how to fireup the fastboot cmd @@?

open your pc device manager, make sure driver correctly installed first, else whatever command type in cmd won't communicate with phone.

All NEW users strongly advised just use the GNex toolkit - it is freaking simple and is all menu guided ; just select and click only

I also have GPS problems yesterday and today.  Coincidence?  Normally lock <15 seconds in the car.  But now cannot lock at all.

Yes, +9999 for that toolkit. Sooo simple that the user only requirement is: "Know how to read English."

Yes, of course we old folks can use whatever that we want. For newbies, using Toolkit is much easier to teach than typing adb, almost Zero problem if they read properly.

Any ICS rom is fine, not necessary stock

Why do you want to touch/change kernel if you are such anew user ?? Experienced the default kernel first
Kernel changes will NOT give you massive performance or battery improvements. Any improvements is only marginal
