Need advice from you guys again. My logitech Z-5500's satelite speakers just died. All chipped and rotted away, truly heartbreaking. Sigh so many years of faithful service.

Anyway, need a recommendation for 5.1 Speaker set. Desk space/aesthetics do not matter. It will be connected to both a TV and a PC, so it's for a gaming and home theater setup. Hopefully it's got enough bass to rumble the walls smile.gif.

Budget's at RM2,000. Can consider if it's a little higher.

Thanks!

so overall, how you rate 1900t3?

I am also 'feel guilty' when wanna buy speaker more than 500... haha...

I am also looking for speaker to replace my RM26 logitech speaker...

at first, i am looking for

1. Edifier C3 (err... maybe that shop don't know how to 'set' the speaker... it's better than my Rm26 little bit.... rclxub.gif )
2. Edifier E25 (sexy in red... brows.gif but that time selling is RM699, and need order...)
3. Edifier S530D (my local store no selling, need order as well and exclude shipping yet....)
4. Edifier R2500/2700/2800 (tooooo big.... my darling wanna kill me already...btw...i got chance to test the R2700....SO disappointed... voice packed by plastic bag???)
5. Hivi 1010, 1080, M50W, MK2..... (almost paste order for M50W/1080-4,...but...say if lost or damage....no insure....  .. so if i really go for these guys... ask my friend bring back to me)
6. Thonet & Vander - Kugel .... also almost order already... (btw...my little angel ask me hold on.... )
7. ....finally right now look at Edifier R1280T, R1900T3.... (guilty + ... )

if R1900T3 really good enough...then just go for this guy...

I think out of 5, I will rate 3. Actually it's 4 but due to some misunderstanding, I paid about RM500 for this speaker including shipping to Miri. And this is the main reason feel guilty is because IMO, over RM500 I will opt for hifi speaker. I know others will not agree. I won't describe too much about R1900Tiii because I just received her yesterday, so I think not yet fully burn in. For conclusion, R1900Tiii is good enough for me. The bass is on the same level with my ear, rather than placing subwoofer below desk. And since I venture into headfi, I spend less time for gaming so I appreciate accurate tight bass more than a house shaking powerful bass. In other word, my ear being picky so, gaming headphone and speaker suddenly sound bad. BTW, I'm powering this lady from my UD100.

I listened to C3 previously in a PC shop and I would get this if I can turn back time because it's way cheaper than SP2500. However the bass not as rumbling as Logitech Z623 which I dislike. C3 excellent in midrange but a bit bright and thin when compared to my SP2500. C3 excellent in music more than gaming and movie, and best bang for buck. But I admit, when watching movie or playing game, extra boom form the sub is a good thing. My testing source is phone and DAP along with improper set up and placement. What I like about C3 is appropriate price, medium size sub, and the best clarity within similar price or level for speakers that I ever heard.

Corsair SP2500 however better in gaming and movie due to the bigger sub and warmer sound from the satellite. I will say better treble than C3 but the speaker sub damn huge. laugh.gif About 20kg total man! Served me well when I gaming a lot last time, and sound more 3D like which make me confuse of the sound source, either it's my game or movie, or the noise from outside my house. Source is UD100. Another good thing about Corsair is the satellite doesn't distort or breaking when you blast it. I did once tried to max the volume but unlike other cheap speaker that I tried, I afraid that I will damage the tweeter etc. And, got a lot of EQ and program on the control pod. I know you're not interested but just sharing. biggrin.gif

E25, I don't mean to look down the speaker but from most what I read, 4" driver often not enough power for bass. I like the size factor and the design but, as for me it's the bluetooth and wireless function that make the speaker pricey. I never try this speaker yet but just my 2 cent. Judging from Harman Kardon soundstick iii wired vs wireless version. I may be wrong so it's up to your ears to decide mate. Always listen if you can. As for me, I fully depend on review, and luck. Please share with us if you got the chance to try this sexy lady.

I'm surprised you say R2700 disappointed you because my judgement is they might be tad below R2800. My initial plan is to get R2800 but they're over my budget and too large for my desk. If your darling kill you for buying large speaker, tell her speaker is like butt or boobs. Hahaha... M50W, I think on par with my SP2500 but a bit better midrange than my SP2500. Sound thinner but less harsh, the bass is more tight but not really powerful. But, I hate the placement of the bass adjuster which is at the sub. And I will place the sub below my desk, and I'm the type that often change the treble and bass position according to the music type and mood. Some say better than SP2500, some say the other. biggrin.gif

If you read at this thread, someone claim R1900Tiii better than D1010. Perhaps due to the bigger driver size, 4" vs 5". For D1080, the main reason I don't buy them because over my budget as I told previously. Plus, I believe wood body often better than PVC body in sound business. R1900Tiii are much heavier than D1080v. Well, keep in mind wood or heavy size doesn't make R1900Tiii is better than D1080v. This is just my judgement. Sometime, light speaker with PVC casing will sound better than poor technology speaker with cheap wood material. So, I hope you can help me to clear the puzzle too because I want to try D1080v if I was given chance. And I think D1080v better than R1900Tiii, only the price turn me down. But R1900Tiii only RM400 max. If your interested with D1080v, I suggest you PM Alex05187. biggrin.gif

Hornet and Thunder, tongue.gif I never heard this brand before so I have no comment. Judging from Amazon price, over RM1k mate. sweat.gif I will hunt for cheap amp and DAC deal, and get hifi speaker. Perhaps Dali Zensor 1? Or Get NAD D 3020 + Dali Zensor 1, within Rm3k price but I doubt you will face similar experience with desktop speaker line up. I don't know what is your favorite sound etc and where is your location. And I never heard most of the speaker that you mentioned before but I will say, go get R1900Tiii for music. and Edifier C3 if you want moar bass. These two recommendation based on feeling guilty for spending over RM500 for a multimedia speaker. laugh.gif For hifi deal, kindly consult this venomancer, Sentinel92. And for R1900Tiii with cheapest shipping, go PM hikari. wink.gif I regret that I didn't get from her. Don't hesitate to PM me if you want to ask something.

I really love forum that always have kaki to sharing experience, explaination, suggestion....

For myself, i set the budget not exceeded RM800. But sometimes when read great and cool review, and 'found' that i probably can get this ...(like car, always compare and get higher and higher spec... haha)

Well, for E25, i also no chance yet to test and play on it. Just read from review and source from youtube. Look sexy but no cheap, ya..not cheap.

For R2700T, i am guessing that pc shop could be just open the box and took out the speaker set and put it there. Maybe not even burn-in. So that why the sound performance very jialat! My darling do not know speakers, but when she listened, she told me she won't agree to get this speaker, so lousy, big and 'expensive'. haha!

I may have no chance to test the D1080-4 since i am not stay and living in KL area. That's why if i really wanna go to this guy, really need my friend helps to bring it back to me. But if any RMA, i am surely rclxub.gif ....

Btw, i do had my 'old' set of hifi system. May I just get DAC/amp and connect 2 rear speaker (become my left and right speaker) and connect to my computer?

I do not have any sound card yet. Previously keep thinking to grab Asus Xonar STX....

Hi, I just wondering why you want to upgrade your sound card? IMO, the most important thing is the speaker it self. RM 700 can get you better and newer speaker.

I'm not a kaki, just a fan. Hehe... And still new to this kind of thing too. For postage at malaya, I dare to say damn cheap if compared with postage to Borneo island. doh.gif So if I were you, I don't really mind postage because from what most seller quote me, likely RM30 for 20kg and below.

And what speaker is that which you want to salvage? Where's your old amp etc?

because i feel that a better sound card can result in better sound quality coming out from my speaker ( maybe i m wrong, please correct me).

if i change better speaker, i have to spend more money, because i need to buy a new one + better sound card right? since better speaker should have a good sound card to pair with , am i right ?

Hi mate,

Well you are right but... I don't know how to tell you. sweat.gif All I can say is usually improvement for upgrading source (DAC) will not be significant as getting better speaker.

How much is the sound improvement you expect buddy? If I were you, I just will recycle the sound card and get a better speaker. I just use UD100 or Aune T1 DAC for my all speakers. Compared to my stock soundcard, they indeed better but they're not significant like changing speaker.

My speakers path:
Sensonic F7> Corsair SP2500> R1900Tiii

And of course each newer path are better than previous path, according to my ear and needs.

alright, i got your point ady ~ better to upgrade speaker than sound card, since the improvement u can get from the money spent on speaker is more identifiable than sound card..

thank you for your input. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif u r so pro dude .

Has anyone tried AudioEngine A5+ before? I have read reviews online saying that it is not neutral and has heavy coloration. Some say they are fun to listen too, while others comment that the bass is too boomy and not tight enough, with recessed mids and less than stellar trebles. Just wondering whether it is suitable for rock music?

Never tried and heard that DAC before man. But a lot of China DAC got potential but got issue with QC. sweat.gif I can't recommend. Haha... Me just use cheap DAC. biggrin.gif Why don't re-use that old sound card first. Spend more on speaker first. Well, people so confident over D1080v, so want to hear your thoughts too. And share with us. biggrin.gif But I hope you compare with R1900Tiii.

I got no sound card at all tongue.gif (my ex sound card more than 10 yrs alrdy!)

So right now always use on-board one.

A lot of reviews said 1080-4 great and better. But got one issue which was the heatsink very very hot.

I think i can't compare which i am not able to get R1900T3 on my local.
