What is the best company in O&G (Operators) which have equals and balance in-terms of good payment and lifestyle. I heard as for now Shell is no 1. It is true? How about others like Exxon, Petronas, Nippon Oil, HESS, etc.

are you getting offer from one of them? or intend to jump to one of them?

Hi, i have few question...

Does Ultrasonic testing for bulk storage tank can be done to detect other faulty also such as cracks, leaks, and etc.... ?

How expensive this NDT method compared to other NDT method?

And is it necessary to do this Ultrasonic testing for every 5 years bulk storage tank maintenance?
*
Depend on what type of inspection you want to do...for bottom plate, on-stream people nowadays use AET (Acoustic Emission Test) to determine thickness of it. If you down the tank, use MFL (Magnetic Flux Leakage). For roof deck, shell plate, u can use UTTM crawler etc. Usually people take API max requirement, 20 years. 5 years interval is good for data collection, but again if you calculate remaining life base on first reading, you can determine period of time to re-check the value and also RBI must be included inside the report. If you got budget, then can do even annually, hahaha. All these testing are expensive, you can get quotation from Rosen, SGS, Testex etc. You also can hire API 653 certified inspector to inspect your tank.

Note : All above mentioned testing usually to check thickness. For crack, leaks etc. you need to see what type of crack you want to inspect, if product tank, easily you can detect with you naked eye even minor crack as it will sip through easily. You can use vacuum box test, helium gas test + sniffer, or Snoop Leak Detector (u can use normal soap + water). Or hydrotest. Check suitability of them to your case.

API 650 & API 653 good for reading and also whatever quote by ch_teo

Have a friend who just started working in Exxon, really impressed by the employee benefits. He's based in Malaysia and had some work overseas recently, he was given business class flight and have his own personal driver during his overseas period, crazy high food allowance daily, 5 star hotel as accomodation.

that's normal for Exxon...

Don't worry, rezeki is not totally depend from which uni you came from. Just try harder, btw, I'm from UiTM. Some of my working colleague also from UiTM. I got my friend working with McDermott (he waited almost a year for OnG till he got offer from them), MMHE, etc. One of ex my current place just got Ir and jump into Petronas early last year. He also from UiTM. Another just got offer from Carigali HESS.

Note : Sometimes is not necessary for you to work in OnG field but you can excel in other place, better than those working with OnG. Think positively.

I'm the most charming u know.. 😄😄😄

You will be rewarded base on your proven deliverables.. Gen-Y always forget about their market value  in the industry, don't rated yourself high if you are not 'talented enough'..

Bumi Armada is a good place to start, example: 6 years with the company we have successful delivered our work for 6 FPSOs.. Now going for 7th..

QUOTE(klein @ May 19 2013, 01:59 PM)
As a Gen Y myself, I think Gen Y are generally thinking too highly of themselves. They want everything fast. Some fresh graduates I know talked about becoming a manager in 5 years. laugh.gif Confidence is good to have, but overconfidence? Meh.

Everyone can say how eager/ ambitious/ passionate he or she is during the interview, but whether they deliver what they promise is another thing. When you have nothing much to offer - i.e. good track record, a min 5 years of working experience and knowledge.. sorry lah whistling.gif
*
This discussion about baby boomers vs Gen-X vs Gen-Y also happened at my place. But then, I quite agree with klein, some of Gen-Y "thinking too highly of themselves". Nowadays, "jump ship" is normal but most Gen-X cannot accept this as their prone to work at same workplace till retired (if the workplace provide you with good benefits).

I guess competition is quite high out there and we Gen Y are in for a fight. The workplace shouldn't be a place for complacent pals... Gen X and baby-boomers should take this positively as we are not kids anymore, give us some responsibility and we shall deliver to your expectations... We are open to criticism and we are also free to express our opinions regardless of how old you are...

So now, who want to take me in their company? wink.gif
*
Haha, that's what we called Gen-Y...not sure if another gen will come out after this, hehe

Light sweet, sweet (less H2S), sour crude (high H2S), but nowadays a lot of wells come with sour crude, Tapis is one of the best. Cakerawala, Condy, Kikeh, Kidurong, bla bla bla....

Note : I heard TCOT now down for maintenance, is it?

I thought sweet crude has more CO2?
*
Usually sweet crude, or light sweet is expensive compare to sour due to lower H2S and CO2. It's easy to process compare to sour where your need additional equipment to process it. Crude price usually use this sweet or light sweet as benchmark like Brent, WTI, Tapis etc. Yet, not many this type of crude in the world. Sum more, the fuel is cleaner as the content of H2S inside it very low at the beginning stage. Yet different crude has different ability to produce certain content. This one process guy or crude expert will evaluate it base on profit margin before they purchase it.

keep fit for your own good.
after all you work 12 hours a day and 7 days a week.
thats if ure lucky and with client side.

I'm on the PMT side. I work til past midnight (sometimes til 3am) and up again at 530 to make it for the 6am toolbox meeting. Have power naps at lunchtime. Oh, and as part of the PMT, not entitled to OT pay. My last trip was 47 days offshore living like that.
cry.gif

Dont equate body building with keeping fit.
Skipping rope is cheap, easy to bring along and gives a good cardio workout.
No gym? do dips using chairs. Pull up bar? get the scaffolders to make one. haha
*
Wow..6am toolbox meeting, that's normal I believe hehe...btw,i think PMT and MPT is same meaning, my place use MPT
