What about Signature Kitchen?

I bought a new house and recently I was doing renovation which included installation of kitchen cabinets. I took my time to search around and finally to go with Signature Kitchen. Though they are a lot more expensive than some of the other local makes, I went with them since I guess they are one of the more popular around.

Since making the booking a few months ago, the kitchen is now almost complete and looking good.

Since today, I want to share my experience with Signature Kitchen when it comes to their installation.

1st visit – The contractors came to install the cabinets, drawers and accessories. They came about 10:00AM and finished about 5:00PM. Later I found out that a drawer handle, was missing, a swivel basket is missing and a glass panel in the cabinet is missing.
Effort from me: 1 day leave and drove 100km to my new house and back. All in all, it was a very productive day.

2nd visit – The next contractor came to measure the Counter Top.
Effort from me: Took time off from work and drove 100Km. Waited for the contractor for 1 hour. The measuring took only about half hour.

3rd visit – Another contractor called me to say that they are coming to collect the garbish from the 1st contractor.
Effort from me: Took time off from work. Drove 100Km. Garbage collection took about 10 minutes.

4th visit – Counter Top contractor came to install the granite.
Effort from me: Tool 1 day leave. Drove 100Km. Installation took about 3 hours.

5th visit – Next contractor came to measure the Glass Panel for the wall. That took about half and hour but I had to wait 1 hour for him because he was late.
Effort from me: This happened on a Saturday so I need not take leave. Drove 100Km.

At this point I started to beg Signature Kitchen to please organize the contractors in as little visits as possible.

6th visit (today) – Glass Panel contractor was suppose to come at 10AM to install the glass panel. When I arrive and called them, they said the appointment is at 1PM. I call Signature Kitchen and they say they cannot do anything. A plumber was also supposed to come to install the sink and piping but did not show up.
Effort from me: Since it was a Saturday, no need to take leave. I drove 200Km and 5 hours spent waiting. The installation only took 1 hour.

So far it has cost me over priced amount of money + 700 kilometers + 6 visits. They still need to install the missing parts from the 1st contractor and also the plumbing which did not show up today.

I do not know how many more visits and how many more kilometers it will cost me before the damn installation is completed.

Your mistake for not lurking around here before deciding. If you have read what other forumers have written, you would not have gone to them.

Why not scout around for independent contractor, those recommended by friends, family. Since SK has bad reviews, why take the risk?

I will check with other contractor, since I live at Kemaman, very limited choice of contractor.

if this is the new house,
you can give them the key so you can do your work.

our working style is,
if new house, we use our lock for door, duplicate key for you,
after finish, we take back the lock,

or you use ur lock, we duplicate key ourself,
after finish, give you back all the key.

it depend on trust. but as from your case,
I can see that SK did't responsible for the subcon late or other reason.
they should be the one who communicate with the worker..

Renovation time is always frequent in and out, can't escape from it. I use digital lock and numbered pad lock. After done change the pin and numbers.

Same happen to my friend that I help managed the office renovation. After done change locks our reset the pin.

Yes, travel in and out are normal during renovation.
Unless you are comfortable to let your supplier to do it as their wish... without your monitoring.

I have engaged with SK during SK big fair in Kota Damansara end up in SK, Mid Valley because the one who serve me is from Mid Valley (MV).

Most people said I should ask for different SK branch for quotation but I'm too late paid deposit hazzily.

My experience is ID Design SDN BHD is also using SK quoted costfully. Rejected them totally.

Time goes on. At last my kitchen is going to install this weekend. Hopefully everything is OK to me. Hopefully for the price i paid worth the quality they said.
