Paper's too smooth and it's hard to draw the outlines. I think I need to buy a new sketch pad

I tried scanning and editing it with GIMP. Well, I have to say GIMP kinda made my picture a bit too pixelated rather than grainy now. Not very sharp sad.gif

Is photoshop any better?

I think I just opened it on a 1600x900 template, so maybe that's the prob

A little more progress over here but goddamn, I can't get the values right. Somebody sugested that I should avoid drawing outlines. Probably need more photostudies coz light and dark is always my weakness

@ Loto

Have you tried making soft pastel tonal studies? Get some pastel sticks and work fast and loose to capture the form of real-life things. The softness of pastel forces you to work on big shapes instead of the details, so you're more or less pushed into focusing on the light/shadow forms of an object to create its likeness
Nah, I haven't done any of that. But I've done photostudies and I'm more of a pencil guy anyway. I'm interested in doing charcoal, though

Yeah, I know... I know... I smudge a lot. Unintentionally, most of the time.

I'll try to be cleaner next time. But I don't know about the flat part. Is it the armour or the hammer? or... everything?

I know la! T_T

I would've thought that I should make the background a lot darker but it's always a problem of mine to sacrifice detail over contrast. It's a pet peeve

idrawgirls (it's not what you think!) on YouTube helps a whole lot. But he focuses more on realism, so it might be a bit intimidating to draw like he does.

and when you master that, then you can try to change proportions of you characters without it looking horribly mangled or amatuerish. well, that's what I thought.

Well, I admit that the sketch have faded a bit over time. So, I may have to darken it again.

I'm trying to find some good concept art for Dishonored that I want to refer. Any links?
