no need to call ppl ridiculous one. to each is own and it depends on where u stand. i suppose. in this discussion we are looking at the middle class and above only. but if you are in the 5k per month range i suppose, they would feel more of a pinch to maintain a car. but in more developed nations where there is minimum wage and the difference in wage gap may be smaller, owning and maintaining a car may be more difficult as opposed to just taking public transport.
in my opinion , car ownership is cheap. i cannot say about public transport because the last time i was on public transport was in 1998, taking the KTM commuter to class during my college days. even when travelling to places like singapore, bangkok, or hong kong where ( i hear they have fantastic public transport ) i have never taken.... cos i got 3 kids... and better to take taxi.
i drive a 4x4 to work. a passat when i am not going to the office and a 1994 2jz supra for when i feel like burnin rubber.
none are high end cars and i dont think i could be in this situation if i were overseas...... unless in an african or south american nation...... but what do i know.. i only lived overseas for 5 years driving old clunkers during my uni days.
