Some website recommend the SB 400 instead of SB 700. Being lighter, more compact and cheaper. What are the main differences between those 2?
*
diff flashes, diff uses.
if u want cheaper, go find a used sb600.
but better if u take out abit more money get sb700...slightly less powerful than sb600 but easier to use.

its a very small diff, if shooting ppl u wont notice.
for me when balancing left right light to make it level on small stuff...say if my 600 is at 1/32...my 700 is around 1/20...same distance same zoom.
of cos can move it around...but i lazy tongue.gif

Considering a micro lens.

Nikon 105mm f/2.8G VR
Nikon 60mm f/2.8G

Anyone has any experience with either or both of it? unsure.gif

What other option available for good micro lens?
*
olympus 60mm macro for m43 rclxm9.gif

depends what u want to shoot, and if u really need a larger working distance.
if all u going to shoot is little products etc, 105mm is overkill.
likewise if u going to shoot insects, 60mm is not enough tho for some ppl it is a better lens.
a general cheaper in-between is of cos tamron sp90...but i rather wait for the new one to be announced first and see how much it is.

You mean the demo version? I check the site, it said the demo version only support for 8 bit jpeg?
i didnt know jpg got more than 8bit.

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 15 2012, 12:37 PM)
105 VR have focus breathing, so might need to get use to that. For true serious macro, it might be annoying. But for general macro, should be ok. Besides, the lens is good for Portraits as well and focusing speed is acceptably fast when set to limit, still able accurately follow the subject which is moving.

In comparison with SP90, the 105VR triumphs over it in MANY ways, it maybe pricier, but there's big difference is terms of features and what it offers. Firstly, the focusing speed and accuracy easily be one of the reason, second the Internal Focusing while the SP90 extends like crazy.... plus Silent Focus on the Nikkor.
More... there's VR on the Nikkor, excellent built quality, Nano Coating,... and is it weather sealed?
In comparison, it's just very much differences in terms of specs, features and performance alone and the price isn't much far apart if you take those into considerations, unlike comparison with other 3rd party lens, where there's little difference in terms of specs or features mainly, but a HUGE gap in terms of Price.
*
thats why i said wait for the NEW SP90.
it doesnt extend and its got updated optics.

I thought it was referring to color bit depth? Or its referring to something else?
The bit depth from jpeg file produce from 808 already 24 bit

Yes, the new SP90 might be worth looking at, but it might cost up to RM2K? While the 105mm VR is about RM3K street price?
*
it says lossless jpg, so assume highest quality possible...more than enough for general usage.

SP90 price now is speculation since no price announced...but release date is end of this yr.

Added on October 15, 2012, 1:29 pmthing is im not going to argue and say 105mm vr is not a good choice...it is a good choice...if u got money.
if ur on a budget, most will probably be thinking i can also get a used 85mm 1.4d or 105mm dc...or even save money and get the nikon 60mm macro...cept with a very short working distance...so need to see what u want to shoot...
plus got ppl out there who use 60mm as a general lens for anything...products...wedding rings...etc etc.

as for the sp90 extending...again thats why u need to ask urself what u want to shoot.
if its just products, well there is no way the product is going to run or fly away right? tongue.gif

Of course don't expect it to have same price as the DX lens such as 55-300 though LOL.
*
obviously one got more glass tongue.gif
even canon 70-200 f/4 got 67mm filter size.
im going to assume street price is rm3k...in the middle of 70-300vr and 300 f/4.

i think for now probably nikon shop in putrajaya or klcc since most dealers probably wont know, or pretend not to know so can get more money.
