Personally I never had as much trouble at either DC or XL... i usually yoyo between these two shops and sometimes some toy shops in pj. But lately i find XL has been marking up quite a lot compared to the other toy shops around kl/pj, what do you guys think? i chatted with sam@bts abt it and he just smiled and shrugged... wtf lol?

ah abt tht fat ass, i tink you need to get on his good side... i dunno how tho. i've been buying from him for years and he does give quite a big personal discounts to frequent customers... i've got some from time to time...

sam@bts is a nice guy... too bad he has not much of a say, just a worker at the shop...

p/s: even if you guys don't buy from DC, you're still indirectly buying from them. they have quite a large toy distro network i heard =P

How do you define "price mark up" ?
Comparing the price between those local toy shops?
or you compared the price with the original yen's price?

XL PVC & Gundam models price is a lot more expensive than you buy online
other shops price also more expensive than you buy online
so if you are comparing the price between all local toy shops
maybe other toy shops are lowering their price, not XL increasing the price
in fact XL's price for the toys is getting cheaper nowadays compare to the past

I always comparing the price with those online toy stores (for example HLJ)
so that I'll know local toy shops really marked up the price or lowered the price biggrin.gif

XL mark up a lot, hmm i still find that they have the lowest price for figure compare to others and also they are the only shops that you can be sure the figures are original, the only other shop that I knw sells ori figures is Time Machine. the gundam prices is still ok since you have to consider the shipping rates, shipping from japan is not cheap

i oso compare the prices with hlj and usually xl is slightly more than hlj price + shipping

aiyah ppl also need to cari makan one la........the price is higher a bit maybe due to tax since they order in big bib bulk.
Buying from local toys shop got advantage and disadvantage.
Advantage is for those who usually buy small haul and can check b4 they buy/to ensure the genuien toys..........disavadvantage is pay extra is like for their servicce to help you order(middleman).
So,ppl who want buy more usually purchase online........juz my 2cents;)

I'm sure you are willing to pay for that slightly more to guarantee that you get a good condition figure biggrin.gif

well yeah... it could be a "mark up - mark down - compared to" case scenario here... i AM, afterall, comparing based on the prices amongst all the toy store that i frequent in kl/pj...

just wondering, if xl brings in a big single bulk of items compared to the other small toyshops around town, why is it more expensive? does not bulk = split shipping cost amongst figures, hence, cheaper figures? or the customs are being tards again, demanding $$$ to release the shipment since xl brings in quite a lot of items? or is uncle loong paying for a secure line through customs?

so many questions, so many guesses... doubt it will be answered =)

Well, my 2 cents is that XL-Shop's HQ at Tmn Putra, Ampang has the best service and range of figures. I'm a collector of soccer figurines (Soccerserie) and I just bought from this place last weekend, and it was a breeze. The salesperson was also very helpful while the range of figurines available were almost complete, which can be expected at the HQ. I've been to the MVMM and BTS outlets, and let's just say the service is not that better off than DC. However, the shop may occupy 2 shoplots, but still very limited space as too many stuff!

So my recommendation is XL-Shop HQ. Also bought from Ult Toys @ 1U (New Wing) and the guy there is quite friendly as well. But his range is quite limited and store is quite cramped as well.

yes..xl got pre order most of the stuff..you just need to walk in to the shop and ask them...pre order price at xl usually will be cheaper around rm10 to rm20 from the retail price later on.

whatever also about pre ordering..its better for you to go to the shop rather than doing it from their website...unless you are not from kl la..then you no choice

When I bought.....one TF from them through ebay, the guy seemed to entertain me, and said that he or some of his relatives are from my home town, that was the only time I did business with them, so I don't have any complain.

Does it make me a second person ? XD
