hi, didn't know there's a gardening club in lowyat forum. great! gonna follow this tered. i suck at raising roses, many failed attempts. so i raise the kind i can use for cooking or can bear fruits. i have a few in my yard: stevia, lemongrass, aloe vera, chinese chives, betel, turmeric, harbanero chili, chinese violet, pandan, lemon basil, cili padi, limau kasturi, bunga raya, belimbing buluh, mint, rambutan jarum emas, kedondong, semambu, mulberry, kari, henna, asian pigeonwings, passion fruit.
planning to add mango and bergamot.
hope to learn from sifus here.
first question wanna ask, how much water does chili plant need? a lot? frequent watering? once a day only?

QUOTE(badigol @ Aug 6 2017, 11:54 AM) QUOTE(badigol @ Aug 6 2017, 12:01 PM) I watered only once every 3 days when my pepper plants were young. Pepper plants soil should be dry and can withstand dry soil. When they grown bigger, I water once every day. The correct mixture of soil is very important too. Cannot be 100% compost soil because compost soils holds water. thanks. i guess i've been watering it too much. can overwatering cause stress too, then lead to curling? i didn't find signs of pests. Mayb once it start to fruit I will trim. i don't trim mine as well. i asked that question because i see yours looks healthy and leafy. i read somewhere before, a fella suggested to trim so new shoots would grow. is that true?

QUOTE(zhongyuan @ Aug 21 2017, 02:23 PM) Yep. Mealy bugs. Let me try. Have to turn the back-side of leaves and spray directly? What's the main reason for mealy bugs? contact type pesticide must be applied directly on infected areas.

QUOTE(audy @ Oct 2 2017, 02:05 PM) I grew tomatoes before too. Took a while to bear fruits but when they did, it was so satisfactory when I was able to enjoy my harvest although not that many fruits The mealy bugs then started coming and I couldn't get rid of them despite all the organic pest sprays. Eventually I got rid of the plants as I noticed that my other nearby plants also got infected with mealy bugs. i haven't had luck with organic pesticide too anyway, how long does it take for the seeds to germinate?

QUOTE(craftsnknots @ Oct 6 2017, 02:02 PM) How often do I need to water mint? i water mine on alternate days. if it rains and the soil is wet, i skip. QUOTE(craftsnknots @ Oct 6 2017, 02:02 PM) I also have some cuttings submerged in water for it to root so that I can pot them along my sliding door. But my issue is that I'm not sure how much space to give the cuttings in a planter box. u can plant the cuttings however close or apart u want. mint is a creeper plant so they'll be everywhere.

QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 14 2017, 04:21 PM) A different situation for me pulak. My mint seems to be dying, even though I water it once a day. I placed it in a pot, and on a shaded area of my kitchen. Grr this is getting annoying, and I am beginning to think that I am not meant to be a gardener! even taking care of mint (which is technically a weed) also cannot, hhaha. Any suggestions? is the soil very wet? mint only needs moist soil, not too wet.

QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 15 2017, 03:01 PM) It couldn't be that, as I water it only once a day, and didn't flood the soil. Could it be the location, then? to confirm, mint thrives in shaded / unshaded area? not sure. i put mine outdoor. receives full direct noon sun.
