Just to inquire..
Heard that Technip normally asks you to provide ur payslip among other docs when attending interview..
.Is it an obligation for you to reveal your payslip or can u defer? If you difer, can it affect your prospects of getting hired?
*
tell technip that your payslip is a confidential document. you reserve the right not to provide technip your payslip.

Newfield, Lundin & Murphy operates 1 or 2 blocks only and Malaysia and they have a small team of 'experts', the best people in the industry in Malaysia. They rarely hire freshgrads, rarely, doesnt mean wont. But you have to be reallt outstanding.  REALLY outstanding.
*
Newfield is LEAVING MALAYSIA and its blocks are now up for sale to the bestest bidder. It is also leaving China.

The two internships on jobstreet that you mentioned are too long for him. He will only have 2- 3 months time. Regarding the'issue', the hr told him that latest instruction from upper management is to restrict two interns per department. Maybe someone who is more qualified than him has already filled the two spots. (not sure whether what the hr said is true or they just want to turn him down haha) However, he was rather disappointed since they first offered him then turned him down a week later. That's life I guess. tongue.gif

Ranhill Worley Parsons are going downhill now. The company had recently retrenched a lot of staff. There's a rumour that a second wave of retrenchment is on the card soon. It's been badly managed by that inexperienced CEO, an orang putih.

Gumusut has high safety requirement which requires rounds of procedures and checklists first before executing anything. This greatly contributes to the delays on the project.
*
Shell screwed-up FEED. They had to redesign the pontoons due to blunders in topsides weight estimates. That delayed the project close to 1.5 years.

Eff Me, Shell spent close to USD200 million of Petronas money on FEED conducted in Houston some more ..... I had my reservations with the concrete slab concept but hey ... I was a kuchirat at the time.
*
That much? The amount I heard was USD60million. Petronas was mad like hell, and decided to teach Shell a lesson by pulling out the Gumusut topsides detailed design work from Houston and brought it to KL. (that in turn made Petronas push MMHE's capability of building both topsides and the hull to the limit! hahahaha!) Shell US was annoyed, but it's their own fault for taking Petronas for a ride during concept and feed stages. Ini kes Mat Saleh ingat Malaysians still live on trees.

On the 'concrete slab concept', where was the application of this concrete slab on the Gumusut FPS? I doUBT it's on the topsides since it would add weight to the topsides. I thought the hull (pontoons) wERE built from solid stiffened steel plates....

Hi Sifus,
I read the post on making the jump from one engineering industry to another. Recently i have been thinking to do the same but need some advice on my situation, i'm and EE engineer in a semicon MNC for 2 years and my degree is in EE. Would like to ask on what are the best ways for me to get into the OG industry and what companies i should look out for in attempting to do so...i tried shell so far but they do't seem to have engineering position open at the moment...
*
you should try for instrumentation and control engineering, the closest o&g related engineering to your degree in EE.

Bro, between PE and a geologist, which do you think is in critical demand by Petronas/Sapura Kencana ? biggrin.gif
*
im not in the position to answer that. most probably, geologist for Petronas (Carigali)? Sapura Kencana probably need good and experienced project managers.

Just a question:
With Diploma in Mechanical Engineering,is there any chance of stepping my foot into O&G industries at all???
*
yes..can start as a technician or equivalent.

worst case scenario, there's a tea lady/man position available in every O&G company.
