So the new Optima Nu engine gives out 170Hp and 201Nm torque as compared to the previous MPI engine which gives out 163Hp and 198 Nm torque. Plus the speed sensative electric steering is another plus. Damn!

Any other changes? I noticed some changes to the steering wheel buttons especially the cruise control.

compare accord 2.0 and k5 2.0 which one is faster?

Added on October 23, 2012, 6:18 pmmy friend said his accord 2.0 powerful than k5 2.0 but i dun really believe cos in the brochures already stated k5 got more PS and torque.

accord 2.0:  156 PS ,  189 torque

k5 2.0  : 165 PS ,  198 torque

how can accord be more powerful
On paper, the K5 is among the most powerful 2.0 normal engine's around. But you need to remember that the Optima is a heavy car. Plus, in terms of power delivery, the Koreans are still slightly behind the Japanese. So some of that Hp and torque is 'lost' in transition. That's why ull feel the K5 being a bit sluggish from dead stop acceleration. But the new Nu engine Optima should be better since it comes with 7Hp & 3Nm torque extra.

I have to admit....the electric steering is definitely a plus point. Easier to handle the car compared to when I test drive the previous version.
Yeah. Cant understand why Naza Kia did not include this in the previous Optima version. Even the 2010 Forte 2.0 has electric steering.

But more reason for Toyota & Honda to be worried once Bermaz launches the new Mazda 6 sometime end January 2013. The 2.0L model tentative pricing about RM 158K. Quite reasonable considering the new tech on board. Another car that will surely eat into the Camry's pie. nod.gif

from what i can say, different people got different thoughts... haha!

anyway K5 is awesome and the only thing that's stopping me now would only be the service & after sales value...

poisoning needed here... lol  tongue.gif
What's wrong with the service? Past 6 months ive made warranty claims on my K5 and i found it to be much easier than Toyota whom i supported for 9 years.

How you guy think of New K5 VS second hand Sonata 2.4 (2010/2011)
Btw that not yet test drive, will try to slot in free time for test drive.. kakaka

Sonata 2.4 not worth buying brand new de, this my own opinion.
Considering this two cars.

Thinking to trade in 2011 Kia forte SX which bought early of this year.
Why are you even considering changing a car? Dont waste your money la. Stick to the Forte and invest the money elsewhere.

Finally managed to test my FC driving at 110kmph for the entire full tank. Based on the 'fill-drive-fill-measure' concept, i covered 1011km on 76L of fuel. 90% of the journey was at a constant 110kmph. This equates to about 7.52L/100km average over 1000+km.

Dear K5ers,

SA called and said will get car in 1 - 2 weeks time. Bright Silver. Can help me decide what minor mod to do first, without voiding any warranty one? Major mod after 10K service, he he ...

My 1st 4 choices are as follows:-

1. Tinting (Security or Normal?)
2. Tom's Stickers to protect against stone chip/scratches
3. Floor Mat (Yuma's or similar quality) for in-car and boot
4. Paint Coating (Sierra Glow?)

In what sequence would you do first?

** Note: At time of posting, FB down (maintenance mode) so can only receive poison there later...

If KL Auto, most basic one about RM1K++, recommend to go for the RM3K++ one for better effect. Some of the members did the whole car (foaming + sound proofing) at between RM5K++ to RM7K++

Good thing about foaming + sound proofing is that you can do it in stages, and you can enjoy the effect stage by stage. But, if you have the budget, can do one shot plus a few sound, light, view and anti-hijack system there as well. Pls refer to FB (http://myk5club.com/) for more poison...
Wah getting a car in Dec? In 1 month time, your car will be in its 2nd year of ownership and worth 12-15K less. You should have just waited for a 2013 manufactured model.

ya.. Things are so quiet here recently. I still waiting painfully for the loan approval of  the buyer of my old car before placing an order. I doubt k5 will have CKD soon? I prefer CBU.... Hope can join the club early December

Yes its a good read but the engine specs need to be revised. The power output for the Nu engine is 170Hp, 201Nm torque. But he's waiting for official docs before he ammends.

Maybe I'm a nub. But I have tested the NU engine (barely) as well as the Theta II engine. Performance wise, I don't really feel any difference. But I did notice that the NU engine version seems to be a bit less 'noisier' when I revved it for a short distance. The old Theta II's roar seems to be more noticeable in the cabin.
The Theta 2 engine on the Optima is loud during a cold start (which is what you normally experience when you test drive). But once the engine is warmed up, its quite quiet. You can barely hear it in the cabin. If you want to test engine noise, do it after a 15 min drive at least.

Wonder how's the turning angle compare to city.. Easy to park?
Although the car is longer but i find i can reverse park it better than my previous Vios due to the reverse camera. The only problem is judging the front clearance as there arent any sensors here. But compared to other D segments out there, i dont really have much problems with parking the K5.

Got my car on Monday and have been driving it since. Dunno how to compare to Theta II since mine is on Nu engine and I upgraded from Honda City.

Here's my few observation:

1. NVH is very good
2. The engine (to me) is super quiet during engine startup and idling
3. The Infinity sound system is fantastic
4. The easy access and memory seat really help a tall guy like me
5. BT pairing for IOS and Android are easy, except it doesn't seem to auto connect when I re-enter the car
6. Am lucky did not encounter weird sound from sun roof, or from the internal cabin
7. The tyre is very noisy on wet road but better on a dry road
8. It is not a performance car so do not expect "pull back" feeling from dead stop pick-up
9. Very stable and reaches 160km/hr easily when cruising on highways
10. BT streaming, using the right type of USB to play MP3, will need some manual reading and trial-n-error

I am doing mostly driving with 50/50 highway/city and my 1st full tank seems to be on target to get about 700km if the meter reading on my car is correct. The past couple of days, due to closing of SMART tunnel, has not help with the FC as I was caught in some pretty bad traffic. Maintaining variable speed of not more than 110km/hr 90% most of the time, so I am quite happy with the FC.
My best FC i achieved recently was an actual range of 1011km on 1 full tank of 76L travelling at 110kmph 90% of the time on highway. And the max ive filled my fuel tank was 80.26L. The 70L mentioned in the brochure is quite far less than what you can actually fill.

Thank you for all the congrats smile.gif

Yes, the car is great! Like CM98 says, if the car comes with a larger size monitor with front & reverse cam, then parking is will be much easier. A couple of times, the front bumper nearly touch the front kerb when I park at public roads. For side parking, if you want to park perfectly, then for me, need to re-park a few times to get the angle right lor...

As for turning angle, cannot compare with City as City has a shorter and narrower body so the turning ratio is better (I feel). Am adjusting my driving style and learning the "behavior" of the new car, so I think I will be able to handle the K5 better with passing time.

I detected something today, as I was caught in a bumper-to-bumper traffic, my aircon, which is set to [Auto], starting spewing out hot air. The setting is with re-circulation mode and I have to on/off or lower the aircon settings to get cold air flowing again.

And also, after I engage the foot brake (but not extremely hard/push all the way back), the car still lurch to the front.

Any bros here encountered this problem before?

Not a major problem for me, but still would like to find out what is the problem lor...

Another 600km to 1,000 service, so better book my service appt earlier and report these couple of issues to the SC  sad.gif
The aircon circulation button sometimes may require a setting to be done. Refer to the K5 Fanpage on Facebook for more info. Or u can ask the SC to set for you. I got mine set as well. In my case, the setting will auto switch to outside air halfway while driving. But now its fine.

Your 2nd issue is not a problem. The front of the car is heavier than the rear. So if ure not on a level surface and u engage the foot brake, the car will move forward a little and then stop. Its normal. U just need to make sure u depress the foot brake fully.

that is test drive car ,its not the latest 2012 model k5. dont worry now all the k5 is come with rear a/c vents. year end buy k5 u get 3year free service worth RM3500 sometime , same money  biggrin.gif
The free service is still not worth compared to the loss in resale value for a 2012 manufactured car.

I wanna share this experience of mine which just happened about 6.45am this morning. I was driving from KL to Ipoh at about 150kmph and suddenly my rear tyre blew out. This wasnt a gradual loss of air. It was a total immediate blowout. My tire was torn 90% along the rim. I was in the midst of overtaking a trailer just before Gopeng (2 lanes) when it happened. I thought i was about to slam into the guardrail but luckily in a split second the Stability Control engaged and i was able to manoeuvre to safety. There was really no space for me to do a counter steer due to the close proximity of the trailer so im really lucky the stability control system engaged in time. This is my first experience with the system and i must say it worked perfectly.

But im really concerned about the Nexen tyre. I didnt go over any pothole and there was no debris on the highway. After i stopped i even walked back about 200m to check while waiting for Plus Ronda to come. They even commented that this particular tyre was very hot and they asked me to get it checked.

Glad you're fine bro. I think it's time to change to Eagle F1 Asy 2 as I find the stock nexen tyre too fragile.
Ive highlighted this issue to Kia CMD this morning. Awaiting feedback. Yes i dont have much confidence in the Nexen. Road grip is ok but if the tyre isnt strong enough then its pointless. But im not sure if its the tyre problem or not as i didnt see any debris on the highway that could have caused this blowout.

But i also feel safer knowing that the Stability Control activated fast enough.
