Ive narrowed down my choice of laptops/ultrabooks and here im considering :

Asus K46CM, Lenovo S400 , Dell Inspiron 14R SE

1. Prefered brand : Anything besides Acer
2. Budger : RM2200
3. Usage : Office, HD movies (Blu-ray), Software Simulation since im Engineering Student.
4. Prefered screen size : 14'" / 15"

Is the 4 Cell battery common for ultrabooks ? Does the battery last compare to 6 cell battery on a notebook ?
Also among the 3 models i considered above, which one u prefer ?

It would be great if any sifu here reply me. Thanks
*
The K46cm and the S400 are ultrabooks, whereas the 14R SE is a normal notebook...
Performance-wise, the 14R SE would definitely be better nod.gif

4-cells is quite little, not really enough to power a 14" notebook unfortunately sad.gif

I've come to the realization that I need a smaller laptop over a powerful laptop, so I'm asking for advice once more.

1. Prefered brand : Anything
2. Budget : RM6000 (give or take)
3. Usage : Adobe Creative suite, movies, light gaming while I'm traveling
4. Prefered screen size : 13" to 15"

I'm after something in the ultrabook class of laptops preferably - something light and easy to carry. I would prefer at least 8gb of ram, latest generation i5+, an SSD (128gb min), and a dedicated graphics card (instead of shared - I will be doing a lot of photoshop work). I know thats a big ask for a small laptop, but I'm hoping there's something on the market that will match my needs. What I don't need is an optical drive, although if it comes with one, thats a plus.

I had been thinking the same thing, but my wife doesn't like macs (she would be using it at home when I'm not traveling). I should have said before, sorry. While I can just stick bootcamp on, its very inefficient.

Ops, sorry din't see your 2nd post laugh.gif
But the thing is there really isn't any other options, at least not light weight ones...

Owh,  in that case means 14r se is a better buy?  And is it possible to upgrade RAM with an ultrabook?  Feel that 2gb of RAM is little .

I'm in the dilemma on which model to choose among the 3 mentioned above.  Lol.
*
As mentioned previously, it all depends on what you want...
14R SE is the better choice if you want CPU (graphic rendering, analyses etc.) and GPU (gaming, 3D designing etc.) performance nod.gif

Some people prefer portability over performance, while others vice versa..
Most ultrabook have soldered RAMs I think hmm.gif

Tq for the help, right now my dad also consider to buy a new netbook. anyone can recommended new netbook or notebook. doesnt matter actually as it should be light and cheap :0

1. Preferred Brand  any
2. Budget less than 1k if possible
3. Usage - internet browsing, word
4. Preferred light and cheap.

Don't mean to question your requirements, but usually netbooks (10.1" in size) will be too small for older people to see and use properly... perhaps you would want to go for those with larger size i.e. 14"?
Anyway, here:

Your point is correct. My dad always complain cant see properly. But because of the portability and cheap, he opted for the netbook. That y i'm asking wheter is there any laptop available that have the price range of netbook but bigfer screen size. I wanted to buy him a second hand  larger screen laptop. But he doesnt trust second hand item. Anyway i think i'll go for the inspiron. Just a question The inspiron proc is it better than atom? Sorry i on mobile. To hassle to google proc benchlist.. smile.gif

well, you could always opt for a tablet instead if your dad is keen on learning how to use touchscreen nod.gif
The processor in the Inspiron is much better than that of the Atom brows.gif

proc, gpu same right?windows same too or not?
the only difference i can see here is the HDD capacity and speed.
about the design, which one more slim?more professional look?
seriously dont know which one to buy. hmm.gif

The Inspiron is better in almost every way if you are looking at the specifcations nod.gif
The Windows on the Lenovo is W7 Home Basic instead of Home Premium as in the 14R SE nod.gif
The GPU is faster in the Dell as well

As for the design, its all down to personal preferences, but the Lenovo should look slimmer... personally I would prefer the Lenovo's design laugh.gif

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. However, I need some clarification regarding the Dell 14z Microsoft® Office trial [Included in Price]. For the price of 2,099 it does not include the full version of Microsoft office right? Do any of these model come with the full version of Microsoft office or do I need to add another RM400-500 for the original Microsoft office?
*
Nope, they only come with trial versions, or perhaps restricted versions (Word and Powerpoint only iinm) of Microsoft Windows... You'll have to get your own full copy unfortunately sad.gif
