Hi, I realized a lot of 3d fella here, just not a real career to be in our country not a money making one I'd say. Being in the art business for 16 years and still jobless, want to know how much I ask for? RM1500 salary. Sad story from some one as experienced as myself, how good am I? Check this out my website at
www.3d-assets.info
www.3d-ebook.com
www.free3dassets.com

If you want to make money, don't persue this career, I have spent thousands buying original software to work very hard up to this level but free-lancer is the last to receive payment in the chain cycle.
Thinking of going oversea? jobs are being out sourced to certain unexposed companies in asia mainly Thailand and China, the MSC nor the SMI did nothing in this area. In fact, they may have been scamed for un materialized pioneer projects and lost milions to half baked local foreign partnerships.

Other than getting serious, it is fun to be in the business and one of the few who managed to survive. thumbup.gif

Unlike GD or WD, 3D takes alot more potential technical skill and to be a real 3D master one has to be very skilled.

Thats why not many people make it here in malaysia. The professional level of 3D is international standard and few have come to that level here in Malaysia. The problem is that we have alot of smartass fellas who watch final fantasy or warcraft and decide thats what they want to do. I saw an exhitibition at the One Academy and Limkokwing final year students with their 3D work, all very stereotypical and boring la. Even the rendering and all is just very normal standard. I dont believe everyone has to go overseas to make it, if your really good and you still stay you'll be known through online forums and etc. Take a look at Tan Jin Ho. Hes Malaysian but how did he go to US to go and see Blizzard? There are scouts everywhere la and I've had friends who are in 3D and are doing ok.. the thing is just dont be in 3D 100% la.. Spread it out to DI (Digital Illustration) and other things also. If your already not very good in 3D and you have nothing else what do you exactly expect?

1.show off ur works.. and want we to give opinion
2.demoralizing new students, or people who want to explore 3D
3.to show your seniority in 3D area
4.telling out your opinion about the truth of 3D industry.
5.like estuko said - advise everyone to work oversea

from what i think personally as a designer, after i've been struggling in determining on what i actually 'major' in, since i 'one-leg-kick' at whatever i can do...

but well, it doesnt matter at what course or indutry you're in, everything is 'HARD' to survive, believe me, you think doing food is easy? there's competitor every 100metre away from your shop, you never know your shop might close before you open it.

for me, i believe in doing the best in the job you're doing, else, don't do it. I can see that everyone's saying how grey is the world and b****ing how worst it can be where as if there's no tomorrow anymore for the web design industry or something. Of course, for 3D as well, it really depends on the individual, don't say about the entire industry, if the own individual/person also not determined to do thing properly/to the best, how can she/he expect will live and survive in a better world? Everyone say that they're being overworked and underpaid and also lived under an environment where they're underappreciated.

Hey, look here, I'd think on my own honest opinion, to what it came today its not what other cause us, problem came in both way, we're the cause as well, so might as well blaming and running away, why not look into the brighter side (oh ya, you might think i'm like a priest sarcasting saying how bright is the world), look. If no one fixing the problem, the problem is still there. why not be the one that create the future ? if there's no one creating it? Heh, i believe in, you want a better life? create it! you want revolutionary industry in Malaysia? create the environment! bring someone along! do it! No one's a hero in a day, it even took me years to believe that i like what i'm doing.

Salutes and peace, my 2cent biggrin.gif

Well, I am the good, the bad and the ugly example. It is your maturity that will determine what I am interpreting here, Show off? yes because I am a master and if you feel a little jealous.

Don't forget to socialize and be a part of the community to enhance your chances, no luck will shut you out of the business, other than bad luck.
We are in the transition from manual to digital, the bosses is between 40 to 55 in age, a different era, I am not young myself but have been chasing this dream for so long that I am still where I started financially.

I was the youngest professional at the age of 21 with "Tatsun Studio" the founder of The One Academy, I was that lucky once but not for long, such market is no more in advertising, those who work their a** off to build the studio and the academy have gone separate ways after 10 years, leaving empty handed, getting real before its too late, they even formed their own art academy in Wangsa Maju.

A few of them when to Singapore and one came back to take my place in a children's book publishing. Why does it come to this end? Why does it matters to any of you?
Well, learn from those who have been through the ugly side of the real world, being young is often naive, I was young once and opstimistic that is how I lasted this long but felt wasted too much time to persue a career even banks don't recognise and refuse my home loan application worth only 50k, can you believe that? Credit card have no problem offering me 12k gold membership.
I am only refinancing the same low cost Flat I own due to divorce, have never in dept in the past 7 years but good record won't help, they just don't believe in free-lance, so I have to get employed or no loan.

That is how frustrated I am and can't help to blow your intention to dive into 3d based on current situation. All 3d is rendered in RGB, unless you are in multi-media, local standard need it in CMYK, if you can't handle the conversion, shit will print out.
How dare I say so much, you may add. I am still the only 3d artist who have successfully published 12 children story book in 3d. My former student make 4 times more just doing hand drawing for school text book in B/W and start to look down on me.
This is known as mid life crisis, more aware of in the west than Asia because we are living their past, so that is how important to know what has happen to the previous pioneers.

deart..

i'm not sure i "talked" wif u b4... R u the one? Refresh my nick pls.

What Deart said is truly can happend on any 1 of local artists. Listening more real-experience won't get u harm though.
As we knw, only the tough one, and stubborn person will eventually realize & cherish their achievement & keep building em solid. We can knw most of the successful artist indeed get thru lotsa painful process. haha. . After dat, u will imagine they are somekind of supernatural human.

Btw, Deart showed off his arts here is not really to show-off his mastermind or skill.
Just to let some of the "naive" guys know dat to make urself worthy more money-value at least get into his standard of art-level.

For locally market, getting high salary is working as web developer(involve coding+ design) & publishing ~

i like the Internet concept bout Online self-promote. This is the most cheapest solution for us who are qualify in foreigners's view.

Hi dinodog, I don't remember talking to anyone here, though I did say the same thing in a forum two years back, not in the mood to chat anyway.

I have just been offered a Studio Manager and a I.T. development artist in two separate firms as I went to 4 interviews in the past 1 week. Both offers is hard to resist, I really appreciate their understanding and keen interests to bridge the digital divine.

Since this thread does not send me email notice, I'll never know if there is a reply, anyway thank you for reading my post and best of luck to everyone.
On the other hand, I may need some free-lance illustrators for children books and web content layout artists in html, e-mail me your contact and resume link if you are interested.
