i hope it works.... but arent this function only works when your no making used of the hdd (reading file or writing file) for 20min? I was like playing games and serving online and it suddenly freeze for 5-10sec.
*
The HDD parks its heads when it isn't being utilized. Usually so called "green" HDDs does this to "consume" power, that's why you are experiencing the sudden freezing.

Just turn off all your power consumption options, by that I also mean disable hibernating, don't turn off HDD, no auto standby, etc.
You're running a desktop, not a laptop. So, no need for any power savings. It makes no sense as the consumption is too little to be saving you any electric bills.

No, the Intel '8mb' bug happened on the 320 series. A thing of the past, was annoying when it happened though.

*
Pretty much any SSD is perfect for a notebook.
Question is, how deep are your pockets?

Crucial M4 256GB is going for RM590 now, it's a great deal if you ask me.

I must be so out of touch... I thought SSDs are around RM1k or around it... but I'm seeing even a 240G less than this. Not that it's cheap, but it must have been early this year I last checked.

I wonder which is the best brand, Corsair, OCZ, Sandisk, Intel ? If the Cosair Force GT is a real performer, I'd get one.
*
Why get a Corsair Force GT 240GB when its priced at RM759 when a Crucial M4 256GB can be had for RM650?
There is no Intel 330 240GB, but there is for the 520 series and that costs RM780. Not worth it.

According to storm88 on his earlier post, he can get a Samsung 830 256GB at sub RM650, that's a no brainer right there.

In terms of performance, it has been repeated numurous times already. They do not matter under the usage of gaming, day-to-day basis applications (internet and what not) and windows/applications boot time.

The difference between them is so insignificant that anything one would "feel" is simply just a placebo effect.

If you are doing a lot of real-time video encoding, recording or processing thousands (literally, thousands I mean) of RAW photos, then the extra bandwidth comes in play. But otherwise, forget the numbers. Get the one which is of the best value and reliability.

M4 256GB for ~RM580 not counting shipping, that's seriously tempting.

Hmm... if it *is not* Samsung 830...

which one is a better ?

Kingston HyperX SSD or Corsair Force GT?

Already spent $$$ upgrading GPU and sound card, so why not on an SSD... He he.

My hard disk is a super normal 500Gb WD.
*
Honestly, both of them are the same just with a different casing, colors and stickers.
Both still utilizing Sandforce 2281 controller. Benchmark wise, the HyperX is faster overall due to better firmwares from Kingston.

But ouch... mine is a SATA2 and not SATA3 (i7 870 1156 processor). Do these SSDs really use upto 6Gbps bandwidth? Not planning on ditching my mainboard... let my processor 'kaput' as I have OCed it stable at 4GHz...  tongue.gif

SATA3 device on a SATA2 = runs at SATA2 I bet...
*
Sever-grade SSDs uses more than 6Gbps of bandwidth. But for the mainstream market, most tops out at the 500+MB/s mark (unless in RAID0).
Not like it matters much, trust me you wouldn't feel the difference running a SSD on SATA2 or on SATA3.

Unless you are all about benchmarks or plenty of file transfer-related activities (which I don't think you are, just a gamer from what I remember), then no, SATA2 or SATA3 does not matter.

Get the SSD, it's the best upgrade you can have on a computer.

More specifically, both desktop and laptop version comes with 8GB of flash memory.

Not a winner.
It should have been at least 16GB of NAND, not 8GB. Understandable that Seagate is trying to keep the cost down, but NAND has dropped in price enough that 16GB isn't too much of an extra cost.

8GB is simply too little.
I'd still recommend it to people on laptops who doesn't have the luxury of getting a 512GB SSD or easy access to plenty of cloud storage though.

I was in LYP on Wednesday. 120GB very limited. 520 series none.

Now I have headache on getting the best value and performance for 2 units of 240gb SSD.

Force 3 240gb rm 588 but worry out of stock.

2x Intel 335 240GB then?

Well, if you're going for 2x Corsair Force 3, might as well go for the 335 then?

Intel 330/335 > Corsair Force 3, in performance and reliability.
This I can confirm.

Also, if I assume that you're going to use RAID 0 on both the drives... the P45 chipset on your mobo doesn't even have SATA 3 to begin with. Doesn't matter much at this point as you are already bandwidth limited.

If the SSDs are for a new build, then why not just slap on 2x Samsung 840?

Prices between all the mentioned SSDs are in the RM550~RM600 range.

Okay then, I'll go with 2x Intel 335 Series 240GB. Jayacom sells for RM 555 but mention Series 330, could it be an error?

I didn't mention im going to use on my P45, I've plans to build another RIG.

Samsung 840, read the review. Doesnt seem to last as long as Intel MLC
*
May not be an error, because there exists a 240GB for the 330.
Doesn't matter either way as the performance between the 330 and 335 is practically the same, safe from a few anomaly differences.

Those reviews... I'm honestly skeptical about reviews who runs inmense amount of data copying and writing over to a new drive to see its reliability. This is something only a very, very, very small percentage of users actually achieve.

I don't know what you are planning to do with the SSDs, but okay fair enough... if you're concerned with long-term reliability without exploding the bank, stick with the Intel 330/335.

hey guys, want to ask something. I never used an ssd before for my laptop, and thinking of upgrading.

from what I see, plextor m5s is good. what do you guys think of the 240gb version? or getting the 120gb is sufficient enough?
*
Especially for a laptop, the more space = the better.
I think the 256GB version M5s goes for around RM600 right now, not too bad... so if you have the budget, definitely yeah go for it.

How do you shift the torrent to another HDD ?  I am using SSD for OS bootup and running program, all my media files: picture , music , video stores in WD green.  I start up the Utorrent in SSD , but set the saving location in WD green ? Am I doing right ? but it seems after the files being download from Internet , OS will save in a temp folder in SSD , before going to WD green.

Torrent -> SSD -> WD green

This will involve too much read and write that will shorten SSD lifespan right ?

How to make

Torrent -> WD green directly ?
*
Install uTorrent on SSD.
When saving files for download select the path for your WD green drive.

It's that simple. And torrents do not create a temp folder, direct downloads does.

And for the millionth time, stop worrying about reducing SSD lifespan. doh.gif
