For other vw model u will have a hold button right? For golf r there is no button, but just put ur car on D mode it will not roll back.
*
Passat lah. Auto Hold is useful on traffic lights as the car will not glide, but it didnt help when the car is stopped uphill, the passat still rolls back..

Hill assist is used for going up hill, just step on the brake till max & release it. Then u step on the brake again, u'll notice the brake paddle cannot be press any further. This mean the hill assist is activated.

This hill assist only can be use when going up hill, cannot on going downhill.

Auto Hold must be on and the gear should be in 'D' I presume?

then got car behind?

It rolled like a normal auto car. Still dont get it how to use the hill hold function. We had to just continue driving la with the message on the MFD.. after getting out of the parking, stopped the car for about a minute, continue driving and the warning dissapeared

what car?
i assume a GTI...

first, check if your gearbox oil is under-filled...
when it is under filled and u are in such a steep parking like lowyat, the oil might not be enough to bath all the components.. gravity maaa..
and u will get overheat warning...
there is cases of GTI gearboxes being under filled from factory...

auto hold... lol
when u come to a complete stop on a slope, the hill hold assist will kicks in after a while...
to know if your hill hold function has kicked in or not, you just need to feel your brake pedal.

if your brake pedal hardened suddenly, thats the sign that the hill hold assist has kicked in...
once u remove your leg from the brake pedal completely, u got about 1 sec to hit the gas before u feel a roll back...
*
its a Passat, ok, i've never popped the hood of the car yet, gearbox oil is which part yeah? usually the auto hold works without touching the brakes, I think that is why the car rolled backwards... so need to press the brake to confirm it has kicked in la before pressing the accelerator I guess..

Passat is using 7 Speed DGS Dry Gearbox. The overheat is not caused by not enough DGS oil, but the clutch overheat. Many VW which using 7 Speed Dry gearbox had encounter this problem. The gearbox will overheat when u going up hill at very slow speed (less than 10 km/h). When u got this overheat message, you either need to drive faster or stop your car at road side to let the gearbox cool down.

Don't worry, your car won't explode... Just drive faster will do...
*
Ok.. but if uphill, traffic jam, how to drive faster or even stop..?

Another thing is, the engine sounds rougher now when the car is started (cold start). Dont know if that has anything to do with the message earlier on.

Fuel consumption, while otw to seremban just now, distance to empty showed 500km before engine is turned off. Later, it only showed 450km.. Drive around town at moderate speed (no jam) also the DTE keep decreasing quickly..

Got me thinking, if the car's gearbox cannot stand the traffic jam when the car is going uphill, what to do?

errr.... drive like how u would a manual....

ppl need to know DSG is not the old school traditional torque converter gearbox like the others (k5, camry, proton etc)
this is basically a manual gearbox with the difference is that a mechanical clutch is changing the gears for u (instead of your left food)...

if u let a DSG box creep by itself, it is like how u would move a manual car forward but without disengaging the clutch fully...

so the result of this will be
- if pure manual, u get burnt/worn out clutch
- if DSG, u kill your clutch component/MU

simple enough ?
*
Yes, but our DSG dont have clutch that we can control, so what is the proper technique when dealing with traffic jam while being on a hill?

Use "S" or "M" mode during traffic jam

Should autohold be turned on during traffic jam on hills? I think thats the one causing stress to the gearbox

I have the same problem with my VW Passat 1.8 TSI (CKD). I sent it to service centre and they fixed it for me.

Which SC? Did yours come from the roof near the rear windshield?

Also now I can hear the same squeak sound that is usually on the driver door on the rear left passenger door..

Use fuelly.com, for me, if u fill up more than 60litre, but your distance travelled is less than 600km, then I conclude that the FC is high la
