The warranty period for my XPS is ending soon in March, now I'm thinking of rooting it but I have a newbie question (too newbie that Prof Google can't help me much tongue.gif ):
1. It seems that rooting will require to wipe phone memory, and I was thinking to do a factory reset once I get the official Jelly Bean update. So if I root the device now and factory reset after Jelly Bean update, will I lose the root status?

yes, because root access only happen on exploit (bug) of certain firmware.
upgrade jelly bean means u have to find another exploit to gain root access

Thanks. biggrin.gif
Then I think l'll wait until Jelly Bean update. Hopefully Sony will give us those cool and nice features included in T, V, or even Z.

If you are not on firmware .55, you can just root using bin4ry tool. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
I haven't done it myself but from what I read, you don't lose your current data. So you can root, flash CWM, make a nandroid (or whatever it's called for Sony devices), and off to custom ROM!

I'm on .55 firmware already tongue.gif
From the sneak preview, the official JB update looks promising, even it's 4.1

Sony simply screwed us XPS users, the ex-flagship get jb even later than its little brother XPP... if I remember correctly XPS is among the last few models to get jb. Though, better than XPU.

Recently I bought my wife a Galaxy Nexus (was gonna to buy XPP but get the AP GNex at the end), and updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I found that whenever GNex screen off the phone will be in 'sleep' i.e. the battery usage page will show screen off and sleep as the same pattern. My XPS on the other hand, is almost awake all the time, be the screen on or off. Wondering what bloatware is hogging the battery...

maybe a little off topic for a while, just wanna ask,a friend of mine had offered me his xperia s,second hand of course, for about RM800,with no warranty left,is it worth it?sorry for the noob question, just wanna to ask for some opinion  tongue.gif

You can get a new Xperia S with full warranty at about RM1000, so I'd say RM800 for 2nd hand without warranty not worth it.
