Last year, my gf's bro-in-law bought her dad a set of 3 katana on a rack. Longest, medium, shortest. Let me ask him where he get it and I'll reply here tomorrow.

QUOTE(kltower4 @ Feb 13 2006, 07:09 PM) Double handed means you can hold the kantana by two hands, hence the longer handle. Also yes, the blade is stainless steel coated with a layer of oil. I think it's for easy sliding in and out. how come so cheap geh? the material lousy? My replica comes with only 1 long kanata. It didn't come with the short one. I did saw a few short ones when I got mine but they cost another RM50 or so. Just one long kantana is good enough for me. If you have time to go there and have a look, there are many other types of kantana in different shapes and design as well. Oh, they got chinese swords too. i will surely go Penang and sapu all if arrive at Penang just ask the teksi to bring me to the temple there? is it a famous temple? |

Ya, the famous temple. Make sure you walk your way up there and bargain with them kau kau. This post has been edited by kltower4: Feb 14 2006, 03:38 PM |

Well, there's some truth in what you said. Some people just dont buy it because of pantang. Like my uncle, a very superstitious person says that swords and dragons are not to be simply bought and worn / put for display.ppl said only the"STRONG" family can own those KATANAs.... i persnoally loved them very much too!!! thanks to the movie THE LAST SAMURAI CNY, i bought a samfu with 2 dragons on the chest. He told me to take it off right away, so I told him I'll go back home to change and never went back to his house again. I dont believe in these sort of things but older people does. Replica is good, harmless to me. But if you get the real thing thats been used before like killing or hurting someone, who knows the spirit of the dead will come to your house? Sheeez... I wouldnt want that. |

QUOTE(kltower4 @ Feb 12 2006, 08:06 PM) If you're talking about replicas, I got mine at Ke Log Shii while doing some holidaying in Penang. It's a double handle Kantana. which part of kek lok si did u get it from? you reall know how to bargain. You need to bargain with them tho. Original price was RM160 and after some bargaining, it became RM100. Pics below, enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() P.S. These are just REPLICAS. They are not sharp but can still hurt and kill someone. Rm160 to Rm100. Impressive. |

I bought mine in 2004 at the foot hill of Kek Lok Si. Bought for RM140, 2 swords plus a stand. One sword longer, and the other one shorter.

hey kltower4, u display ur katana sword incorrectly, u should store ur katana sword with the edge side up to prevent the edge from bearing on the scabbard. I don't think that should be a problem thought since ur sword is not sharped. Anyway nice katana u got there.

just got back from katana hunting at centeral market and i was very disappointed. there were two shops (upper floor) that sells katana replica, the quality is HORRIBLE
the handle is made from solid white plastic. though it's wrapped in cloth trying to to look "real" but even a child will tell you that it's plastic. speaking of plastic, the sheath too is made from the very same cheap plastic (so cheap that i doubt that proton will use it in their cars). But they did a good job on the sheath by painting it black, and at first i thought it was wood until i look inside it. furthermore, the gold trim is also a big disappointment. like those you'd find on RM10 toys sold at pasar malam. lastly to comment was the blade. yes, it's stainless steel but it's no where the qulity of that in kltower4 pictures. it's so cheap that 'sekali pandang pun tiada selera.' pretending to be interested, i ask for the price on those 'replica' and they gave me RM360 for a pair (same length) and display case best price. single katana is Rm250 before discount. I was like WTF!??! overcharging for cheap toys? however i did saw an antique katana there on display. it's RM1700. according to the shop keeper, it's suppose to be the real deal. i didn't inspect that though since it's harta pusaka |

Dude wanna go back n double check on it....jus tin case it might b the real deal....I'm also looking for a set the tanto, wakizari, and katana with stands...but replica are a bit potong steam n the real one too blardie expensive... :'(...n i do agree with the older people as to the "Evil/Killing Aura" as the old japs antiques will sure have some of those spirits in them...also do remember to oil the blade every 3 months and also everythme u take it out of it's sheath just so it doesn't rust (yes alunimum does rust or stains) i might b able to get some of the real stuffs but like i said earlier....DARN EXPENSIVE MAN!!! :'(
