as a lecturer working in UTM, i can tell u for sure about the policies on diploma students in IPTAs. this is first hand information, first hand experience (on my side, that is).

1st, in order to even propose a transfer, the diploma must be accredited by MQA. if it's not, or in the process of getting accredited, there is no chance at all.

2nd, diploma students DO NOT compete with STPM/matrics/a-levels for 1st year intake. diploma intake is usually straight to 2nd year. only those changing courses might have take 1st year subjects, but their status will still show "2nd year".

3rd, credit transfers are subject to relevancy. even if there is a similar sounding subjects in both the diploma and the degree, it might still not be transfered. this is subject to the syllabus and course content.

4th, credit transfers are subject to maximum allowable by the university. even if u have 100% similar subjects, the university will usually allow only up to 50% transfer, sometimes lower.

Hi azarimy thanks for you reply. i don't mind even if i couldn't get credit transfer.but msu diploma education tesl is accredited by mqa and jpa.i checked.i just don't wan to burden my parents..thats why i'm looking forward to join ipta. I need to ask you because your working in a ipta. Usually does ipta take ipts diploma students? Usually what are the requiremtns? I know even utm have degree in tesl education. Can u help to clear me out..? And really a diploma student is not competing against stpm, metric,a-level students? As i heard from a lot of sources, that i won't get a place because i will be competing with stpm and metric..? These people have made me unmotivated, stressed, panic, sad and regret choosing ipts..can u help me in anyways?thanks and looking forward for a positive reply from you sir or madam

well i can tell for a fact that u WONT be competing against the other 1st year intakes.

and for UTM, we dont really care which university u come from as long as it's accredited by MQA. however, there have been several universities that have fallen out of grace with UTM. this is due to some dodgy dealings, abuse of responsibilities/delivery or stuff like that. i dont know if UTM's standing towards MSU or it's TESL diploma, but i do hope it's good for your sake wink.gif.

that aside, the requirements are stated on UTM website, u can refer there.

Oh thanks sir..between if i call utm or other ipta means can i inquire about which ipts that they will accept? Will they inform sir? And sir to enter ipta is it the course should hv mqa and jpa accredititation? Whats the differents with jpa and mqa accreditation sir? Which one is important?
*
I dont know if such information can be reveald publicly. But what u can do is just ask if it's possible transfer credit from xxx university or yyy college.

What matters is MQA accreditation. JPA uses MQA list, so they will follow suite. However, MQA only covers local institutions, while JPA also covers overseas. Bottom line is, JPA's local list should be exactly the same with MQA's, but they also have ovrsea list, MQA doesnt.

MQA maintains the standard. If something is not accredited by MQA, u can easily conclude that it is below standard. JPA on the other is just for sponsorship and government job placement.

Sir is it true that utm/ukm/um/usm/upm were given the autonomy in managing their own student intakes? how does it work sir? can you explain for me? thanks  biggrin.gif
*
yes, it's true. but how does it work? well, literally each university is given a whole list of applicants, and we can choose based on whatever category or criteria that we please. it would also mean if this year we only wanna take 3.75 above, there's nothing a 3.74 could do even if there's 3-4 places still empty.

UPU will not interfere in the selection process. they just manage it.

i see..how the universities given the list of application sir?by upu is it? and further more, it means the university will only set and control the intake grading.. like cgpa of stpm/metric and diploma to enter the course n uni it so sir?? how upu will manage it sir? till now not many understands how upu operates right sir? so the ipts diploma applications are usually managed by the university it self or by upu sir?

for universities with autonomy, this is what will happen:

first of all, prospective students will submit their applications to UPU via online.

UPU will sort the names according to their choices. then the list will be sent to the respective universities. from here on, the university will select their choice of students based on their own criteria. the they will return two lists to UPU: the final list and the backup list.

UPU will then process the list and send out the offers to the finalists. if any of them rejected, there will be an empty slot. if u click the "appeal" button, the computer will look for ur name in the backup list. but if ur name is not in the backup list, u wont get the call even if the backup list have been exhausted.

when sorting ur name, they will sort based on the highest offer. if ur 1st choice rejected u, they will look into ur 2nd choice. if that also rejected u, they will look further down.

this will happen for diploma as well, but i'm not exactly clear how it is run by UPU.

hope this clears things abit.

long before this, all teachers must take a diploma perguruan before teaching. even if they already have a non-teaching degree (professional degrees like civil engineering, accountancy etc), they still need to spend some time to go through teacher training. and these are specially trained at maktab perguruan or specific faculties in a university.

it was controlled by IPTAs as the government wants full control over the quality of the training. IPTSs in the past was notorious for its focus on profits, so the government didnt want any of that.

but there are a few IPTSs that have shown that although they are profit oriented, they are also honourable, prestigious and focused on the quality as well. i believe under this notion the government are now allowing courses that were almost entirely exclusive to IPTAs now to be open to all.

and yes, if u're talking about education (urself or educating others), the minimum should be 3.00cgpa.
