note that A-level and diploma are 2 different qualifications smile.gif . at diploma level, as long as it is MQA accredited, shouldn't be a problem. im not sure about non-MQA accredited courses though.

My brother entered USM Pharmacy with his A-Levels result.

I guess it depends on which uni (Apex unis have the ability to choose students without going through UPU), and whether your friend did well in A-Levels or not...

Well, yeah, perhaps.
And I think part of it is because of the screwed up education system in Malaysia.
I don't get it why the better result student cannot get the course they want when the not-so-good result got the offer.
The Ministry of Higher Education blame it on the koko marks but the koko marks is just 10%! These are all bullshit shakehead.gif

don't be scared. as i told earlier in my replies, diploma students have their fair chance for degree in ipta. plus, you have the advantage to do credit transfer if the syllabus of your diploma is deemed appropriate for this purpose by the ipta.

people can tell many tell-tale stories, happened to a niece la, friend la bla bla bla.. rather than going for this kind of sources which mostly would give unreliable answer, you might as well call the uni itself. the effort is worth the right info that you will get. smile.gif

good luck in your future undertakings and studies. go ahead thumbup.gif

as a lecturer working in UTM, i can tell u for sure about the policies on diploma students in IPTAs. this is first hand information, first hand experience (on my side, that is).

1st, in order to even propose a transfer, the diploma must be accredited by MQA. if it's not, or in the process of getting accredited, there is no chance at all.

2nd, diploma students DO NOT compete with STPM/matrics/a-levels for 1st year intake. diploma intake is usually straight to 2nd year. only those changing courses might have take 1st year subjects, but their status will still show "2nd year".

3rd, credit transfers are subject to relevancy. even if there is a similar sounding subjects in both the diploma and the degree, it might still not be transfered. this is subject to the syllabus and course content.

4th, credit transfers are subject to maximum allowable by the university. even if u have 100% similar subjects, the university will usually allow only up to 50% transfer, sometimes lower.

well i can tell for a fact that u WONT be competing against the other 1st year intakes.

and for UTM, we dont really care which university u come from as long as it's accredited by MQA. however, there have been several universities that have fallen out of grace with UTM. this is due to some dodgy dealings, abuse of responsibilities/delivery or stuff like that. i dont know if UTM's standing towards MSU or it's TESL diploma, but i do hope it's good for your sake wink.gif.

that aside, the requirements are stated on UTM website, u can refer there.

I dont know if such information can be reveald publicly. But what u can do is just ask if it's possible transfer credit from xxx university or yyy college.

What matters is MQA accreditation. JPA uses MQA list, so they will follow suite. However, MQA only covers local institutions, while JPA also covers overseas. Bottom line is, JPA's local list should be exactly the same with MQA's, but they also have ovrsea list, MQA doesnt.

MQA maintains the standard. If something is not accredited by MQA, u can easily conclude that it is below standard. JPA on the other is just for sponsorship and government job placement.
