Key:
P = Province, Z = Zone, W = Nearest Waypoint

Alpine Wolf
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer Foothills / W: Outcast's Waypoint
East of the waypoint at the 'Honor the spirit wolf' heart.

Arctodus
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer Foothills / W: Vendrake's Waypoint
Run straight east until you hit the mountain, then follow it south. You'll find a cave filled with them. The juveniles are at the end (watch out for the veteran!)

Black Bear
P: Ascalon / Z: Plains of Ashford / W: Adorea Waypoint
North of this waypoint, juvenile bears are scattered among the other black bears.

Blue Jellyfish
P: Kryta / Z: Lion's Arch / W: Sanctum Harbor Waypoint
Swim straight south. With the map fully zoomed in, this jellyfish was found to the west of the 'Sanctum Harbor' text in the water.

Boar
P: Kryta / Z: Queensdale / W: Crossing Waypoint
Cross the bridge to the east and follow the road to the right. Don't go far, but climb the first small hill you see in front of you. The juvenile boar is up here.

Brown Bear
P: Kryta / Z: Kessex Hills / W: Cereboth Waypoint
Found west of the waypoint across the river, wandering among the bears.

P: Kryta / Z: Kessex Hills / W: Fort Salma Waypoint
SW of Fort Salma among the bears, South of the 'Aid Fort Salma' heart.

P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer Foothills / W: Borealis Waypoint
NW of waypoint, in a cave near the 'Honor the spirit of Bear' heart.

Eagle
P: Kryta / Z: Kessex Hills / W: Sojourner's Waypoint
Found north of the road west of the waypoint, flying among the centaurs.

Hyena
P: Ascalon / Z: Plains of Ashford / W: Decimus Waypoint
Slightly east from the waypoint, among the hostile hyenas.

Ice Drake
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer's Foothills / W: Outcast's Waypoint
East of the waypoint and east of the 'Honor the Spirit of Wolf' heart; along the river.

Krytan Drakehound
P: Kryta / Z: Queensdale / W: Beetletun Waypoint
The juvenile is only a few feet from the waypoint, sitting to the left of the tent to the north. If it is not here, there is another juvenile in the large building to the left.

Lashtail Devourer
P: Ascalon / Z: Diessa Plateau / W: Dawnright Waypoint
NE of the waypoint is a field full of lashtail devourers. The juvenile is among them.

Lynx
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Snowden Drifts / W: Snowdrift Waypoint
Head east along the main road. The juveniles are above the main road, above the 'Hrothgar's Pass' text on the map.

Pig
P: Kryta / Z: Queensdale / W: Claypool Waypoint
Head south through the town. There are juvenile pigs everywhere!

Polar Bear
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Hoelbrak / W: Hero's Compass Waypoint
Head southwest across the lake and to the shore.

Raven
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer Foothills / W: Borealis Waypoint
Near the 'Honor the Spirit of Raven' heart to the north of the waypoint.

River Drake
P: Kryta / Z: Queensdale / W: Ojon's Waypoint
Follow the lake northeast to the dam where you'll find juveniles among the other drakes.

Red Moa
P: Ascalon / Z: Plains of Ashford / W: Spirit Hunter Waypoint
Head northeast. The red moa are on the eastern side of the gorge, southwest of the purple crystal.

Shark
P: Kryta / Z: Kessex Hills / W: Kessex Waypoint
Head south to Viathan's Arm (the lake). Swim to the very southern end, where you'll find a few juvenile sharks swimming around.

Snow Leopard
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Wayfarer Foothills / W: Borealis Waypoint
SW of the waypoint, in the area of the heart 'Honor the Spirit of Snow Leopard'; near the heart NPC.

Warthog
P: Ascalon / Z: Diessa Plateau / W: Blasted Moors Waypoint
The juvenile is just northeast of the waypoint.

Whiptail Devourer
P: Ascalon / Z: Plains of Ashford / W: Duskrend Waypoint
The juvenile is just north of the waypoint.

White Moa
P: Shiverpeak Mountains / Z: Snowden Drifts / W: Torstvedt Waypoint
Head southwest toward the path heading west. When this path meets the main road, keep an eye out for the juvenile.

Right now I amdigging Sword/Dagger <---> Shortbow combo, seems nice for a single target nuke. Testing the Greatsword now, but first impression doesn't give as much as fluency feeling compared to Sword/Dagger (Leap out to evade attack, leap back in YO!!!). GS skill 1 saves lives though.

Shortbow is preferred to Longbow, due to bleed and speed. But thinking of testing out Axe in WvWvW setting, because of the AoE ricochet.

Btw, what pets are you guys rolling with? Spider/Cat here.

Sylvari ranger here! The shortbow is pretty wicked but one of the skills seems like its a bit buggy for me D:

Sword as a secondary weapon set is wicked, especially when you wanna fend off melee attackers and get away to start sniping them again.
Trying out the warhorn as my off hand with the sword. Just because calling in hawks to eat the faces off my enemies is hilarious xD

initially i was thinking of sword/torch combo, but after doing research and play a bit, i think axe/torch has the upperhand.... because we are "ranger", suppose to play with range/throw weapon....

You mean the jump-back skill? It's a bit buggy sometime, that I am not jumping back far enough or suddenly I am back at the last position. I like the bleed on number 1 though. Send it pet and just snipe-snipe-snipe while bleeding them.

The stun/cripple pretty useful for the runners in WvWvW as well.

Yeah most of the time I just end up exactly where I started even after I go through the jump animation haha! True true, its quite a good approach. Only reason I use the longbow instead of the shortbow is because I absolutely love the barrage.

True I imagine so! I've only tried WvWvW once though.

Personally when I've got a mob on me, its great to have a longbow for the barrage. And also the skill that helps you push back whatever gets too close for comfort.
The key is to make sure your pet is the one tanking for you if you're soloing large mobs. And be prepared to keep your pet alive so the mobs don't aim for you! to do this, I've been using the troll unugent. Makes you and your pet's HP regen like crazy.
Also, I use a sword/warhorn combo as my alternate weapon set. The sword has skills that let me get away from any mobs that get too close to me and the warhorn lets me call down hawks to attack the mobs.

Basically out of my 3 days of experience, thats how I've been dealing with the bigger mobs when there's nobody else around to help.

Two ways to deal with it actually

1) Use Axe. Axe is your staple AoE weapon, with skill 1 hitting 3 targets, and skill 2 a conal AoE. It's not much, but it is something.

Longbow is actually a single-target nuke, with Barrage mainly for crippling a large number of mobs (particularly in WvWvW situation), while others are picking them off. Barrage is also useful in PvE to "tag" mobs to you, so that when others killed them, you will get some loot and XP. (If you use Shortbow, Skill 2 [Poison Volley] is the tag method I always use. But both of these are not so powerful AoE methods (i.e you can't aoe nuke like a frost mage in WoW). Single target until they die.

But no matter what Ranged Weapon you are using:
a) If you are being targeted KITE!!!. Axe Skill 3 is a chill. If you use an OH Dagger, Skill 5 is a cripple. If you are using Shortbow, Skill 3 is a jump-back, Skill 4 is a cripple, Skill 5 is a daze (stun if you hit from the side). If you have spike traps as your utility, use it!
b) Swap pets!! If you can, before the first pet die. But with two pets, you can handle up to 3-4 mobs in all honesty. Even moreso if you are using high vitality/toughness pet (though I am using cat, and he hits hard!!)

2) Go into melee. Melee attacks hits in a short cone in front of you, and you can hit upto 3 mobs at the same time. With a cat at your side, you can make short work of the mobs.

Greatsword skill 1 chain ends with an evade, skill 4 is a block with counterattack, skill 5 is a daze (stun if you hit from the side). Sword skill 2 is a leap-out, leap-in (great for evading stuff), skill 3 is evade and go behind the mob (though doesn't necessarily hit) while skill 1 chain is a moving and very fluent skill (can give you headache a bit, but nice to move around).

TL;DR: Know your weapons, know your pets, and dodge/kite like hell.

You know, what I wish with the Sword is actually a rushing attack. Kinda like Greatsword skill 3. I like Greatsword as well, but then it lacks the fluidity that the Sword has (even though skill 2 and skill 3 didn't connect most of the time ahahahaha)

I wanna ask, would each races have their own perks to the class?

Like in WoW, or it's purely appearance and personal story?

Every race have a race-specific skills that is not tied to any profession. So far, there is no conclusive argument to say which racial skills goes well with which skill (from which weapon) of which profession. Because, it is as complex as you read my previous sentence =P.

Read about the racial skills about the wiki. IIRC, every racial have one healing, one elite, and a couple of utilities.

Also, Sword/Axe is kinda cool. But, I think Sword skill 1 locks you into place. I can't dodge nor evade when Sword Skill 1 is in full swing.

And now I am missing the Evade effect from the Greatsword dry.gif. Need to find a Green Greatsword I guess.

Do not use Auto attack when u using sword, using sword/greatsword with fire trap is good..can combo fire aura which burns enemies. good for condition build.

using sword/horn for now...i love call of the wild..makes me so fast so good..xD

i think im very used to gw1..any 1 find the ranger builds alil limiting?maybe im just still thinking in the box...skills 1-5 cant say much..cos its weapon skill but im finding 7-9 just...urgh..not so attractive.

for a fast play style where u just run hit run hit...traps and spirits dont quite fit in.

Ya, I'm in SoS. My ID is cressalve.5241. But you can PM me ingame by the name Eira Dunedain. I'll be on after 5pm usually. Gimme a holler ya?

At first I just leveling my craft casually as i got mats from my travels and quests. Then I craft all the raw materials until it gives me no exp, then I start using discovery pane to craft. It gives superb exp.

WvW - Shortbow / Longbow

Maybe going to try Longbow/Shortbow for PvP, Shortbow/Greatsword for PvE.

dual wield axe is quite nice, 1st 4 skill is axe throwing skill.. the last skill (slot5) is kinda melee, and block projectile as well... cyclone axe iirc the name

pure melee probably viable in sPVP since it is a quite a crowded area of fighting... i found that i dont like sword, coz i always confuse with the 2nd skill (sting)....

wrong, they are really viable especially the burst built rangers (GS)...
they have burst almsot as high as GS warriors with more utility...

the sword/ dagger build on the other hand is one of the best point holding build due to the number of free evades together with 6sec invulnerability

I beg to differ. I have a sPvP ranger with GS as well as a shortbow or longsword + dagger/torch/horn depending on my mood of the day. Works out quite well I dare say.

The torch deals conds which is in one of my personal builds to deal max conds as well as holding up fairly easily against another guy (1v1..anything other than that will need more help especially mesmers...thoes are annoying.)

Shortbow DPS is higher than Longbow.
Shortbow + Tanker PET
Shortbow is great for Critical Build. Think dota drow ranger...

Melee i use sword, larger spread + 1 handed.
( your offhand can give stat bonus. )
Offhand - torch ( the 5th skill for torch is good AOE dmg )
Rush into a group of mobs, burn the land with Torch, swing your sword,
when you go down, aim the lowest hp mobs, Kill him, stand up with 50% hp, heal, repeat.

My current build has me using both the longbow and shortbow. The longbow is for sudden long range burst and to chase down those who are running away.

Shortbow is for up close and personal attacks.

I just started a ranger yesterday
and i has one curiosity regarding about pet..
is ranger pet can enable auto attack rather than press F1?
Even pressing F1 is not 100% responsive at times...

It auto attack the target you hit if you don't press F1 unless you put it to passive mode.

Dunno about karma armor since the ones I see that worth to get for the stats is sold at Orr for 42k karma points per piece.

But if you wanna buy rare grade Lv80 fullset armors, might cost you around 40s per piece. That's around 2g 40s for full set.

If you wanna craft rare grade armors yourself, you either farm 90 vials of potent blood or buy it straight from TP for a pro rate of 1s 60c per piece. That's about 1g 44s just for the bloods, not inclusive other mats.

Not too sure if this makes sense but I'd avoid karma armor. If you don't have much coin, blue grade armor should tide you over till you can afford better armor. Rare grade (gold) armor is pretty cheap as well. 40-50s x 6 which you can farm in less than a day of game play. Those will be good enough till you can get better.

Cressalve can craft armor/weapons so you can look for him for that. He'll help you out if you can provide him the mats, talk to him and work something out. Cheaper than buying gear from TP since he's craftin git.

Never travel through Orr all alone, it's suicide act tongue.gif Go with at least 1 friend if you are exploring or farming in Orr. Those risen sure is annoying as hell.

EDIT: might want to drink some anti undead potion. plus 10% dmg to undeads and lessen dmg from them for 8%.

Any good places for farming alone?

Farming for rangers eh? Best bet for survivability and massive loot drops, join zerg rush doing DE Orr luls, with magic find stat you can get yellow and green equips quite easy.

Im like on my shortbow so far. Trying to make a pve build but still low lvl.

Sword is gooding too with Quickening Zephyr.

BTW if i want do burst damage what should i invest in? Precision or Critical condition? I tried with power build and it seems the damage is consistent most of the time

Pets are broken. I consider pets in GW2 to be more of a liability rather than an asset. whistling.gif
They die way too fast, and they often get in your hair when trying to leave combat.

Anyway what is the trait skills build you guys using? Im going to aim for 20/30/10/0/10.

Honestly, when you do explorable mode bosses, your pets get one shotted even if you play your cards right. A nice example is Subject Alpha from CoE exploration mode. Doesn't really matter what kind of pet, pets in this game are too dumb to dodge red circles icon_idea.gif

Honestly, when you do explorable mode bosses, your pets get one shotted even if you play your cards right. A nice example is Subject Alpha from CoE exploration mode. Doesn't really matter what kind of pet, pets in this game are too dumb to dodge red circles  icon_idea.gif

Still die although not as fast as melee pets. And melee pets > ranged pets in terms of damage. Nowadays, hardly bother to send pets into battle, just keep them passive and let them buff group instead.

Shortbow bleed and speed is not a joke. Switching between sword and sb here. Condition damage are good for sb in pve but what stat should I look for in pvp? Pure power or crit/pecision how?

Now that you've mentioned that. Recently I've changed my pet roll call from dual bears to dual lashtails. great range atks since bosses usually one shot any melee pets, even the tanky bears lol Lashtails has been great range companion of mine hoho but, using them u need to quickly toggle back to me/atk target when the enemy chase you down. Oh, and yes, I like to have 2 of the same type of pet at a time since i swap em every 20 secs for the 2 sec zephyr boon.

Guys which order you pick for your ranger? Vigil or Order of Whisper?

I plan to go for Vigil for the armor looks but it seems not fitting for ranger.. I like straight forward combat than sneaky also

Any of you put points to Nature magic? I was wondering if Rejuvenation actually works at all, it said you gain regeneration when health reaches 75%, I believe quite a few times my health did drop to 75% or below but never see that I gain any regeneration

10 points in Nature Magic just because, aside from extra HP, all first major traits are very useful

I usually switch between Nature's Protection (more damage mitigation) and Strength of Spirit (more attack power) depending on the situation flex.gif

Hi there. Norm Ranger here. joined Order of Whisper. but still far away from level 80.

my fav weapon is switching short - long bow, since i have bear tank and summons so melee is not a prob in dynamic quest, except for bosses or PvP.

I might try broadsword - shortbow for PvP or WvW. any comment on this?

Yes i agree.. Ranger run slower than warrior. In other MMO ranger should be a fast ranged class but in gw2 the speed is ridiculous. I use signet of hunt and activate rampage as one to run faster sometimes although it doesnt help much.

Get horn. I keep a horn on me sometimes to keep casting swiftness. The cd is not too bad.

Otherwise you need to get items with increased movement speed.

All 3 of my skills a speced to traps. Poison, fire and bleed. For large numbers of mobs this seems like the best. Also best to counter thieves in wvw. I just dump traps around me when they go invi.

Not so effective against pve bosses though.

I am using shortbow than longbow... I like fast atk.

Is it effective enough if I equip all wpn & armors in +precision instead of +power
and add more skirmishing points than markmanship, in order to have high crit hit % to get crit dmg?

And what is that Order of Whispers? Where do I join it?

Order of Whisper are one out of three orders Vigil and Priory Durmand that you can choose to join at around lvl 30 when you doing your personel story.

For the attributes, it highly depends on what build you choose. If you are using shortbow as main wep throughout the game, it is advisable to go for condition build. The weapon bleeds is not a joke brows.gif You can always try out different types of build and settle down with the one you are satisfy the most. No build are the best tongue.gif

If you mean weapon skills, you can't...its unique for each weapon, 1-3 main hand, 4-5 off hand.

For the last 5 slots, you can change them anytime as long as you're not in combat so you should switch them to suit your encounters

Aaaaannyyyways... I need a new way of building my ranger, but too bad the only viable build now is condition damage I think.
*
yup.. condition stacking build is the only build right now because it synergize with your toughness....

don't think there's a craftable toughness, condition damage items right?

Think the one I found is Grenth's one, I think and not all.

Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Ok I can’t type more with tiny phone finger keypad. See you in game!
Jon
was a bit sad after reading yesterday's patch note and not finding anything about rangers, now I feel a bit better.

oooo so them damage numbers will pop up.
errr can them damage numbers be seen behind walls?

and since the dome is the only way up, and they sneak in via mad king complete edition (to pass through dark room) with 5 mins invisibility from 2nd mystic fountain so if we lay down enough traps in the domes when they are coming up and see the damage numbers then we will know liao?

basically if we trap the important path in the dome then gg no re liao hor?

yeap, it can be seen from behind walls...just don't know if there is a limit, i only had 1-2 layers of walls between me and the traps

yea, if use crippling traps at the ledges on top of the dome or one of the lamp platform & fire arrow cart once the traps are triggered should be gg already

I made some changes to improve pets hitting moving targets in this upcoming build. I wouldn’t expect those changes to light the world on fire, but they have improved. There is more to be done in this area still but feedback on how much this upcoming change helped, once it is in, would be great.

Don't really notice too much difference, but the 25% swiftness signet is awesome! Too bad I still need the warhorn to keep up with the zerg.

Usually preferred running raven/wolf in wvw, other pets situational for snares/immobilize/condi cleanse. Now I love using jaguar/wolf in wvw.
