QUOTE(kaiserwulf @ Aug 13 2013, 09:30 PM)
Good luck staying married for 3 years with Rosmah, fruitie!
A fresh graduate's career potential is molded in his early years... 3 years will snuff the life out of him/her. Looking at salary thread you already know how HR 'values' a staff- BASED ON HIS LAST DRAWN SALARY. If he realizes he/she is in a shithole, get outta there!!!

After 3 years scenario, when he hop to his 2nd company:
If Ah Seng had a bad start-
1. Look Ah Seng the IT guy, we really are offering you alot already, 30 % increment and 15 offdays. You had only RM 1800/mth salary previously and 8 days annual leave. You should be grateful. Ah Seng: "Wtf i was stuck in chinapek company and I listened to fruitie to be loyal for 3 years!"

If Ah Seng had a good start-
2. Wow Ah Seng, we really like your skills. Im afraid I cannot offer more than RM 1000 increment from your previous company. You will be taking home RM 6000/mth but management has promised to review you for a promotion in 1 years time as written in this job offer contract. Ah Seng: "Now we're talking"

doh.gif I typed quite a lot and my laptop just shut down on its own. Now using phone to reply.
laugh.gif Thanks for the nice description. Funny but meaningful. smile.gif
If in shitload, ya I agree with you to get out from it fast.

You mean your salary per monthly is RM 2800 Basic plus RM 800 allowances right ? If RM 2800 is the nett/gross you are getting as a Master student . It seems quite low for a MNC .
*
RM 800 is a per annum allowance and not per month. smile.gif
Yeah, slightly lower than market price.

So.. kinda even lower
*
After 182 days will be normalized to standard tax bracket, so not to worry. smile.gif

Not necessarily.
Join a company which emphasizes on work-life balance. Most of the MNCs are into this nowadays, my company as well. smile.gif
You do know MNCs' salary range is on a higher side compared to local companies right? biggrin.gif

i believed there is company promote work life balance, but the key is how many of them can really practice it? Different industry may have different expectation on working hour. I have been in IT for few years and i would say long hour is sometime inevitableĀ  biggrin.gif

MNC pay higher than local company? maybe yes but not for my caseĀ  brows.gif
*
By looking at your IP, you are based in SG now. smile.gif
Anyway, it is no good to generalize like that lo. At least for my case, we do have good balanced of work and life. Of course, there are times where we cannot avoid but not all the time. Working late is not the key point to earn more. smile.gif

I have no intention to argue. I'm just speaking on behalf of an employer and employee. I can represent both. sweat.gif

Yea agreed, but does the banking industry field increase staff salary based on year or quarter?  hmm.gif

Quarterly? You mean 4 times per year, can I join this company? smile.gif
I doubt so.

Yearly adjustment is normal though.

You do know there are many factors to affect your salary range. Let me just name a few:
1) Your strengths that distinguish between you an others
2) Your current pay
3) Your job
4) Your company
5) Your industry
6) Your experience
7) Your qualification

Those things I mentioned above are not in sequence, so point 7 doesn't mean it is not important.
Plus, you are still young, career advancement is what you should prioritize and not salary though it is important. If not, when you are in 30s, you will suffer and lose out in competition.

I'm 27 this year and I have gone through what you are going through now, I'm still sticking to my current company that I joined since internship as it gives me very wide exposure and I think I'm earning quite good for my age (the amount you "dreamt of"). You (and others) may not agree with me, but I don't believe in frequent job hopping in early working years.

Well, that's just my point of view. smile.gif

Haha, I see.but for your age with my dream salary..it's normal for me, cause I had seen a lot of them are in the salary range.. biggrin.gif
*
We shall see when your time comes but with the current inflation, nothing is impossible. rolleyes.gif
What is worth 6k today is not what it is in 1 year time. rolleyes.gif
That time you will ask for more. What is the limit? Sky is the limit. whistling.gif laugh.gif

Yeah don't get me wrong, I was not saying I'm earning a lot. That's not my point la, to me career advancement is more important. You need to understand, I have not jumped a single company before and every year I get 20-25% increment, which is something I appreciate a lot. Though that was last time, now hardly get that much anymore. cry.gif

FYI, I'm a HR person and HR doesn't earn as much as engineers, sales persons (for e.g.). If comparison is really necessary, it has to be apple to apple, orange to orange.
If you have friends from HR field and if they are still in junior roles, you will know how pathetic the salary is. sad.gif

Lol, I understand for a HR salary..I got 1 friend in IBM HR salary like RM 2.4k only which is 24 years old now, hehe..

Anyway, actually I aim for salary is depends on my age for any jobs? Because this easier to match or meet my goals in futureĀ  smile.gif
*
HR salary only climbs after 3-4th year onwards. smile.gif Can easily go more than 10k as it progresses.

You are still very new to working world, so it is normal for you to feel clueless now.
Just work hard and find your passion. Passion makes things easier. smile.gif

I love my current job, it gives me so much of exposure. smile.gif
This year I'm given with few overseas assignments opportunities and I must admit I learn a lot. smile.gif
Next week I'll be flying to Myanmar for recruitment, after that to Beijing for training and probably to Sydney for on-ground operations support. smile.gif

So, just enjoy and learn from your current job! All the best. smile.gif

Anyway, Mgmt Trainee is a good program as you get to learn a lot.
Although I must say this, 3k for a Mgmt Trainee in banking line is very little. smile.gif
My friend was a mgmt trainee for one of the overseas banks in Malaysia and she was getting more than RM 4k as the start, that was 2 years ago.
Besides during her mgmt training, she was sent to UK and HK for trainings, stayed there for nearly a month every time. smile.gif
But again, be contented with what you have. smile.gif

Wahhh...4k paid management trainee, btw which bank offering that? Anyway, some might have depends on the offer letter. For eg,tie with contract or free.

The best things for HR as my personal opinion, I guess it's recruitment time...kinda fun and enjoy especially during oversea recruitment, free travel.
*
More than 4k actually. Of course I can't share which bank is that. I have two friends who were their management trainee, both doing very well now. smile.gif

I don't usually do recruitment because company doesn't have active recruitment, we don't go out to source for people most of the time, just headhunter or internal transfer. But this time, a bit unique, so we were asked to fly into Yangon to support a mass recruitment.
I'm more on operations side, but my boss proposed me to give a lending hand to the HR business partner group. smile.gif

You just joined less than a month, yet start to think of so many things.
Still fresh to the company, be a sponge and absorb as much as you can.

Guys, i need some answer for my question, i am a fresh graduate in IT field, and few days ago i receive an offer as below:

basic salary 2350 + transport 400

But the problem is i put my expected salary RM2800, somehow i feel like kena tipu..... other company that mentioned to me like RM2700 , rm2900 is only gross but not the basic salary?
*
Whatever you expected doesn't mean the company needs to fulfill, so it is not cheating.
But it is still up to you to accept or not, they can't force you. smile.gif

What is so difficult about it? We know that EPF contribution deducts 11% off your gross, there's SOCSO for RM14.75, and beyond a certain range, you get to use the tangga cukai to calculate PCB. Unless you are earning commission (which nature makes it difficult to calculate the net salary in the first place), knowing the net salary can be done by using simple calculations smile.gif

I know this because I see people's salary 10 times a day smile.gif I don't share it with anyone, but when people ask, which industry they should be in and which job should they take, i can immediately give them suggestions smile.gif
*
smile.gif I see people's salary all the time as well. Used to be part of my job, buy these days I'm more to supervision role. smile.gif
Well, of course what you said is true, and you will need to calculate your annualized tax as well, put in the YTD tax deduction and EPF contribution to ensure accurate tax deduction.
Just saying. smile.gif
In nutshell, what I was trying to say, they always give gross salary figure.

I can always give an estimation amount but most of the time I don't do it unless the employees want from me.

Noted. And I was trying to tell the previous poster about how to ballpark the net income. But yeah, the quoted salary is usually gross salary, least that is the practice in Malaysia.

Thanks for sharing anyway

my previous job, i need to handle design, meeting client, draft drawing, draft bq, quotation pricing for bq, prepare sample for material, project coordination, site supervision, ordering material to site, arranging worker/ sub-con to site, prepare report, site meeting with client or consultant, arranging payment for sub-con, make claim from client.

now i lost track and dont know how much salary will be reasonable for knowing and doing so many. now i only request& demand based on market value from jobstreet.

now judging from your experience how much is my salary reasonable?
