Currently I own a Samsung S22A100 and it only offers one Analog port and only have one button , so I can't customize anything from the monitor.
Should I upgrade to Dell U2312 for the IPS and more customization?
*
U2312HM has DVI, VGA & DP but no HDMI, if you're sure won't be using HDMI then can go ahead, DVI is way to go for Full HD and beyond, VGA is seriously outdated unless otherwise no other choice. wink.gif

Ok, what about the image quality? Is it a really huge difference between the two models?
*
You mean S22A100 vs U2312HM in terms of graphics quality?
It's the normal comparison of TN vs IPS, day and night different, obvious win for U2312HM. sweat.gif

My LED got dead pixels at the corner, is it repairable? How much does it cost around?
*
Usually dead pixels means the panel itself is required to be changed. If it's an old monitor (out of warranty) then just change a new one, repair cost is just about the same as your whole monitor price (old one after all).
New monitor has 3-year warranty by default.

I am currently using a Dell 2408WFP for the past 4-5 years or so. I find that the screen is overly bright and kinda yellowish. What would be the recommended upgrade for a sub RM1k FullHD to replace it?
*
Looking for similar brand and performance? Then try the U2413H(M??), around RM900.

2011: Dell U2412M
2012: Dell U2413 (AH-IPS)
2013: Dell U2414H (USB 3.0)
now I'm considering change my S2740L to 1 or 2 Dell U241x (dunno which gen better?)
*
Ah the U2414H kills it, 24" suppose to have 1200p, now they move to 16:9 which kills the reason to have 24" monitor (1200p).

Hello,

for now the 27'' is very expensive since it just got introduce to the market,

may I know what is the biggest size that have the most efficient price ratio nowadays?
(zero gaming, only movie, only got integrated intel graphic card)

what size should I upgrade from my 15''?

is 23'' ok? thanks!
*
27" has been around for few years, they're in the mid-entry for someone whom can't afford the 30".
As for movie only, any 23" should fit the bill, 23" being the value compare to 24".
If you have choice you may look into 21.5" as well, some of them carry Full HD, for a very small desk.

TFTCentral provide many Dell U series review, do check them out time to time.
They review mostly mid to higher tier monitor.

What monitor should I go for if I want to achieve good color accuracy while editing photos? Preferably >24"
*
Dell U2713H or U2713HM should suits your needs, those are cheaper and locally available models, if you can afford more, you can seek those much higher grade professionals monitor with uniformity adjustable monitor, those are really expensive and needs to import.
With that said, every professional monitors will not be accurate out of box unless it's tuned using professional calibration tools, despite that each manufacturer has its own calibration tools, methods so if you really want archive accurate colours, it's best to seek for professional calibration every month or buy yourself calibration tools.

U2414H has very good panel, class 1 (according to TFTCentral) response time so FPS gaming is not an issue here.
But the input ports is not for every whom still using VGA for my old machines (oldies, ahem...)
Will definitely looking forward their future panels, they're surely improved lots recently.

I've been following this thread for a couple days and yesterday decided to place the order for U2414H since so many of u bought it and recommended it...
But sadly, when I call Dell Malaysia at lunch time. They told me the offer is over d..
Now the price is RM 1,059 (warranty 3 years)
The lady informed me the promotion no more. Ended 2 - 3 days ago!!

Well, my old C2D board still using VGA only output... doh.gif
My gaming rig and laptop has HDMI which I'm not really concern but... my KVM is also still VGA... sweat.gif
It'll be sure a long time before I change all to DVI or HDMI capable... blush.gif

Thanks for the suggestion!
About those color calibration tools tho, what's the 'go to' brand? Spyder?
*
Regards calibration tools, quite subjective, may have to look at majority and the colour space that you will be working on, if you don't mind little set-back, the entry Spyder should provides you basic calibration for starters.
I think someone here provides the calibration service, need to flip them through... sweat.gif I think it's last thread version, kinda lazy to dig them through, hopefully they see this post and give you informative feedback.

which one better U2312HM or S2440L? intend to hook up my MBP and Xbox 360
*
Are you limit your budget to these 2 models? If you're connecting MBP and XBox360 at the same time, the only option is S2440L, otherwise you may find yourself searching for converter to connects both your laptop and console.

If you're not then try push more for U2414H, which has 2x HDMI ports, suitable for your needs as you won't need to change cables.
U2414H I believe the promo already ended but some reseller may provide better price than Dell Direct. Search for user keyword "teng".

Btw, U2414H really has great review and value for its price, a definite improvement over last generation IPS. icon_rolleyes.gif

Unless you dare to take the risk, there's nothing wrong with purchasing non-warranty products, its all about trust.

*
Resolution on Screen size V.S. Visible pixels distance.
It's to shows that how much distance to distinguish the pixels on a huge screen size and resolutions.
This also shows the benefits of buying a huge screens with high resolutions, such as the 4K. sweat.gif

hi shifu, can suggest what model brand has the cheapest price for 1600x900 resolution monitor? use it as a secondary monitor only.
thanks.
*
Erm, most 20" still has such resolution but rarely can be found in the market due to the common demand for 1080p instead.
I found one on Dell.com.my, easy search, 20" (19.5")

haha i see...then 1920*1080 should fits you nicely since can get 4 less than 1k rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

mine already 6 years using 1920*1200 doh.gif i have 2 jump over 1440p but all choices sold above 1.5k doh.gif
*
Ah, found 1 same taste as me, all the 27" is way over budget, and when they do have promo always not enough dough... >>" (chh....)
Been using Samsung 2333SW (1200p was over 1K last time) and been stuck with it till now, yellowish already since it's CCFL technology. sweat.gif
Not going to upgrade just bit, if want upgrade one shot 1440p (1600p for richie) or 4K (another few more years maybe?).
4K is not going common soon even with those branding rushing and advertising over it, it is just to let the world know of its existence, just like how the 1080p was first introduced into the market (Blu-ray makes the kick-start). Some more I'm still using VGA with some of my PC/laptop, and just recently bought KVM just for them. doh.gif

QUOTE(Shinka @ May 10 2014, 10:13 PM)
hmm I see. for 27 inch monitors, between 1920 x 1080 and 2560 x 1440, is there a big difference for youtube / .avi videos?

as in let say I play youtube videos (1080p) on both of them. Will the 2560 resolution monitor display sufficiently obvious clarity compared to the 1920 x 1080?

and since I'm only using gtx555 graphics card, will running youtube videos cause stuttering/lag?
*
1080p vs 1440p, huge difference, it's the pixel count and video size displayed on screen, for 1080p video will fit full screen nicely on 1080p 27" but on 1440p, borders on all side so you see those things much smaller than usual.
This also depends on how far your eye from the screen, 27" 1080p allows you to sit further without straining your eyes to look for the smaller details, 27" 1440p will be a little difficult, but workspace for this much pixels count is nice... IMO. brows.gif

Youtube video, no, even Intel IGP has no problem doing so. nod.gif

one more thing - I have been searching high and low for this particular model - Samsung S27B950D which costs RM3000, but there seem to be no place that carries it. (I have searched all the malls as well as lowyat plaza)

I then come across a last unit left, but that was a demo set. The condition is perfect, however its been displaying continuous videos/slideshows for dunno how long.

Will there be any issues if I buy a demo set?
*
All about lucks I guess, if they still can give you the full warranty then you can take it (cross-finger), but if they don't probably they can give you a good price for it, since it's like a 2nd hand unit. wink.gif
