Sony refusing hardware repairs on handsets with unlocked bootloaders

http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/07/25/sony-...medium=facebook

A number of users are reporting that Sony Mobile is refusing to repair handsets with hardware issues such as the yellow-tint display problem because their bootloader has been unlocked. Some customers who have sent in their handset to Sony have had them returned without repair due to the “illegal unlock” of their mobile. Whilst this is not the case in all regions, it does at least seem to affect those sending handsets to UK and Dutch Sony repair centres.

QUOTE(GHOSTVIC @ Jul 26 2012, 03:32 AM)
Guys need some clarifications, appreciate if any sifus could help me...

Currently im using DIGI just voice plan..
Now i planned to get new phone at CELCOM, Sony Xperia S, ofcourse with data + voice plan...
i have checked at CELCOM website and not clear about certain things, since first time planning for mobil internet...
For Sony Xperia S , 2 plans as below...

1) EXEC plan they has 88/108/250...which already include (voice plan + mobil internet)
Mobile internet plan the speed up to 3.6mbps , regardless volume 1GB/3GB/5GB as per their website..

2) DATA + VOICE PPU plan they has 48/68/98  (celcom broadband + voice)

Celcom broadband plan the speed varies based on the volume, even about that info i got to know from samsung tab package.. for sony they never mentioned the speed, i dont  know why...

http://www.celcom.com.my/smartphones/tablets.php#tablet1

48 - up to 700kbps    1.5GB
68 - up to 1.5mbps    4GB
98 - up to 3.6mbps...  6GB

So i confused, why the mobil internet the speed standard and celcom broadband varies... Talking about internet usage in mobile, is via 3G right.. so mobile internet make sense..

How the celcom broadband connection will be linked to handphone ?
personally i feel that (DATA+VOICE PPU) - RM98 6GB plan is worth...
but i just dont know how it works...
[attachmentid=2966583]
*
1) EXEC plan is more to voice
2) DATA + VOICE PPU is more to internet

they can control the speed in their system based on your subscription.

1. Erm. well, I use my friend's SIII to play Blood and Glory compared to mine. The gameplay on SIII is a lot smoother due to being quad-core too. The game on Xperia S will start ok then later maybe of the heat, the games start to lagg

2. The SIII loses at the camera to Xperia S. In class when we snap Lecturer's answer on the whiteboard, Xperia S zoom is a lot more clearer than SIII.

3. Other than the obvious difference in screen size which is 0.5'' difference. The colour on Xperia S is nicer =D.

4. On the accessories side. SIII has more variety compared to Xperia S.

This is just my opinion though =). Hope it helps ya

Agree all above... and yes... I have XPS and SIII now... icon_idea.gif

XPS and XPU CPU different...  look like a bugs.

[attachmentid=2945966]

Just want to update on what I have mention before.

When I use some software to monitor the XPS CPU, it's show that only one (CPU0) is active. I have test that software on SIII too and get the same results. I guess that software have a bugs or not updated/compatible will all latest CPU.

Now I use Micro CPU monitor and enable display all CPU cores. XPS show 2 CPU line active and can see the cpu usage for both and same results also for SIII as I can see 4 lines active. thumbup.gif

After use SIII for 4 - 5 days, I still feel that XPS design is much more better than SIII. Screen, button placement and overall design, XPS still win. In term of performance, for sure SIII beat XPS.

XPS have more natural color. SIII to saturated and overkill even screen mode set to Normal. If change to Dynamic, even worst. Change to Natural, the color wash out.

SIII have no inlet for strap doh.gif , stupid engineering from Samsung.

My friend who have us old galaxy S said, Samsung should hired a new engineer for the interface. Touchwiz is lousy.

Anyone?

How's the video performance on it? PPI is lower than XPS right? Any difference?
*
LCD... SIII sure lose to XPS... SIII full brightness cannot even beat half brightness in XPS... XPS really good in direct sunlight.

Full HD video no different... both use hardware rendering....

Wow so unlocking the bootloader uninstalls ALL apps on the phone?!! shocking.gif I was considering buying this but with knowing this now, no way shakehead.gif also warranty is void if i use the OFFICIAL unlocking tool? mega_shok.gif sony's really trying its best to "support" it's fans/developer community.
*
Sony fan like me can use sony phone without needed to unlock the bootloader.

QUOTE(jloi @ Aug 12 2012, 08:31 AM)
whichever brand u use as long as u root and unlocked the bootloader warranty will void. Dont blame Sony.

says who? htc, motorola and others release their unlocked bootloaders and warranties aren't voided. warranties are voided only when u root the phone which is different from unlocking the bootloader. more so they dont uninstall existing apps when u unlock the bootloader.
*
So I guess you need to buy htc or motorola BUT....

you may need to read this 1st

http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/07/18/unlock-...anty-confirmed/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730575

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_...ll_Update_Guide
http://developer.motorola.com/products/bootloader/legal/

apparently... not me saying that...

and I only say 'Sony fan like me can use sony phone without needed to unlock the bootloader.'

Is not important to unlock the bootloader to make the phone work perfectly.

GOT IT... doh.gif

ADD-ON (from motorola)

QUOTE
What happened to my DRM-protected content after unlocking?

Content that requires Digital Rights Management (DRM) will not be available if the device is unlocked. This content is only enabled when the bootloader is in a locked state and when the device is running the original software as shipped by Motorola. When the device is re-locked and running the original software image, these capabilities will become available again.
