Looking at the modifier keys at the bottom row of G710, found that it is the same as the QuickFire TK and Corsair K60/K90...
Is it suggesting that they have the same OEM?
*
Quite possible. They may make 6.5x spacebar more popular, lol.

hey guys, sorry, noob question here. Can i get a mechanical keyboard with budget around rm150? What are your recommendations? If mechanical is not possible, what are your other suggestions?
*
Add another RM30-50 and grab a China board then, some of them cost below RM200 shipped.

If you really can't afford or not willing to spend over RM150, better stick with those normal Logitech boards below RM30. It can serve you as well as those "gaming board".

I don't think so. Ducky never made a board with full MX Green b4. And I don't see a reason/hint that they will do so this time.

May be when MX White is mainstream enough, they will pull it out. hmm.gif

Redefining weird layout to lvl 99999!!!

BTW, I wonder how do they achive a slightly bigger than 1x sized backspace in such layout? I thought one row = 15x. And with 14 1x sized keys in the number rows, the remaining should be 1x? Some magic there. rclxub.gif

Added on October 6, 2012, 8:20 pmJudging from the bottom modifier/spacebar row, it should sum up to 15.25x in length. Now thats an achievement for being longer than normal kbs. Ip4 to ip5 theory anyone?

just wana ask all expert here, what you guys think about cherry g80-3800 board?
seems like not much review out there....
*
I write one in GH b4.

It is a normal board, not much special.

Main selling point:
1. PCB mounted board
2. Cherry Branded(though, some rumor said that they actually is OEMed by other OEM...)
3. Modern look with low profile keycaps(incase some ppl not willing to go for mech kb due to the old and tall keys profile, this particular board is aesthetically nearer to modern demand)
4. Light(really it is probably the lightest fullsize mech kb out there, much less than 1kg even with box)

Main dealbreaker of it:
1. Low profile keycaps - quite "painful" to type on the default keycaps. Kind of "sharp" at the edge of top of keycaps.
2. Caps-Lock different position, near to impossible to find replacement CapsLock without a mod or two
3. Not too solidly built(the keyboard can be flexed/twisted when a stronger force being applied)
4. The front right egde of the keyboard somehow have some flexing when flexed. As a result, when you pressing left Ctrl, you will notice that the whole bottom left part of PCB move with it.
5. Bad angle of tilt. Worsen with the lack of rubber feet for the extend feet, easy to move around.
6. 2KRO with no ps/2 support

In short, it is still an acceptable choice, if you insist on a fullsize(non-tkl) mech kb. Just that the keycaps are pretty much must be changed for proper use and type...

I was just thinking of getting 1 of those g80-3800 for office(big big office) use, we think alike zongeva..heheee

Cuz afraid it will get stolen if i use a good mech keyboard.
So found that its a low profile and cheap, so maybe a good choice for office use...
U mention we can still change the keycaps even its low profile?
*
I mean the default keycaps suck to type on...
Low profile might not be everyone's taste, worsen with a small and edgy(sharp) top surface for keycaps. doh.gif

Added on October 6, 2012, 10:38 pmIn other words, a low profile keycaps should had a large and flat surface to made it not edgy.

Cheapest locally available Cherry MX switch fullsize board.

Else, there are some even cheaper or non-cherry MX boards available from Taobao.

usually those key caps made for cherry mx switches should compatible which each another, that is fairly simple. Just take extra precaution when it involves the modifier keys.

for example, if you buy full standard 104key set trying to fit into cherry G80-3800, you'll face a problem where the capslock do not fit. Thanks to Cherry decide to offset the switch position.

beginner's guide for "key cap replacement compatibility check before purchase"

- switch type (Cherry MX? Topre? knock-off?)
- key layout (US ANSI? ISO? BIGASS? proprietary? size of modifiers and spacebar?)
- switch position (spacebar, g80-3800 stupid capslock? older Cherry's Offset CapsLock?)

newbie question: does mech kb stock keycaps can be replaced by 'any' in the market keycaps replacements ? or some mech kb brands only can fit in certain keycaps ?

example: cherry mx 2.0 board replace with those colorful keycaps ?
*
Normally we talk about the profile.

The normal one we saw on most boards out there is DCS profile. Which using a defined shape/slope/gradient but the height of keycaps variate across different brands.

The the nearest row(Ctrl, Alt...) is called R1 height. So do for the row "Shift ZXC...", also use R1 height. It is then followed by R2, R3 and the remaining numbers and functions rows are using R4.

I need help on this Cherry space bar and stabilizer.

user posted image

From this DT wiki, I gather that the space bar above came from one of the following keyboards: G80-1000, G80-1800, G80-3000, G80-2100, G80-2510, or G80-2550.

My questions are:

1. How does that stabilizer fit the space bar? Is there a missing part? (I assure you I did not modify the stabilizer.)
2. What are those two white parts on the two side mounts for? Where are they supposed to attach to? Can they be pulled out?
3. Can this space bar be used on a Filco (whether as is or modified)? My understanding was that Filcos take a space bar that has "6.25 units (118mm wide, 3 mounts, 50mm apart)" (c.f. DT wiki on Cherry space bars). The length alone doesn't seem to fit, let alone the 3 mounts.

Many thanks for your expertise. I have next to zero knowledge about Cherry keyboards.
*
Those white stabilizer fits should be putted vertically. Though, notice that forward and backward also got different. So you may need some try and error to get it done.

Inb4 Cherry style won't have similar problem, LOL...

Owai, after saw Zongeva's post, noticed that the steelwire is different also... Normal steelwire will have a C shaped hook.

Added on October 7, 2012, 2:24 amActually, Cherry boards doesn't come with steelwire stabiliser by default right?

Added on October 7, 2012, 3:41 amA good review to read about. Review of Plum 96 by ququfeijian (quite a known guy in China mech kb). Sorry but it is in Chinese though.
http://www.waishehome.cn/thread-59094-1-1.html

This part made me LOL and curious on what how actually does the spacebar of PLUM look like.

Among them. PLUM/Keycool is consider bang for bucks. They offer more features and accessories at a lower price.

If you want a "clone" of Filco, go for PLU/HPE, they are designed exactlythe same as Filco.

In short, all should be quite solid boards.

yes, the CM's spacebar is smaller and ALT is bigger..
but it's ok, my plan to install these keycaps on Filco tongue.gif
*
As mentioned by Zongeva, that is QuickFire Pro, which can be consider a clone brother of Razer BWU.

CM's mech kbs having different OEM for different models, so better be sure of about them if you care on who is the OEM for your board.

BTW, I can't believe that KBT is using a even taller keycaps than CM Pro. Technically, it is like Filco's height compare to BWU's height, and I always thought BWU having the tallest keys here. Or may be you put it on the wrong row(R1, R2, R3 and R4 at the right rows?) or you haven't fully fit the keycaps in. Normally there will be a little tick or bump when the keycaps fully fitted in.

say about the G700, Retail price at lowyat is about RM270~300 la. which close to USD 99.

the price rm~250+/- is those who buang price dkt online only smile.gif

So the G710+ i think would b much likely around RM450+/- official retail. But who knows when evernthing goes online, LOL end users benefits

and personally i don't think Logitech needs other people to manufacture the keyboard for them. Logitech has their own keyboard fab and all required tech and knowledge to build one. So why should they need to rely on other people like... CM?

just my two cents la blush.gif
*
Judging from the current layout for it. It is hard to convince me that it is having a different OEM than Corsair K60/90.
So as the new CM TK, highly possible to come from same mother as K60/90.
