It is called Ferret. it cost RM500 to RM700 each.... A pair... maybe Rm1000 to Rm1.4k....
Tame is can tame... but it is smelly coz the males got a scent glands. They also nip and bite to show affection. They make nice pets, act like a cat a bit. It is a rare pet here coz not many people like to breed them coz the male smells and needs to be neutered and spayed if possible, descent them so that they do not smell. |

QUOTE(destroyer @ Feb 8 2006, 11:53 PM) Ferret is totally out of my list. Thanks crazymouse. Btw, how about gerbil. Are they tamer than hamster. Gerbils are tamer than hamsters a bit. ONe thing good is gerbils no smell... but they got sensitive tail, can break and never grow back so never hold a gerbil by a tail. You can read up on gerbil care on the thread I started http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=226783&st=0 |

One more info about ferrets, ferrets are not solitary animal. They need either to be in group or to be with the owner most of the time. They are known to die of loneliness.
They are playful animal, even more playful than cat and dog. They enjoy playing with the owner too... |

Do you still have a pair of gerbils for giveaway? A bit too many questions but that is ok. It makes you learn more and asking questions is good.A single gerbil cost RM20 to RM40, depending on where you buy them. Currently I do not have any to give away. The ones that I have are reserved for adopters already. You can be in the waiting list... but it is long. |

I think its not recommended to remove their scent glands. Anyhow they can stink and can be aggresive depending on its personality

Then the ferret has the weirdest way of showing affection, which is by nipping and biting. So if a ferret nips you a bit, it likes you hahahahh |

QUOTE(PipuPipu @ Feb 27 2006, 10:38 AM) Male Ferret smelly? How about female Ferret? Do they stink too? Did you do any research on ferrets yet? Don't blindly want something but never know their basic care. It's soooo cute!!! I might buying a Ferret!! Oh yea.. Is it true that they will "die of loneliness"?? Ermm.. sorry.. what is "scent glands" means? A ferret already has an intersting personality and character. The biting and nipping part. Yah, they are cute but not all cute animals make cute pets. Decenting means taking out the scent glands. What are they? An organ located all at their anal area. If you do not remove it in both male and female I think, it will be very smelly. The males will smell everyday, the female will be smellier when they are on heat. Generally, their aggression problem change during mating season. A ferret sleeps 18 hours a day and is only active in the morning and evening. They need big space, meaning big big cage or a room. Their room and cage need to have various toys like climbing polls and cat or dog toys. Their diet naturally is rabbit and birds. But since as pet, feed ferret food. Not many petshops sell ferret food. Even if sell also maybe expire coz not a popular pet. They can eat kitten food and the best brands are Royal Canin or Inova Evo, premium brands. If you buy other brands then the ferret can get health problems. They can live alone but it will be very depress when it doesn't have any attention. Get a pair is better. Not popular in Malaysia coz they do not have any descenting surgeries here. Also they do really smell, quite bad. They need proper bedding like aspen or corncob bedding. Cedar bedding can make them sick. No vets here that provide vaccine for ferrets so they have a risk of getting disease and sickness. |

Sorry, I have lose the ferret food website....But I'm giving IAMS and another cat food brand (I forgot the name) for my ferret. Yup, mix these 2 together. Remeber, ferret needs a time to get used on what he/she eats so you cannot change his/her food to another brand totally, but chnage slowly. |

Thread starter, do you mind changing ur topic to "ferret" instead of "furret"? It's kinda misleading for those who don't know what's that.
And the scent gland can be lasered to remove the ordour. |

She whole day activity is like this, sleep few hours -> wake up and walk around few hours -> sleep again -> wake up and walk/play -> repeat this routine.... |

QUOTE(skevelim @ Mar 1 2006, 06:10 PM) about male ferret ah....I don't think is very hard to find it...at least on last september, I saw few male ferrets in pets wonderland b4. I more prefer female pets....I have hamsters, dogs and ferrets...all are female. Just I do not like male behavior, except the first male dog I had. lol... I don't like male hamster bcoz there is 2 balls dangling around very ugly I don't like male dog bcoz that thing keep on sticking out Look like we share the same thought Female ferrets are smaller in size and cuter in nature (small = cute |

For you extra info, for your extra info, I have this little girl with me since last September. Probably if you gave them enough attention they wont bite your cushion. If you dont ... LOL !! All your cushions will be full of holes. Yeah i also heard they love to hide inside holes. Before you sit on a cushion, take a good look before you sit down. Because you never know when you will sit on your cute ferret. These are all informations from the internet. |

it is true that generally ferrets can be destructive...they may chew on stuff n ruin it. skeve, u r lucky to have one that doesnt take to chewing furniture.
Hehe. And its true...they will most probably play in the sand than pee in it. |

rofl ....
beck to topic, ferret reminds me SARS. Ferret is a kind of food in China, I dunno if Jalan petaling's ferrets are for food purpose too. lol i guess not. Anyway, ferret won't smelly because as a pet, their 'smell kelenjar' will be removed after they are born. Wild ferret still smelly, remember that XD edit:grammatical error found This post has been edited by akira de aimbuster: Apr 23 2006, 03:34 PM |

haiya, talking about musang, kinda remind me how mad i was at my neighbour. My place have a lot of musang and one day my neighbour caught one musang using a rat trap(cage) and let him on that cage without food and water. I was so mad because that was not the first time they did like that. Lucky my father gave some foods behind my neighbour's back. Oh ya, the reason they caught that musang was because they afraid that musang will kill their chickens. I couldnt tahan anylonger and one evening, i sneaked at their backhome and let the musang out and pretend know nothing about it. Worth my ninja training! Now I'm glad they didnt do it anymore. (hope so)!

My house is the old type got asbestos siling one so in between the roof tile and silling got empty space. One day my neighbour said she saw a mother civet with three anak following behind her they all go up the roof and disappeared. Then few days later my siling look like got leak but no raining and the wet spot bcome yellow so I suspect someone do their business up there another time my auntie opened the front door one nite saw tis fella crawling along the wall she took a banana and lure the baby into a chicken cage, then when next morning I make a noose and put the baby in a guni bag and released him in bukit gasing hehe... Ferrets are not actually smelly... though they do intend to have a little musky odour. And they generally dont bite... The smell tends to get lesser as they grow. I owned a pair, a sable male and an albino. I kept them in my room with me but in the toilet la.. At first the smell was quite bad coz they are young and the ventilation wasn't that good. As they grow the smell got lesser and i have installed a ventilation fan. After that it was great!

My neighbour caught an adult musang not long ago and asked me if I wanted it. What was I gonna do with a musang?? I looked at it and it was caught using a rat trap and had very big eyes with brownish fur. Cute though even though all it did was hiss at me. I asked her to let it loose but I don't really know what she did. I think she let it loose la, she's not a cruel person.
Cute pics btw. |

Honestly... ferrets for rm300 is a steal!!! I got my pair for rm1400 ler... Not really smelly ah.. Depend mostly to ventilation system and the food. At first the food they are having does cause a little bit more oil excretion then i change to science plan due to better price and better quality. Then their smell reduces drastically! I kept them in the my bath room so the ventilation wasn't that good at first. So i install a ventilation fan ( just cost bout rm40 ) then smelly no more. Really.. they are very good pet cause they dont make much noise, they are cute and extremely playful... not to mention intelligent as well...Attached thumbnail(s) |

I've always wanted to get a ferret but everytime I go to the pet stores -- omg they stink! But I'm glad that there are descented ferrets available. Might want to get one in the near future. Who knows, it might be a great companion for my maine coon cat who's extremely docile -- a real gentle giant.
I went to Pet Safari a few months back and saw the ones they had for sale. Gosh, they were in terrible condition la. |

They need premium kitten food.. bout 100 bucks each month for my darling.. they are kinda prone for cancer.. so need to keep a health saving for them and thats is bout 1000 each. Heard that in some point of their life there will be a need for a major surgery. So i m crossing my finger and pray this would not come...Attached thumbnail(s) |

Sounds good, although I probably cant commit myself to caring for ferrets yet. I heard they can tear a house apart, is that true? haha....do you keep them confined most of the time or are they running around your house? |

QUOTE(aureliux @ Oct 13 2006, 12:10 AM) Well.. The ferrets live in my bedroom... and the puppy outdoor but occasionally also let them out.. The puppy seems to be very friendly.. lick them alot but my babies (ferrets) dont trust him that much.. hehehe... anyway say in most ferrets owners web. they do live together but ferrets tends to get better with cats... Im not really know abt Ferret thingy, so does rearing ferret is more t like rearing a dog or a cat? They staying in ur room, so can they be trained? Well sorry if i like kampong boy like dat. |

Well sorry if i like kampong boy like dat. Well ferret is very much like dogs and cat.. Very affectionate, very intelligent.. they do recognize you very well and well love you and please you. Let put it this way.. Ferret is a playful puppy dog that doesn't grow any larger than a cat.. They can be trained just like a dog to do tricks but don't expect them to fetch your daily papers though.. Attached thumbnail(s) |

For those interested in finding out more about ferret. From breeding to choosing, there's 2 interesting sites.
All About Ferrets Ferret Central Ferret Central actually have FAQs that you can print out to give to the vets that are not familiar wz ferrets. Personally, I've always wanted a ferret and have been looking around. Never tot could get it in Malaysia but when I found out u can, checked around the petshops but all outta stock.. |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 23 2006, 01:44 AM) i've not been monitoring this thread.anyway, as we spoke the day i bought gerbil from u, i had bad xpirience when i give someone to adop my ferrets for free. the thread stated 'adoption is for free' unfortunately i cannot do so, i have lost trust in people who wants for free (no offence) unless i am convinced otherwise. my ferrets are still available. pm me to know more |

Wizardboy, UGPM.
Thx for the tip Kimmie. Which Pets Wonderland are u referring to? There's a few branches out there. @yitjuan. Yup. They used to and still do that even though it's consider illegal now. Check out the 2 site I put in the link to know more about their history and faqs. |
