1799[1.8kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 4 cell 37WHr, no ODD, black/red
Price is RSP, negotiable. Basically, you are looking for i3-3xxxU + Intel HD4000 type of combination. If this is still a bit over your budget, then you need to look at Intel B9xx + HD3000 type of combination (since you want light and thin and long battery performance)

Preferred brand: ASUS or
LENOVOBudget: Below
RM1999Usage: Presentation, video, music, internet, casual gaming
Screen size: 13.3" or
14"Preferred laptop: What I need is real
Portability! Because I do always on outdoor/travel all the time so I need some light weight & long battery life. I have some choice on my list but need some suggestion from Sifus around here!
a) LENOVO U310 I3-3217 4GB 320GB INTEL 13.3" W7HB PINK, BLUE & GREY
b) ASUS U32U-RX024V E450 2GB 500GB ATI 13.3" W7HP 10 HOURS BATT
c) ASUS K46CM-WX060V B987 2GB 500GB NVIDIA 2GB 14" W7HP SLIM
d) SAMSUNG NP535U3C-A01 A6-4455M 4GB 500GB ATI 13'3" W7HP ULTRATHIN / BROWN
If you guys have better one, suggest me! Thanks!Â

a) lots of complaint on buggy wireless performance.
b) This is using AMD E series (an old one as well, newer is E2-1800) CPU, which is about Intel Atom level of performance (like Netbook). Battery performance is good, but make sure you are ok with the overall CPU / GPU performance.
c) not bad
d) Not the best in terms of battery performance.
Suggestion:
Acer 14"
V5-471P, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000 + (1366x768; touch)@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB, W8
Asus 14"
K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD
Dell 13"
Vostro 3360, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM2009[1.67kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze (not sexy, but screen is matte (good for outdoor), and warranty is good)
14"
Inspiron 14z, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1799[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, *no VGA port, OD
Lenovo
S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; W8@RM2199
Price is RSP, negotiable.
Generally, Intel HD 4000 will make presentation run smoother than HD3000 and below (hence the i3/i5-3xxxU CPU).
Intel B9xx actually is running at 35W, which is more power hungry than i3/i5-3xxxU which is running at 17W.
If you want the absolute best in battery performance, then Intel Atom or AMD E series is your best bet, but these are normally found in smaller form factor (12.5" or below).
Since you travel and do presentation, make sure the laptop you get have the neccesary VGA port for older projector models or you will need a port converter to be safe.
