Well, i used the search function on the forum and return with no result, so i suppose i can start this topic then? tongue.gif
I know time flies and technology grows, but heck, i ain't rich so i am using the ATI Radeon 9600XT and pretty satisfied with what i got. So, anymore proud owner of this AGP card? Please share your ups and downs with us, OC tips maybe? Cooling kits for this card too? biggrin.gif thumbup.gif

The actual speeds from ATi is 500MHz core speed and 300MHz memory speed. But they are many different speeds from manufacturers....

what is the point talking about outdated graphic card? isnt 9600XT become fosil already?
*
Well, no offence, but if you feel there is no point talking about outdated graphic card then why you come in here? This topic is dedicated to the 9600XT users who want to exchange their view on their card. With all respect not all of us can keep up with the latest card, some of us are still using "fosil". So is it wrong that we are discussing our "fosil" here? I think you should learn how to respect others.

Currently I do satisfy with my Asus 9600xt vivo
Bought it last year RM700.
Ya. Is really a outdate card. I do not a very heavy gamer. But all good game I will take a try. Basically this card still able to let us run all the game in basic mode. I still can playing what ever game which i think i want. Just the effect not that much only. Is not point to change to pci card and the the motherboard and processor just to let u view more shadow or light in the game. If the game is really a good game, you would not really have time to give attendance to all those tiny shine image. If not really seeing it during gaming, no point to invest also. Spend so much for graphic card just to play a game is not a game, Is a graphic demo. Doom3 is a good example. Graphic pretty but game mode suck. what point ? HEHE, by the way 9600xt still able for us to play FEAR, seeing those ghost. sufficient for all. dont follow the technology blindly. U are not printing money. Is not proud stuff to spend so much buying a expensive card to play a game and come to forum here show off. If compare, If you able to configure your Gforce4 to run doom3, that is really a proud stuff to show off. Fully utilize is smart man.

me still using powercolour 9600XT 128mb bravo edition. The default speed is 513mhz/300mhz. Not a serious gamer, so this card serves me well for the past 2 years till now. it is really a good investment.
for my opinion, no point to swith to newer better card with AGP interface for now since PCI-E is the way to go, maybe would change everything on my next new PC.

Hm, I'm still using it though. Hoping to get an PCI card but gotta change the motherboard too. Sigh... Because I can't play some games, got this VPU Recover error. Kinda sux.

Nevertheless, it had and still a good card after 2 years of using it.

The 2600+ T-bred A was on stock clock of 2127mhz. The 9600XT slightly OC with ATI Tool to core 513 mem 335. Can still go higher.

9600XT stopped production when 9550 came out. It's based on old DDR technology. Some more high timing low clock speed DDR. How to compare with DDR2 9550 that still in production today? Want to compare can compare with 9550 DDR based or underclock the mem of DDR2 to 325. But the DDR on today's 9550 also clock higher and better timing.

Using a Gecube 9600XT Extreme Edition. Probably the worst card I've used. Gave me lots of problems..AGP can only run at 4x. Even though I jacked up the AGP voltage up to run at 8x and with AGP Fast Write enabled, lock-ups still occur in-game even with the current Catalyst version lol..
And yea I got the same problem as weirdguy, VPU error message pops up if I tried to run AGP 8x before Catalyst 6.1 anyway.

I am beginning to wonder if this card is actually compatible with my motherboard. I've flashed my mobo bios to a later ver. still doesnt help fix these problems =\

Specs are-
Asus A7V8x
AthlonXP Palomino 2000+

Graphic card and mobo not compatible ? laugh.gif

If the card has no problem it maybe not compatible with your mobo la. On my system never give problem. AGP8X, Fast write, Sideband addressing all can on can OC also. Never have to do any voltage tweak.

I'm using Asus a9600XT for a couple of month now, bought from one of the forumer. I'm happy with this card performance as I'm seldom play game. But just yesterday, I want to try the VIVO video-in conection with my digital camera, but can't get any picture. I use the lastest ATi catalyst from ATi website. Anyone have try the VIVO? Can u use it? Do we need any other hardware/tools to use this function?

I try to uninstall and install with the driver from the CD, but still nothing happen. My comp can't detect any video capture or install the WDM Driver. Actually, I know nothing about this function. I try to conect the video-out to my tv, and the picture is very clear but when I connect with my dvd player or anyother player, nothin happen. I'm using Asus VCR come with the graphic but everytime I start the program, it show that I don't have any WDM hardware. What does it mean?

If the card has no problem it maybe not compatible with your mobo la. On my system never give problem. AGP8X, Fast  write, Sideband addressing all can on can OC also. Never have to do any voltage tweak.
*
Disable the Fast Write and the VPU recover thing and see got any improvement or not.

QUOTE(joenjill @ Mar 13 2006, 04:38 PM)
i might know the performance of new graphic card in market compare with 9600XT....
6600 is same quality with 9600XT~? how about 6600GT?
and the X1600??
*
6600 equal with a vanilla 9800 or 9800 pro. 9800xt and 6600gt is already in different league. wink.gif

used to have ge(X?)cube radeon 9600 xt game buster, 128mb, 128 bit. Excellent performance in hl2, sluggish frame rate in doom 3 games. Sold it and bought myself a geforce 6600gt. Same price as as the raddy a year before but has quadruple performance!

i'm not a 9600xt owner though.. but i wish to buy a second hand card from a forummer for around rm250.. no money to get good good graphic card.. sapphire ati9600xt 500/650 128mb, 128bit.. 2 years old card.. drool.gif

well my question is, can this card run games like prince of persia : two thrones, GTA : san andreas, FEAR, NFS : most wanted etc etc.. doesnt matter the quality of graphics, as long as can run in 1024 x 768 in mid quality will be fine.. can this card do it? flex.gif

Yeah, of course you can run those game (but of course, not maxed settings) as I used to have this card before changing to a new one. I've played FEAR, GTA:SA and NFS:MW with no problem (under 1024x768 res).
Mine is GeXcube's.

Having 9600XT quit some times now, it was great until Oblivion is out....

Anyway just wonder is 9600XT or Nvidia 6600Go better? Bit confuse cause the "Go" series is for mobile and seems no comparision between this 2.

yo

an Asus 9600XT 128Bit card user here.

suprised there is a thread like this.

anyhow. using the card for the past year and a half - went tru doom, HL2, NFSMW........and then came Oblivion.

what are the settings you guys use to make the card smooth sailing ah?

btw my card is stock 500/297. should i OC it a bit? will the performance better?

becoz of oblivion......itchy hands to change to a X1600 card. ada AGP version so i'm happy.

should i stay with this card or change?

Every card also is gold for some time period, but after that, they are just PCB boards which you attached on the computer (sometimes even just to keep in the box!!!). The technology market just has too high turn-over rate! rclxub.gif

i.ve been using my Sapphire 9600xt 256mb for like since mid 2004...it has been a chun card...no prob or anything. But last month, the small tiny cooling fan that comes with it stopped working, so i had to modify nad fix a casing fan below it, temp not bad, 40'c -42'c mostly.

now i am wondering, shall i jsut get a new agp card (not planning to change rest of my PC), mayb NVIDIA 6600 or 6600gt, or just stay with my card, get a new cooling system, and do some Overclocking?

That HIS 9550 iceQ Turbo 256MB DDR2 AGP version should be around RM270, try to get at Low Yat Plaza, You may try to ask from "C-Zone", I saw a lot of HIS-ATI IceQ Version Card selling there.

I'm still happy with my HIS 9600XT, getting at RM385 from PC-Zone Low Yat

recently i sold my old card to one forumer here.
according to him, the card do function, but he can't adjust the resolution to 1024x768 32bit.

Graphic card and mobo not compatible ? laugh.gif

i'm havin the same prob.. bought this card 2yrs ago when it first came out.. sent the card for RMA twice but they still said there was no prob with the card.. can't play any 3D games.. sent it for the 3rd time, they replaced a new card for me.. this time, it can play 3D games, but only at 4x.. it locks up at 8x..

can anybody tell me what is wrong?? i've used this with 3 diff. pcs (diff. mobos and procs), and it's still the same.. cry.gif

yup.. considered that too..

but, CM's CoolViva cools both sides of the card and so as TT's Extreme Giant III.. AC's ATi Silencer 2, Zalman's Fatal1ty FS-V7 and TT's TideWater only cools the GPU side of the card (correct me if i'm wrong) although, the Fatal1ty FS-V7 comes with extra ramsinks for the bga rams in the package.. biggrin.gif

some aftermarket coolers for your Radeon 9600XT.. rclxms.gif

1) ThermalTake TideWater Water Cooling System
2) ThermalTake Extreme Giant III
3) CoolerMaster CoolViva
4) Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7
5) Arctic Cooling ATi Silencer 2

guyz.. i've a question for anybody that is using the Omega drivers for their 9600XTG-C3 128MB..

i'm experiencing lock-ups rite now when i'm surfing, watching movie or just leaving it at idle.. it resets the drivers then the desktop icons, YM icons and even my avatar and title in LYN is blurred..

is it juz the drivers or my card is coming to the end of its life?? cry.gif

i found tat is using ATI official driver enter or exit windows is longer than omega driver.
last time i using my geforce , is really fast and i feel weird y after change to ati become slower , when shutdown the computer seen like no response.
my fren also face this problem , after tat i tried the omega driver , i love it ,
but the omega problem support multi monitor is not as catalyst.

this card is quiet ok for me , last time i using eagle 9550 , tat card is 250/200 default , max is 480/217 , so i need to clock it so wont feel lag in game.

but now change to this ddr2 version , wif default clock , heatsink , i can enjoy most of game today wif very smooth .

Done that too.

Btw if i unistall everything and boot without any driver, WinXP will run in 800x600 32bit.
If install Ati driver or Omega, it will only display 640x480 4 bit. Everytime when click Apply or Ok, the setting seems not save by display properties sad.gif

Win XP clean install and fully patch.

To me there is significant performance boost. u can select to install performance or quality driver when u install OmegaDriver. Performance driver is faster than original driver, Quality driver is same as original driver but it is tweaked to have better graphic quality.

a very sad day today... my 3yr old friend, my ATi Radeon 9600XTG-C3 passed away peacefully alongside its soulmate CM's CoolViva at 2:37am..

autopsy was conducted immediately and concluded that the core was chipped at the edge resulting in the early symptom of the unability to play 3D-Games..

the card was put to rest today at 3:00pm in its original box, sealed with an anti-static bag and kept on top of the 'hall-of-fame' cupboard together with its predecessors..

may u rest in peace..

same problem with mine.. u could try using Omega drivers (www.omegadrivers.net), that helped for me.. the worst thing is, u probably have a cracked or chipped core.. no probs with VIA chipset (should be more compatible actually).. cheers.. biggrin.gif

my proc is soooo yesterday. only celeron 2.4Ghz, ram is 512MB DDR...
if throw in a 9600XT, will the proc be the bottleneck and limit the performance of the GC? sad.gif

im using gigabyte radeon 9600xt 128bit 128mb,
gpu clock 500, mem clock 300,
auto-overclocked to 550/310 when start 3D game/applications.
running at 4x agp mode coz my intel motherboard(845grg) only support 4x agp.
bought around 2004 april at rm 600 shakehead.gif
but bundled with some games.

i bought this gc bcos the build in intel graphic processor always resart my comp when i play dungeon siege tongue.gif
this card still ok if dun max out the quality settings like antialiasing and anisoptropic filtering tongue.gif
still can play some of old game like nfs mostwanted, call of duty 2, dungeon siege 2, doom3, quake 4, splinter cell: chaos theory and so on, but with low/meduim quality setting.

never have any problem with it except sometime the fan will become very noisy.

i dun mind the CPU run at 100% la tongue.gif it's 2yrs old already. not planning to use it for another 2yrs anyway tongue.gif

currently i just bought a geforce FX5500, doesn't meet my requirement. gonna sell it and buy 9600XT. so... how much will my proc bottleneck the performance?

let's say i wanna play BF2142? @ low or medium setting?

I'm using a GeCube 9600XT 256MB for quite some time, (~2-3yrs forgor liao) I would agree, pretty good card, unless u wan to try play general using all high setting lol.

However lately its having some problem lo, starting is whenever play warcraft some "tearing" will happen lo, u will see the display suddenly at 1 spot like kena tear.

Then lately cannot play 3d game liao T.T coz the tear become more serious T.T.

So i planning to change to gc, preferable PCIe type, any good recommend?

6800xt is nVidia card.
and XT from nVidia means lower-end. XT from ATi means higher-end.

9600XT and 6800XT price difference is less than RM10.
6800XT DDR1 is RM60 cheaper than 7300GT DDR3, as from the bulk order session by Devilc0de

so... which one should i go for eh? does the performance difference between 6800XT and 7300GT worth the RM60?

I would say go for 7300GT, GT higher in Nvidia and it's in ddr3. I had lit regret after i bought 6800XT. After 2 week i bought 6800XT, some bulk just start sell 7300GT sweat.gif

If you compare 6800XT to 9600XT, i would say 6800XT still a winner cos 6800XT support SM3.0 and 256Bit. 9600XT is kinda old card. No offend here. My frie got that card since it first came out and bundled half-life2. It's a great card but lack of those goodies, eg SM3.0/HDR. Most game use SM3.0 nod.gif

i also hav the same thought. if compare between 9600xt and 6800xt, i would take 6800xt. if 6800xt and 7300gt, surely will take 7300gt. newer card support newer directx shader and functions. and higher resell value too.

I need help here. Just got the Dell 24" widescreen with my Asus 9600XT. But I can't seem to use the full resolution 1920x1200, the screen will freeze/hang in an all black screen.

Cannot off the LCD at all. Have to pull the power cable and plug in again. It will be ok for a while but will happen again in less than 30 seconds.

Now using 1440x900 without the problems. Does this means the 9600XT cannot handle ar? Or could it be my Abit BD7's AGP 4x slot? Please help. cry.gif

According to the specification given on the website... 96xt should be able to support the resolution u needed for ur 24" native. Try update ur driver and see if that fix the problem unsure.gif
