cheapest way is u assign the TAC number to one of your close relatives. when ever u want to use TAC the bank will sms to your relative. then thru viber, whatsapp or such he sends the code to you for verification. done.

Added on August 29, 2012, 9:18 amthe problem with malaysian banks is that they all think that we are in malaysia. the TAC thru sms is a stupid implementation.

I agree. Old fashioned. With my foreign bank account I have a small verification device that gives out a new code every few seconds. As far as I know perfectly safe, and easy to carry with me during travels or when I am here in Malaysia. But I guess I have to accept what we do have (better than no internet banking at all I guess)...smile.gif

Hi,

I was wondering which telco has the cheapest solution to keep a number alive.

I am moving abroad and would still like to be able to receive sms on my Malaysian telco.

For internet banking I also need to be able to receive TAC sms.

Do any of you know the best solution?

I guess I have the following requirements:

- Able to receive sms abroad
- Able to top-up via internet banking to keep the number alive
- Able to top-up for more than a month, so I do not have to top-up that often and still able to keep the number alive
- Able to top-up a small amount only, as I am not planning to use the number while abroad, besides to receive sms confirmations and such

I currently have umobile, but paying RM28 a month to keep the number alive is quite a lot of money (yearly) while I am not actually using it.

Perhaps there are alternatives for what I want too?

Thanks

Hotlink Youth Club numbers..

They have 5 years validity without need to reload.. But since its not longer in production, all those in markets now are used so will have lower validity depends how long it has activated.

Some forummers here are selling those at between RM20-RM50/card

If you just want to keep the number alive, can port to those which offer long validity like xox, get 28 months validity on your 1st top up once number activates. To further extend validity after the 28 months promo, it cost rm25 a year.

Hey @kidmenot & @ultra_freeze ,

thanks for the replies. I've not used nor heard of OneXOX before and I'm not entirely comfortable using a telco that is not mainstream. I'm worried that the telco might disappear while I am overseas and have no means of porting my number over to another telco. what do you guys think?

If you're not comfortable with MVNOs like OneXOX and Tune Talk and want to stick to the main telcos, I can only think of 2 choices offhand:

- Maxis Hotlink - contact their CSO and explain your situation, see if they'll allow you to switch to an old plan that offers Hotlink 365.

- Digi Best - if you don't already have an older version, the cost to extend the validity for the latest version is now RM108/year. And no, they won't allow you to downgrade the versions.

Guys please take note that Digi wont let postpaid customer switches telco easily, i got caught off guard. When today I thought I could just easily switched my digi postpaid to tune talk 365 validity, I was told by the tune talk sales lady at paradigm mall that I first need to convert to their prepaid first for at least 6 months. I had no choice, so I went to digi store but... they can't do conversion. Can only be done at digi centre, so i went to sunway pyramid. To convert to digi prepaid there are 2 options. First, if you wanna go 6 months and get the cheapest prepaid would cost total 6 x RM30 = RM180. Or as someone mentioned on comment above, Digi super long life is RM108/year. With simple math I know what to choose la, so we took the digi super long life. I marked my calendar down, exactly the same date today next year "Change TELCO!"
