Hi,

I was wondering which telco has the cheapest solution to keep a number alive.

I am moving abroad and would still like to be able to receive sms on my Malaysian telco.

For internet banking I also need to be able to receive TAC sms.

Do any of you know the best solution?

I guess I have the following requirements:

- Able to receive sms abroad
- Able to top-up via internet banking to keep the number alive
- Able to top-up for more than a month, so I do not have to top-up that often and still able to keep the number alive
- Able to top-up a small amount only, as I am not planning to use the number while abroad, besides to receive sms confirmations and such

I currently have umobile, but paying RM28 a month to keep the number alive is quite a lot of money (yearly) while I am not actually using it.

Perhaps there are alternatives for what I want too?

maxis, ive got experience using maxis in indonesia.. able to receive sms without problem, and i think u need to pay rm35(please check urself) for 365 days period

how to get this promotion..i once got sms offer for this rm35 for 1 year... subscribe but no response.. right now still need to topup monthly to maintain this number..


to TS.. if u just want to keep this number alive.. just topup once for 2month.. if rm10 ringgit.. 1week can use. then expired take 3 months before they fully cancel ur number.. but need to topop within 2 month after expired.. because after 2month its already temporary terminate ur number (but still can receive incoming call but cannot topup).. need to go to center to activate if after 2 months.. after 3 months they will fully terminate ur number.. cannot use anymore..

its maxis prepaid.. but i never subscribe the hotlink 365 yet, so i dunnoe..

last time i just topup rm10 when reaching expiring date, please note after u reach ur credit expiring date, u still got 3 months(please check also) b4 the sim went out of service, so just need topup rm10 each 3 months or so..

just for information.

for celcom... after 2nd months from expired... they already temp terminate. but u can still receive call&sms but cannot topup anymore.. need to go to celcom center to activate the number back.. need to pay rm30.

last week before complete 3months.. they will send notification sms told to topup else the number will fully terminate..

or 2 years @ RM50.

That Celcom option for 2yrs also sounds interesting, but I have used Celcom (& also Tunetalk) for a while and wasn't that happy with the reception and with the 3g speeds. If I am traveling through the country, Hotlink/Maxis usually has the best coverage (also on deserted islands/jungles and such). So I might still choose Hotlink365.

Don't get the whole RM33 top-up thingy that I have to comply to though, but I am sure the people at the store are able to talk me through it proper....

maxis is worse. broadband only got G. but celcom can get H already.
so cannot help lor..

that RM30 extra basically mean u must topup RM 30 during 1st 6 month to make its eligible for 12/24 month lifetime.

the cheapest solution to keep ur num alive is, make sure the number is not under celcom, change to prepaid, then change ownership to ur youngest siblings name, then bring him/her to celcom to port to sox/uox, it will expiry when the age reach 25

earlier this year i'm using my lil bro-in-law ic for 1 of my simcard, and guess what, the expiry date is 2022

I used to have that too. You must top up some amount within the first six months.

There is also a little known provider, Tron, that I think is valid for 18 months on first purchase. However, like U-Mobile, maybe limited roaming.

Still leaning towards Hotlink, but I will definitely check out the alternatives...

cheapest way is u assign the TAC number to one of your close relatives. when ever u want to use TAC the bank will sms to your relative. then thru viber, whatsapp or such he sends the code to you for verification. done.
