Pretty sure dandruff doesn't spread to face, only scalps.
Maybe its due to the dandruff, another skin condition occured?

You are describing the typical presentation and distribution of seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).

user posted image

The flakes are different from psoriasis - it is more yellowish and oily. Psoriasis scales are silvery white on a thick red base.

user posted image

As u can see, seborrheic dermatitis lesions on the scalp stays on the scalp. It does not exceed the hairline whereas psoriasis does. (picture below)
user posted image
Psoriasis lesions also typically appears on the elbows and knees. They also get pitting in the nails.

Seborrheic dermatitis has elements of eczema + yeast infection. So, steroid cream and anti-fungal shampoo should help deal with it.

Hi,

This problem still happen now after several years.
Doctor also can not cure it.
Now just wash face everyday to clean the oil and then apply moisturizer to control it.
Already spread to my chest.

Anyone have some further solution for this problem?

Thanks a lot..

Sounds like seb derm. Did u ever get a specialist to confirm it?

If it's really SD, it tends to be chronic and long-term.
Mine is on and off for many yrs already.
I got both redness and flakes , always at the usual spots where sebum production is high - eyebrows, T-zone, nose folds

Sorry to say, if it does not itch, sounds like SD, for which KL's best dermatologists have no cure. All the above lotions, moisturizers, dandruff soaps etc. will not stop it, maybe even feed it and make it worse, especially powerful steroids that damage the skin. Google SD. There are sites where people exchange info.

Try tiny amounts of things to soothe the redness and lessen the appearance of flakes. Start by washing only with sea-salt solution, cheap supermarket stuff is fine. You might want to hide red spots with BB-cream.

Yeah, already consult with skin specialist several years ago and cant cure it. Skin specialist only said this is not cause by bacteria and ask me wash face with the soap cream that he gave and apply moisturiser after wash. Have been doing this for years and just manage to control it and cant cure it.
Now it spread to chest.

For mine one it is itchy.
If i do not wash my face for several days with soap cream and apply moisturiser, the skin will become reddish and itchy with skin start to peel off.
For the new affected skin area in my chest, it is also itchy.
Have been struggle with this problem for almost 10 years already, really hope that this problem will go away soon and back to normal life.

Lately, I come across a very good hair shampoo which has improved my dandruff a lot. I have suffered with this problem more than 20 years, but after I started using the shampoo about 2 months ago, dandruff is almost gone now.

And I know they also have a series of products that can improve eczema or those that have serious problem with dry skin. Although I'm not sure how suffering it is when someone has eczema. Seriously, I was so tired with dandruff before it made me suffer for so many years of embarrassment and itchiness . Things like I couldn't wear dark color shirts otherwise everyone would ask me are you okay with your scalp or things like that, and the worst part is the itchiness where it was so annoying until I needed to go to the toilet to scratch my scalp all the time in the office.

If you are interested to get some info on the products please PM me. I can send you some details of the products. Hope this will help! smile.gif

Last time I do have such problem also, and yes I do have frequent dandruff problem.

During that period of time, the skin on my eye brow there and side burn there kept on peeled off like dandruff. Then I just apply my sis d face lotion in the morning, no more such problem after some time. I guess its due to aircond room, making my face super dry.

Oh and about my dandruff problem. I used Head and Shoulder and Clear Mens. You know whats funny? If i stop using them, I will have dandruff. And If I continue use just one brand, I will have dandruff as well. Only when I use H&S until finish, then Clear Mens next, then only I will be dandruff free. laugh.gif laugh.gif

It seems some itchy types are related to dandruff and pyrithione (Head & Shoulders, etc. ) helps. However if you want to try, you don't want a soapy shampoo on your skin too long. Get a small bottle of H&S CONDITIONER which also has the same ingredient but not soapy. You can even leave a tiny amount on all day without rinsing.

Sad to say, mine did not respond to this. I have got best results by washing with sea-salt, exfoliate with a clean cotton washcloth, and leaving to moisturize by natural face oils. If more is needed, coconut oil is very good. I am only a few days into trying a free sample from pharmacy of Physiogel Rich which contains a little ceramide barrier.

Makes sense. Low PH causes dandruff yeast to have problem surviving. Less of them, body react lesser to it. Dandruff decrease.

Can take pic of the bottle?

Do you know why only H & S works, because it contains 1% selenium sulfide. Which is treated in various skin diseases and even fungal infection.

Shampoo all the area which is affected and on weekends leave the shampoo out to dry for 15 minutes then wash it back.

FYI selsun blue has 2.5% but smells really bad.

It has nothing to do with cleanliness. In fact too much washing will cause more irritation and dry flakes.

Some moisturizers don't last the whole day and flaking starts again midway through. My samples of Physiogel -- both types are long lasting and help control flaking. I suspect the "Rich" formula will be better because it is thicker and one ingredient is "ceramide" which is a promising new substance found in expensive oral skin supplements (Eliz Arden $300)
It claims to form a skin barrier, so probably good for using under cosmetics to conceal. Ask for samples to try before buying the small tube at Rm60! Remember, moisturizing is not a cure!

Many will say eat this, don't eat that, take vitamin X. All of these are unproven, especially if you are looking for quick results. Another theory is that Seb Derm lives on oil, so they say don't use anything oil based, not even soap. That may be why sea salt works for some people. It might just be that all salts tend to calm irritated skin.

Things that have NOT worked, meaning still have SD or it continues to spread (in other words, waste of $$$) :

H&S (pyrithione), Selsun (selenium sulfide), Coal tar soaps, raw honey, cider vinegar, Cetaphil.
Antifungal creams, steroids, acne creams, Elidel cream (tachrolimus, powerful prescription)

We must face the possibility that it is a genetic hereditary or immune condition that is affected by tropical climate.

Update on Physiogel

Two months applying "Rich" sample onto red spots, as reported earlier, very good as a thick-layer moisturizer. A bit sticky. Lasts all day to stop flaking.

However, other products, including cheap sea salt can give similar results, so Rm60 for a tube may be too much of a luxury for many.

In the end, the most important conclusion is that it did not cure the dermatitis.

I'm just going through a quick search on a couple of more reputable sites.

They're showing very similar options of products that are used for treatment.

As for Selsun Blue (1% Selenium Sulfide), how did use it? It has to be applied undiluted, and let sit for 10 minutes.

physiogel is good , my eczema improved with it
*
It's because physiogel contains some shea butter in it. Look at the ingredient list, there's "Butyrospermum Parkii Butter". That's West African Shea Butter & it's not even the first item in the ingredient list. Meaning the content isn't that high. The ingredients are listed from the highest content to the lowest content.

Imagine if you use 100% pure shea butter, all the benefits of shea butter goes into your eczema.

Hi,

This problem still happen now after several years.
Doctor also can not cure it.
Now just wash face everyday to clean the oil and then apply moisturizer to control it.
Already spread to my chest.

Anyone have some further solution for this problem?

Thanks a lot..

psoriasis. Get local doctor to write a referral letter for you to be referred to the KL GH Dermatologist department. They will prescribe the correct topical or biologics for you. And btw, welcome to the P club, it cant be cure and there is no such thing as cure for Psoriasis. congratulations.

Drink more water, rest more, exercise more, get more sun and live healthy and dont be lazy with your topical or biologics. Ways to control your psoriasis.

Karma's a bitch dude. Bad news for you too. Psoriasis is spread via genetics. Read it somewhere and some doctor tells me. So you might have the gene. Some dont get it their whole life but the gene will be passed around. So dont be rude to your cousin.

try below easy fixed, i used to have bad dandruff, solve by sleeping early 10pm. And sensitive skin cause by to much and harsh wiping of sweat while working out in gym ,solve by below cream but on and off will return if i stay up late (2-3am) for 2-3 days in a row.

(spelling might be wrong):

benovate N cream - for sensitive skin, this contain some steroid stop using when symptom stop. put mild thin layer enough.

h-cord - middles cream for sensitive skin also contain steroid. change to this when not that serious. also thin layer or problem spot

Sleep more and earlier - lack of sleep or stress life will cause sensitive skin and dandruff too.

I have this especially this year when MY very hot, hence my skin more dry.

I use a combo of Betnovate and Nizoral Cream (Anti fungal cream) and it worked wonders after 1 week, I never saw it again.

I went to Dr Ting Derma Clinic to have this checked before and its Sabhorreinc Dermatitis.

Bottom line, keep hydrated, moisturize your face, and constant apply the cream until you cant see the redness again.

Betnovate & Nizoral are steroids, you need to use them with caution & take note of their side effects.

Correction. Nizoral is not steroid. Is antifungal cream.

Did Dr Ting prescribe those creams? Please say whether the SD stopped after a month of not using the creams. I have not tried them together at the same time. If the creams must be applied forever, then not a cure. May as well use something gentler.

Dr Ting gave their own medicine and used it for a while until it finished. Problem with SD it comes back once in a while if you didn't take care of your skin.

Mixture of creams stopped the SD for a while, but then if Malaysia decides to dry out my skin and I forgot to apply moisturizer (like yesterday, got sunburn), then it will come back, need to reapply again.

My SD is very much like my scalp dandruff, and mine I just need to keep regulated by a good gentle dandruff shampoo. Once I ran out and used a strong one which dry out my scalp, it will definitely come back.

But then, better go ask derma directly. Different skin types, different skin diagnosis, different cures. smile.gif

Hi. I've also have troubles with skin on my face, neurodermitis. Only psoeasy active cream helps me. I used also creams with cortison but I had side effects. Psoeasy works great with no side effects.

If like fancy moisturizers and can afford them, then use whatever cosmetics.

"Premium Ingredients. PsoEasy products contain more than 20 active natural ingredients including: tea tree oil, grape seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, aloe-vera, mahonia, smilax and calendula."

Homepage says a lot about Dead Sea minerals.

Sounds to me a lot like sea salt (approximately 70% NaCl remainder other minerals). I get it in the supermarket for a few Rm and it helps good enough! Half litre of edible walnut oil is only Rm11+ (full price, not promo) and cheaper than olive or coconut. Between cosmetics and food grade, which is more "natural" ingredients?
